- Canada's Alberta has cancelled its bid to host the 2030 Commonwealth games. This comes weeks after Australia's Victoria withdrew its bid to host the 2026 games. Why should countries sponsor the nonsensical hangover of British Imperialism? The Commonwealth games are as stale as yesterday's cucumber sandwich. Time for India to dump the Commonwealth?

maybe there’s no point of the commwealth, but the CWG should stay, maybe just renamed. the CWG helps nations that thrive if similar sports (cricket, rugby, hockey, netball) to compete against each other at elite level. for many athletes it’s the second biggest event (after the Olympics) and helps nations prepare for events such as the Olympics

However, many smaller countries in Africa, Caribbean and Pacific like the Commonwealth and its Games.
India should leave -it wouldn't be missed as it is always complaining about everything.

They were courteously rejected by India in favor of a more savory event. The Olympics. Again why put all that effort in fixing your city for a mini-world stage event when they could get the full course at the biggest stage event there is. The truth is all these world stage events are becoming more and more out of reach for most countries and cities. There is a call for better economics and higher environmental standards. Now more and more these world stage events are going multi-country and multi-city to cover the risks and costs involved. And what is also a step in the right direction a push for temporary venues instead of white elephants.

Quite frankly India needs the commonwealth, more than the commonwealth needs india. Why? Simple. Despite India's size and position on the global stage. Its diplomatic Corp is notoriously weak. A relic no doubt of India's nuetral-isolationist position during the cold war.
