Why are people comparing this to the surface studio? This is a laptop. Not an all in one desktop. If you like the surface book, go buy it. If you like the MacBook Pro, go buy it.
J Scott Upton Maybe the all in one to beat. I built a desktop a month ago that trounces it in every category performance wise. But, I'll never be able to replicate the immersive, creative experience of the studio - which I'm okay with. I'll also bet that 99.9% of people commenting on how amazing the studio is wouldn't actually use the surface studio as intended. You might draw a stick figure, sure, but that's a $3000 machine that'll only be worth it's value for creatives. Now, if we want to go more apples to apples, the i7 surface book is the better comparison. Both high end models start at 2399. I think most people will get their money's worth by going with the MacBook Pro. Again, the surface book is geared towards creatives with the stylus and "clipboard".

If they kept that extra 3.3 millimetres they may have stayed on 50 watt GPUs like before, not moved down to 35W like here, and kept that quarter of the battery size they shaved off. The top end 460 graphics are an improvement from the old m370x, but the regular 450 isn't much better because the power draw went down, cancelling out most the perf gain from the new architecture.
Danial khan Apple has been saying this for YEARS!!! Why don't people know about this yet. In one of the introductory videos for one of their products (I think 2008 MacBook Air) they said "when we tried to build the multitouch technology into the screen, we found that it isn't very natural to be waiving your arm in the air when you have a trackpad right in front of you"... so basically they don't do it because it isn't very ergonomical and it is easier to use you hand on the trackpad (hints the reason for the huge f***ing trackpad on this new gen MacBook.

I used touchscreen laptops before and let me tell you. THEY ARE SHIT. Is extremely useless, idk what situation you would want to touch a laptop screen on mac OS or windows. They also make the screen generally shittier with dirt and grease, is not recommended. If you are looking for drawing on the screen, there is something called Apple pencil and iPad pro.
I have a Macbook Pro which was the last model to feature the Touch Bar. It has a physical escape key instead of it being part of the Touch Bar. I must admit it looked pretty impressive in the shop (hence why I bought it) but I have hardly ever used it at all. I do miss the physical function keys on my old Macbook Pro; which sadly is broken.
I don't think this bar will help type faster, unless maybe you type slow. If you can type decent enough, it would be faster to just type than stop, look down, read the word and select it.

A lot of Windows users are saying they need the whole screen to touch as it's difficult to use the new touch pad due to severley limited had-eye coordination... a don't forget the constant 'cleaning' needed for Windows screens from gooey fingers....
You do not need so many ports anyway. If you want, just go and get yourself another laptop with more ports. If you insist on getting an Apple one, just go ahead and buy an iMac. It's not that expensive.
I don't think this laptop sucks. I do believe in it. A lot of ppl think Apple has lost its touch but those ppl are closed minded and stay stuck in the past. UsbC is the future, and yes it's been here and has been used, but not so much like this. a lot of things have gone wireless, So it doesn't make sense to have those unless ports. Blames those other companies that haven't changed. The touch bar is really nice. Since its first gen it still need more updates and have more cool things. Think about how many times you use F1 F2 and so on! It's great to have that space to use it for other stuff. Yes it would be cool to also have a touch screen but I think a lot of ppl don't use that unless your drawing. I'm sorry but Microsoft sucks, yes they're done things that are very similar or just the same, in the past but the real question is have they done it right? I agree. Yes the premium hardware from Microsoft is very nice, but to me it seems like they're losing their touch in the software part of things, ironically the thing that placed them on the map in the first place. To me windows 10 just feels like a constant beta released operating system because they're always adding new things or fixing very obvious glitches found in the system, and it just doesn't feel like a "complete" operating system like it used to be, like with Windows 7. You could just turn on the device and expect it to run properly. Ive had more blue screens using Windows 10 than I have any other Windows. At least when I had my Macbook everything had that "complete and solid" feel to me, and its always been roughly the same experience since macOS has ever been released, with just a few tweaks and adjustments to it. With Windows, it feels like they dont even know what to be anymore. They used to be desktop, then they tried going all touch mode with Windows 8/8.1 which I personally didnt mind but people bitched their asses off about it, and now theyre trying this inbred-hybrid crap between both desktop and touch environment, which I guess works somewhat well but it doesnt feel complete because they're tweaking it every other week, and it's been out for how long now? I think Microsoft right now has serious identity issues lol, which is why I chose to abandon ship in favor of Android and Apple, but soon plan to be Apple only. Not that I hated android, I just feel like Apple has a better ecosystem.
Touchbar is a groundbreaking innovation of personal computers. It is very convenient and natural to use. It is better to have have adaptive keys rather than cramping up more options on single keys itself. It is very obvious and simple yet very innovative. I have been Windows user for more than 15 years and I switched to Macs in 2020 and I really like the presence of maturity in the MacOS and it's hardware - simple and elegant.
I really wish they didn’t get rid of the light. I agree it wouldn’t be to much of a contrast with space grey but something subtle but an eye catcher. It gave it personality. The touchpad is to thin for anything useful and not all software accommodates it and it needs way more customisation. And for Petes sake what happened to continuity why can you guys have one port usb c for all your device so

