That's just an issue from worn out valve cover gasket, specifically the spark plug tube o rings which are part of the valve cover gasket set. Always remove the oil from the tube BEFORE removing the spark plug so that you don't get oil drip down to the top of the piston. As far as the spark plug goes, the ones the put in their are the upgraded version, same heat range, but that was the laser cut version, costs more than the regular iridium but the laser cut version is slightly more efficient. No catastrophic issue here. Valve cover gasket set runs about $15 bucks, and 1 hour install time max. Probably change the PCV valve at the same time or at least check and clean it.

@@wesfields9322 if everything goes perfectly it can be 20 minutes but for someome that has never done it before it can and many times does take longer than that. Especially if they run in to some issues during the process.

@@23soccerFTW14 Yup worn out spark plug tube o-rings. First get all of the oil out of the spark plug tube. You can use a turkey baster for that or an automotive fuel/oil extractor. Once all of the oil is removed you are then good to take out the spark plugs, remove the entire valve cover and install a new valve cover gasket kit.

I would hardly call a leaking valve cover gasket catastrophic, no big deal at all. Same thing with wrong sparkplugs, Japanese engines are very robust and as long as it runs well no issue at all.

@michael konstantinovich bordwell I work on motorcycles and when the Honda CBR 1000R first came out the factory spark plugs were dual electrode NGK (sorry forget the exact part#) that cost $67 EACH from the dealer. Guess who bought them? Nobody...
As long as they are in the same heat range and have the correct reach they will work just peachy. You might be replacing them a lot more often and coils as well but the engine will run just fine with them.
This gentleman who made the video makes it appear a leaking valve cover gasket wrecked the motor.

I have a question to ask you. I have a 2008 Audi A4 quattro convertible 2.0. I for some stupid reason put to much oil because on the engine dipstick said it needed or stupid me didn't see well the oil reading on the dipstick anyways I had an overfilling of oil and didn't know till I see alot of white smoke coming out of my tailpipes. I took it to the mechanic and he told me it was overfilled with oil and that was the reason why white smoke was coming out. Just like you found oil on the coils and spark plugs I decided to check one of my coils and I found some oil on the bottom. I didn't remove the spark plug to see. The oil found can it be because of the previous over flow of oil? I want to change my spark plugs and coils. I have everything to do it but the little oil found on the bottom of the coil kinda stop me from putting new spark plugs and coils. Can I try to remove the remaining oil left with a rag? Can I still install the spark plugs and coils? I really wanted to do this tune up.

If oil is leaking from the top of the valve cover, where the coil seal is, why isn't there oil stains down the inside wall of the coil tubes? Is it possible oil is coming from the bottom of the coil tube, where it's attached to the head?
Pull all the plugs, then spin the engine over to ensure pistons blow all oil out of the cylinders. Oil is not compressible so if the plug is pulled without removing the oil, and the oil runs into the cylinder, one could be in for a surprise when trying to start the engine.

I brought a 20 years old Toyota Corolla that has 30K original miles original tire as a back up car. I put the car in storage and did not use it much until last year, I found oil leak from valve cover gasket to engine manifold. I don't have $500.00 for this job ($299.00 for replacing spark plug and $300.00 for valve cover gasket job. I pull a spark plug off and it flood with oil on 3 spark plugs and struck PVC valve. I pull a valve cover off and put a new valve cover gasket and new PVC valve and new Denso spark plug. and $12.00 cleaning solution and put everything back. It took me 4 hours as an old man working on the sun at 100 degree temperature. I clean everything. There is no leak. I also replaced a power window regulator two years ago because I don't have 6 weeks waiting time with can not window open and I save $700.00 and risk to have window open for two months,

I had that problem of lack of power up a gentle incline... Fuel injectors MAY be the problem and got new rebuilt ones that are warranted.... about $130 shipped... and I found my symptoms were from an old (and now replaced) intake manifold gasket (leaked air after the MAFS already had measured the air going by it...). An old car will have gaskets fail eventually.... see?
