Mozart named the work "Jeunehomme" after a young pianist he had fallen in love with. She must have been a virtuoso, for on this occasion he was able to combine his talent as a pianist with his talent as a composer. The score, which was finally premiered by Mozart in Munich on October 4, 1777, is distinguished as much by its technical demands as by its formal originality. At the time, it was fashionable to write in a concerto form known as "galante", intended for the public of the Viennese "academies". For Mozart, it represented another way of earning a living, after a period in which he had composed in the service of great aristocrats. But the young composer, as much a suitor as he was, did not want to adopt the conventional form. Here, Mozart no longer seeks to please the public. He abandons the gallant, wise and measured language, and goes well beyond the twenty minutes of the traditional concerto. So much so that the Parisian publisher Sieber prevented the publication of the Ninth, on the grounds of its insufficient commercial potential. The "Jeunehomme" Concerto surpasses all known frameworks of the time. It is the first example of a concerto in which soloist and orchestra engage in a continuous dialogue of this kind, and foreshadows the Quintet K 452 and the Quartet K 478, both with piano. Unusually for this genre, the piano enters from the outset, without orchestral introduction. It is not characterized by a theme of its own, as is customary: it is immediately integrated into the musical framework. A motif emerges, but the composer explores its variations rather than inventing several in succession (another novelty). The Andantino in C is followed by a richly inventive Rondo. The harmonic structure is unexpected. The particularly rich construction includes a three-beat minuet. The theme (taken up fourteen years later as the leitmotif of Monostatos) is treated in four variations. So many innovations that today the Concerto "Jeunehomme" is seen as a breakthrough in the history of the genre, and a forerunner of the Romantic concertos.

Mozart, Alpenheim, Dorati a wonderfull trio! a lesson of marvelous music in every bars! A true miracle
It was perhaps Mozart's first real masterpiece, and one of his longest piano concertos (no. 22 is slightly longer).
The fifth piano concerto KV 175 composed when he was 17 is also a masterpiece
And historic document. Thanks for sharing it. Best regards from Colombia.