The MacBook Pro is a portable machine at the expense of everything else. The studio is a behemoth 28 inch desktop that's nowhere near portable. You might as well compare a quad CPU server to a phone as they both 'compute' things. Compare the MacBooks to the surface book instead as they are direct competitors in the same product category.

Touch Bar appear to be more of a gimmick to me.I agree that the function keys have become irrelevant so the Touch Bar is still a nice touch. I think it would have been nicer at the bottom of the keyboard, than at the top.

It´s interesting what he say´s at the end about the 15" MBP that "it STARTS with 16GB of RAM.. ". But there was never an option to choose more or upgrade the Ram.. Only 16GB in a Professional Workstation in 2017? Come on. When working with music production it is not a lot. Even just surfing using Chrome with a lot of tabs require huge amount of RAM. I really do love Apple but got disappointed. My upgraded MBP from 2011 which have 500GB SSD and 16GB RAM is still comparable with their latest one in 2017.

Instead of touch bar they could have made touch pad made up of glass with all the existing functionality plus the new functionality of touch bar. Just imagine how much more could have been achieved by that. Touch pad area is like potential smart phone in itself.
I don't really like the features~ but you have to admit the design is pretty special with larger touchpad so it looks better, and flush 4 USB c ports. If there isn't any touch bar and 300$ cheaper with the same specs it would've been perfect
i hate functional keys, It is so lame to use 2 keys Alt+F4 that too very hard to reach to just a simple task from keyboard. Maybe this is a new for using the computers in the future but I miss Steve as the speaker.
Even though I am not that impressed with this OLED touch strip, I do want to try it and experience how it works. The first speaker's movement is giving me an impression that he is really excited and not really excited all the same time. He is trying so hard to find big words to introduce an OLED touch bar, poor guy. Learning the Apple keynote technique for sure will get you through all the high school and college presentations as you can turn 1 or 2 words into a full 15 minute - 60 presentation in which will make people want to buy your presentation file for 500+ dollars after. "I have here a slide... its beautifully designed and its only 20KB in file size which is unheard of...Its the new gold standard in powerpoint presentation. It comes with 1 picture and no text. Its absolutely incredible. "

As in name it say "pro", that means it is for power users but in reality they are dumbing their machines in order to increase the sales as a consumption device. among not tech savy people. Power user feel frustrated because they expected performance wise upgrade in macOS and mac machine. But these power users have been left behind. Experts already know enough keyboard shortcuts to achieve things that magic toolbar is capable of. For example press ctrl+command+space on your mac. you will see emoji. There was no need to make mac expensive by putting unnecessary toolbar at the top. I would call it invention if they replace magic touch pad with iOS touch screen display. That would have impressed me.

Every new notebooks or iMac should come with matching new operating software. It's not really safe having the same operating softwares with desktop and notebook.

