We could see the end of the UK itself soon!
Good
@@user-ib9ky2jo9h really thats what you think.
Didn’t your mum tell you to stop believing in fairytales ?
the British just like the Russian believe they still hold any relevant dominance in the world, when in reality it's all been gone since the 1950s. Scotland joined England to 'dominate' the world, now that that's clearly over they will soon leave.
@@castellanos6436 ok ...
To be honest, who would notice? Or mind?
It is an anachronism, a throwback to an Empire that no longer exists. It's a talking shop but really little else.
"A talking shop" No different to the UN then.
That guy was definitely diplomatic - to the point where he didnt offer a definitive on anything whatsoever 😂
Perhaps the monarchy could go at the same time ?
No chance in the UK thank goodness the Commonwealth realms will mostly dissapear after the Queen though note the Commonwealth realms and the Commonwealth itself are not the same thing.
The current royal family doesn't seem to be bothered with us in the Commonwealth. Her Majesty made us such an important part of her reign. In the Commonweath we were taught that Britain was the be all & end all. Then Brexit happened. Suddenly, we all knew that Brit people were not sensible.
Togo and Gabon just joined its not dying
There is no such thing as the British Commonwealth. Do try and keep up, it has been known as THE COMMONWEALTH since 1949
Let's keep global cooperation going strong 💪😎🇺🇳🇪🇺🇬🇧🇺🇲
Let's preserve the British Commonwealth ☺️👍
How lucky that the Commonwealth meeting is in Rwanda! Boris could take some refugees on his plane? I'm sure he won't mind, and it might save a few quid.
I have lived in four Commonwealth countries and it can be a useful organization. AUKUS would not have happened but for the Commonwealth. People living in London don't get it. Many supposed internationalists have a very Eurocentric worldview and would rather deal with white-run countries. I have done M&A deals in Germany, Poland, and the Czech Republic. This is easier in many Commonwealth countries because there is a shared business culture. There are similar legal, tax, and accounting rules, and everybody speaks English. Students from many Commonwealth countries gravitate to the UK. Britain does not make the most of the commonwealth because of the snobbery that exists.
Everybody in Europe speaks English as well. The bad part for Brits is that the other people (in Europe) are wealthier or more powerful, so they do not need to kowtow to the Brits. That is what has always bothered the UK about Europe.
@@deannilvalli6579 Look at their teeth. They are better than you.
@@The_ZeroLineThat is a cryptic comment indeed. I can only wonder what this is meant to signify. Their teeth? Whose teeth? Why would that make anyone better? What crude and baseless stereotype are you referencing here?
What has AUKUS really got to do with the commonwealth? Sure, Australia is in the commonwealth. But the USA absolutely and pointedly is not. In practice the USA is agnostic about the commonwealth. But in principle the commonwealth is anathema to the Americans.
Probably, the thing that links AUKUS is the English language, similarity in government systems and ultimately that has a lot to do with colonial history. But the commonwealth? Surely not. I wouldn't be surprised if AUKUS expands to include different types of nations, for instance Japan. Why not?
@@MrBlaxjax I agree with most of your post, but would add:
1. The vast majority of Americans, I can assure you, do not know what "the Commonwealth" is, unless it refers to the Commonwealth of Pennsyvlania. So, they are more than agnostic.
2. I doubt the type of government has anything to do with the AUKUS deal. France is a Republic, as is the USA. France is the USA's oldest ally, and gave them the Statue of Liberty. Australia and UK are both NOT, at this time, republics. So in fact, France and the USA share more in common here.
3. The deal certainly has mainly to do with one thing- money. American defence contractors smelled a chance to make even more money. They have immense influence over politicians. 'nuff said.
How you can have a future led by more equal than others Boriska, Tony the Knight and the global laundromat in London?
Canada here. We're in as long as our Queen reigns. She is great. After that all bets are off. We can still hang but what's the real point of it anymore? UK has so much heavy work to do and no visible leadership at all. The Kingdowm itself might be irrelevant too.
Canada having the British Monarch as head of state and being members of the Commonwealth are nothing to do with each other two seperate things.
Irrelevant? The commonwealth accepted 2 new members the same month you wrote that nonsense.
@@dylanmurphy9389 trying not to over react to you arrogant use of the word nonsense but expansion and relevance are not synonomous. check out the viz from our now King and Queen Consort's travels through the islands in March. that my friend is borderline irrelevance. and please note that i really do love the commonwealth. would really like to see it succeed. cheers
.....and a relevance problem. I think my generation (I am 42, from South Africa), we kiiinnndddddd of "get" the Commonwealth because of our grandparents who fought for the British etc, but the generation after mine...not so much.
@MsMissy Not now that your Queen has passed. The Commonwealth was accepted by countries in those times because of the extreme delicate times (right after WW2): the queen gave a optimistic and sentimental look to the organization plus some of those countries were still part of the Empire, like Indian for example. In comparison, the new King, the changing times and the new generations won't be interested at all in keeping the organization going.
Not only that.... The Commonwealth has competition from all over the place. Regional blocs and the abolition of the monarchy and new international blocs are going to end the Commonwealth.
Lovely to see a diplomat being diplomatic!
Talk about myopic analysis. Two new members (Gabon and Togo) admitted this week and there's a huge queue of Francophone African countries waiting to get in due to Rwanda's success.
Canadian chiming in. The only relevance being a member of the commonwealth has to me on a daily basis is the picture on my money. I'd vote for the face that could make it worth what it used to be worth. I can tell you this, if my taxes went directly to supporting rich people being ridiculous in their entitlement, I wouldn't exactly be happy about it.
