Remaster Kippevel VARA - Television 1989 Interview with Lisa Gerrard And Brendan Perry, recorded at the concert of November 28th, 1988 at Vredenburg, Utrecht.
I heard Alion in the cafe. Had to ask the manager what it was because it was his CD. Then I went to Holland and someone made me a cassette, and is they gave it to me, they said I think you would like this. It's your style. Twenty-five years later I'm still listening to them.
Amazing! Thanks for posting!!! For me, I met a sweet girl in the mall so many years ago. She introduced herself to me as we both had on Cure shirts. She was a few years older and she introduced me to so many other bands. We used to hang out every few weeks and we would write letters to each other. That was the early 90s. She tragically died in a car accident a few years after I met her. I am always grateful to her and have since, never met anyone like her. She was such a kind soul. Thank you, Danielle. You’ve done more for me than you know.
Le Peejon kind of shocking since I last saw her in NYC. Was anticipating show in April at Radio City Music Hall but virus cancelled and postponed until April 2021. Any time you can see them it is a treat.
I'll never forget when I first listened to "In power we entrust the love advocated"...the deep feelings almost have been supernatural...as if the whole life is captured in one song...Dead Can Dance really by far surpasses anything dealing with the true meaning of life...love and understanding...
I was 15 years old, when i listened for the first time, my eyes inmediatly were wet and i felt shivers, it was poetic they moved my soul and still they do it . They came from other time, other planet.
I realize I am first one in 3 years but I am still feeling like butter every time Miss Gerrard opens her mouth and plays a instrument. A true angel with the voice of heaven she is.
I recorded that interview on my philips cassette player. Press play and record simultaneously. In awe with that unearthly sound, and forever since. I believe it was my musical awakening. I was thirteen years old.
For my 44 years old I've listened to hundred(s) of bands . Some were perfect, some - talented, etc. But I have not found any band better than DCD that I first heard in my youth. In DCD the music becomes celestial, the essence unreachable for our minds. For sensitive people like me it's even not safe to get deeply into this music so as not to go crazy.
Come ON….maybe you don’t go deep cuz you can’t…..Christ can’t you see you’re playing it safe? And trying to me more different than you are. You’re human you ain’t anymore special than anyone else. So what if you go crazy that’s the ONLY WAY TO EVOLVE SPIRITUALLY……period…..but sure…..keep playing life safe. Might die or go crazy. Oh no…..
Love it when Lisa looks at the interviewer quizically and asks him with zero condescension, "Do you understand?" as she tries to explain the unexplainable which is the very quintessence of DCD music. 'It's very difficult to understand the nature of music and how it affects your influences and feelings," as Brendan continues on in that excellent insightful interview.
@@genustinca5565 Come on man. Calling Lisa Gerrard a hipster gives a very bad name to hipsters everywhere. :) She was, and is, anything BUT a hipster. Lives on another planet called LOVE and comes down occasionally with Brendan to perform gigs for us mere mortals. Ha ha!

