Very well said. It's very similar to what I do, but like you said, we all have our own aiming methods. One important point that can be helpful is once your locked and ready to fire, the objective is simply to make sure the cue ball goes to your intended target aim point with a nice stroke. Doesn't matter what happens to the object ball after that. For me, it's a success if I delivered a nice stroke and the cue ball went exactly where I wanted it to go. At that point, if I miss it's simply because I mis-judged my aiming point and that doesn't bother me.
So much can be learned by 100% focus on that aim point. If you miss it and make the ball you were still wrong. If you don’t pay attention to it you have no valid information to fine tune for greater success.