I pray for the British Commonwealth to last as long as possible 🙏🕉️✝️✡️☺️👍🇺🇲🇬🇧🇪🇺🇺🇳
Ounce upon a Time Britain guaranteed preferential treatment and a market to former Colonies of the African, Caribbean and Pacific countries. Before Brexit Braitain had chosen to align closer to EU and Global Economic obligations to the detriment of these Commonwealth Partners. I think they have been disenfranchised by Great Britain previously and are collectively rightfully weary. But I do believe that the African Caribbean and Pacific have realized that the are the majority populace and most possibly have a greater combine Economic output that Britain alone. I believe that thier is change afoot in the sense that these former nations are looking to use the Commonwealth to thoer their Economic ends just as Britain originally sought too and continues to do. With Brexit Britain will need the Commonwealth grouping more than ever now and the other nations know it. The African Caribbean and Pacific nations should actively look to control and use the Commonwealth grouping to thier ends thereby setting the narrative a d the agenda. It does after all has "Wealth" in its name and therefore if it's not an Economic Instrument then what good is it.
The Commonwealth is not an attractive trading bloc. Everyone has moved on since Britain joined the EEC /EU and they have long since made new and often better trading arrangements. It is Britain that nowadays seems cast adrift
With regards to trading, Australia by and large doesn't need Britain, we'd be looking to strengthen our ties, economically and otherwise, with other Commonwealth partners more so in such gatherings.

Let’s hope so spend money on people living below human standards
It's a talking shop, it only 'works' because the only thing they can agree on are clean water projects or building schools, even then pledging and delivering are two different things as Amber Heard taught us.
Bring up the threat of Climate Change for example and suddenly the reality of having oil producing states like Nigeria and Brunei in a group alongside many dozens of island nations about to drown makes very little sense.
Chaps Holidaying On Government Money thing happening again?
This silly video was made the same month that 2 African countries decided to join 😅
Commonwealth is getting stronger, not weaker
It has an enormous potential moreso now than previous....create a 54 country free trade group.....create a mega funding institution.....resolve migration....best advice dont allow climate to distract important but other enormorous issues.....critical first step decision will have to be on Secretary General....3 contestants creates a serious contest...current SG hardly assured of getting concensus vote....G
The only big market in the Commonwealth is India and they have zero interest in free trade with anybody. Most of those 54 countries have no need of a 54 nation free trade bloc because they already belong to various trade blocs....the blocs that make most sense for them to be in. It is only Britain that has cast itself adrift from its most logical trade partners

It's not the ''British'' Commonwealth; it is ''the Commonwealth''. The interviewer's ignorance of the most basic facts about the Commonwealth is borderline offensive . Boris Johnson as de facto head of the Commonwealth? Good grief , talk about clueless questions by the interviewer.
it is de facto Britains Commonwealth
Whose is it if not britains
@@ebbeb9827 no it’s not, it’s called the commonwealth of nations. No British word anyone in the title
Let them all go there merry way and
we can go ours.
5:07 democracy?, I used to believe that myth, no longer though, not after having lived here for over 15 years and seen what Tories' version of democracy is like, led by dictatorial Bo Jo the barbarian, too bad...
You just don't like the Government that was democratically elected, tough luck
The dictator who has been forced out of power without the people voting for it? You think he’s the dictator??? 😂😂
Great strengths are derived from allegiances, allies and agreements.
This is exactly how peace is maintained in Europe, and has worked for centuries.
Allegiances such as the Commonwealth allow, promote and propagate cultural norms, points of broad contact and powerful, lasting bonds.
Do we need them now?
More than ever!
‘To strengthen oneself by alliance is proof of weakness’
It would only be possible to end it by making it into something greater and closer with the United States.
Yeah that would have everyone heading for the exits pretty quickly !
It’s growing, not even close to ending. We welcomed Gabon & Togo as new members the same month this idiotic video came out. Even the title is false, it’s not called the British commonwealth, it’s called the commonwealth of nations.
@@dylanmurphy9389 So, it is another one like the League of Nations or the United Nations. There isn’t any clear information, that I have seen, about how this one guides law.
@@willjennings7191 the vast majority have a legal system based on English common law but some countries choose to mix their law with other things like civil laws and shariah.
There is a commonwealth charter that countries have to follow in order to be members, things such as being a democracy and promoting peace.
@@dylanmurphy9389Didn’t the League of Nations do something like that? I don’t know the legal theory for making multiple *Nouns* of Nations.
Just when you thought the British empire couldn't fade away any further
@MsMissy Royal family falling apart. Racist William, sex offender Andrew, Harry couldn't move any further away. Bozo Johnson breaking scandal after scandal. Fade away fade away bye bye bye
Oh look, Gabon and Togo just joined it.
Huh, guess it really is fading, right sweetheart?
Commonwealth is growing and getting stronger. Living inside a dream world must be difficult for you.
Honestly in my opinion I don’t think that countries who aren’t anglophones or who weren’t a part of the former British empire should be allowed to join as it was created for more trade between former British colonies, yes I agree that trade is good but we could trade with them separately and not allow them to join. I’m not a big fan or the French language and to an extent the people and francophone countries in Africa just don’t seem like a good fit for the commonwealth. I love me brothers and sisters of Africa but I’m kinda just have more of an affinity to former British colonies.
Any country is welcome because it isn’t the British empire, it’s something new. Francophone countries that are joining want English to be the main foreign language because it’s beneficial for trade
Some English speaking African countries have joined the French equivilant the OIF.
It's very instant to say that... it began with the good goal of the future, there standing God Allah Will too, how to make human close more to their God Allah... glory, golden, and gospel, all interpreted correctly in this empire, the base looks very very strong... just find the true king to lead this empire... i wanna become a true king about that, sorry to be arrogant but when power and capability and many other come, the responsibility come too... the great power always walks together with the responsibilty is... you have your right, you must follow your responsibility, no doubt... 🌐🇬🇧❤️