Great vintage concert footage..... must've back before they even began to tap into what they produced together. With each album you land in an entirely different plane of their reality.
Absolutely love their music and Brendan's solo albums bit...damn they're somber when interviewed! Lisa did smile near the end of the video but it could have been gas.
Brings tears to my eyes of a pure time when I first heard DCD back in the 80s and seeing them perform for the first time in 1990, hanging out with them in 2013, and so forth. I sincerely love them.
Lisa Gerrard's voice has gotten deeper over the years, which makes it sound even stronger, if that's possible. It is also her vocals, in the beginning song, main theme song of the movie Gladiator.
Dead can dance is probably my biggest inspiration and idea generator for the fictional stories I make lmao. Absolutely enchanting, haunting, and so full of life. Every song I’ve listened from them has a different story, a deeper meaning. I’ve made many artworks to their music, because music is my inspiration. Thank you DCD 💕
I feel the same way! Just haven’t written anything down or made any art. It’s very visually stimulating for music and I love it. I also get it with Enigma too both great
My favourite bit is 10:03-10:13 the interviewer asks "what about converting your music into top 40 type music". Lisa's body language is just so wonderful - not a word could be said, not a note could be sung that more clearly communicates the absurdity of the question. Ohhh I love it LOLOLOL
They definitely both have the characteristics of monarchs. As the simplest example, please refer to the caricature King and Queen in your standard deck of cards.
I also saw DCD on this tour in England (Birmingham August 1987) in a medium sized venue , and stood a few feet away from Lisa .One of the most magical evenings and gigs of my life. I also got to speak to Lisa after the gig , and she was really nice . I think the musical peak of this great band was 1985/1990 with coruscating albums like Spleen and Ideal , Within the realm of a dying sun and Aion.
Vele jaren geleden een concert van DCD bijgewoond in Carré. Na een paar nummers zijn ze gestopt omdat Lisa niet goed werd... Jammer, ik had me er zo op verheugd!
What's the interviewer's name? I remember him interviewing Chris Cornell after Soundgarden's set at Pinkpop, when he queried, 'It's so loud all over, it's Constantly loud-' and Chris replied, 'I know, can you believe it?' Priceless.
Also, judging by the 4AD book and the Mojo interview, Brendan and Lisa shouldn't logically have been a couple for as long as they were. By the time they came to the UK, their relationship had become one long conversation-with-the-flying-plates.
A student 20 years ago, placed a cassette of Dead can dance on my desk and simply stated "this is something you would like ". Thank you Scott....
I heard Alion in the cafe. Had to ask the manager what it was because it was his CD. Then I went to Holland and someone made me a cassette, and is they gave it to me, they said I think you would like this. It's your style. Twenty-five years later I'm still listening to them.
It was an art teacher for me. Such a formative period for music.

I realise how lucky I am to have seen them live in the early 90s. Just so beautifully etheric.. like falling in love
Lisa Gerrard and Brendan Ferry have the most fantastic and haunting voices and are true treasures in the music world.
It's Perry, not Ferry - although their songs invoke the metaphysical realms of fairies... 😉
Brilliant.
But so, so pretentious.
And put Enya in there.those 3 are the triangle of bermuda.
8:25 ... an interview of few decades ago, and then social media have certainly accelerated the accomplishment of this process
young lisa is the most beautiful human being i've ever seen.
You must hang around ugly people
Unfortunately Lisa has gotten quite obese. That us kind of sad to compare her today to 1988.
@@MrGlenspace Seems kind of sudden so I wonder if it's medical due to medication.

That is PRECISELY how I felt when I first heard them on the Lonely Is An Eyesore album.

I had the chance to see them live recently and they sound every bit as good as they did 30 years ago!!
Truly a timeless, magical band in every sense.
I love with all my heart this band❤️

Habib Koite comes close from another genre.
Same! It can be beyond the minds reach sometimes. Yes, their music is that powerful 🙏🏽
Fascinating....I loved it when she talked about emotions. There is a deep dense of joy within her.....

HOW DID I NOT KNOW ABOUT THIS BAND UNTIL THE 2020's???? I went to soooo many gothic nightclubs in the way back time machine!!!
Did you ever see the movie Gladiator? Lisa Gerrard did a lot on that soundtrack
Lisa Gerrard's voice has gotten deeper over the years, which makes it sound even stronger, if that's possible. It is also her vocals, in the beginning song, main theme song of the movie Gladiator.
The beginning and end of Gladiator and also throughout.
I disagree - sometime in the late '00s her pitch control deteriorated (horribly).
Transcendent Artist. Very, very high.
This is great. Being able to experience their music is a gift.
I wish I had this full version of Cantara. It's unique to any other version i've heard.
I was there :-)
I was there too... and wasn't it magical ?!
Wow, the meeting between those two was decided by the cosmic Providence, i'm sure of it.

Interesting how different Brendan’s speaking voice is to his deep, resonant singing voice.

Wow.. Some music from Spleen and Ideal live, and in good quality. Never thought I'd find it. That record still moves me and has much to say.
I regret to inform you that this video contains not a slingle song from that record performed live.
Maybe you mistake it for any other record but "Spleen and Ideal"?

She never made any secret of it! She talked extensively of their influence on what was to become the Serpents egg album.

We create all kinds of narratives about life and about ourselves. Does that make them true?
The good old Thomas theorem goes that what's defined as real is real in its consequences.
Not necessarily, but it makes them meaningful.