There is no innovation when you can get the same specs less than 1000 dollars and even better than the studio. Here is the combo: iPad pro 12 inch with Apple pencil (Best drawing device ever!!!). 3k-5k is just a little too crazy for weak specs on the surface studio. The 5k resolution imac is half the price with similar specs. Microsoft is definitely innovative when it comes to grabbing money now.

And by the time there was enough content (about today) new 4k TV became VASTLY cheaper, more accessible, with better, contrast ratios, Colors, refresh rates, etc to the point where the early adoptors who payed a mini-fortune for 4K TVs, now have their TV be basically inferior to everything else remotely mid-to-high end

Base 15" starts at CAD $3,000 now.... it was $2,000 about 18 months ago. That's a huge amount of money just to get a 15" MacBook.

I don't think this laptop sucks. I do believe in it. A lot of ppl think Apple has lost its touch but those ppl are closed minded and stay stuck in the past. UsbC is the future, and yes it's been here and has been used, but not so much like this. a lot of things have gone wireless, So it doesn't make sense to have those unless ports. Blames those other companies that haven't changed. The touch bar is really nice. Since its first gen it still need more updates and have more cool things. Think about how many times you use F1 F2 and so on! It's great to have that space to use it for other stuff. Yes it would be cool to also have a touch screen but I think a lot of ppl don't use that unless your drawing. I'm sorry but Microsoft sucks, yes they're done things that are very similar or just the same, in the past but the real question is have they done it right? I've had Microsoft computers and they always have issues, and ever since I switched to Apple I've had a better experience with them
I agree. Yes the premium hardware from Microsoft is very nice, but to me it seems like they're losing their touch in the software part of things, ironically the thing that placed them on the map in the first place. To me windows 10 just feels like a constant beta released operating system because they're always adding new things or fixing very obvious glitches found in the system, and it just doesn't feel like a "complete" operating system like it used to be, like with Windows 7. You could just turn on the device and expect it to run properly. Ive had more blue screens using Windows 10 than I have any other Windows. At least when I had my Macbook everything had that "complete and solid" feel to me, and its always been roughly the same experience since macOS has ever been released, with just a few tweaks and adjustments to it. With Windows, it feels like they dont even know what to be anymore. They used to be desktop, then they tried going all touch mode with Windows 8/8.1 which I personally didnt mind but people bitched their asses off about it, and now theyre trying this inbred-hybrid crap between both desktop and touch environment, which I guess works somewhat well but it doesnt feel complete because they're tweaking it every other week, and it's been out for how long now? I think Microsoft right now has serious identity issues lol, which is why I chose to abandon ship in favor of Android and Apple, but soon plan to be Apple only. Not that I hated android, I just feel like Apple has a better ecosystem.

Touchbar is a groundbreaking innovation of personal computers. It is very convenient and natural to use. It is better to have have adaptive keys rather than cramping up more options on single keys itself. It is very obvious and simple yet very innovative. I have been Windows user for more than 15 years and I switched to Macs in 2020 and I really like the presence of maturity in the MacOS and it's hardware - simple and elegant.

You might as well compare a quad CPU server to a phone as they both 'compute' things. Compare the MacBooks to the surface book instead as they are direct competitors in the same product category.

Touch Bar appear to be more of a gimmick to me.I agree that the function keys have become irrelevant so the Touch Bar is still a nice touch. I think it would have been nicer at the bottom of the keyboard, than at the top.

It´s interesting what he say´s at the end about the 15" MBP that "it STARTS with 16GB of RAM.. ". But there was never an option to choose more or upgrade the Ram.. Only 16GB in a Professional Workstation in 2017? Come on. When working with music production it is not a lot. Even just surfing using Chrome with a lot of tabs require huge amount of RAM. I really do love Apple but got disappointed. My upgraded MBP from 2011 which have 500GB SSD and 16GB RAM is still comparable with their latest one in 2017.

I don't really like the features~ but you have to admit the design is pretty special with larger touchpad so it looks better, and flush 4 USB c ports. If there isn't any touch bar and 300$ cheaper with the same specs it would've been perfect

i hate functional keys, It is so lame to use 2 keys Alt+F4 that too very hard to reach to just a simple task from keyboard. Maybe this is a new for using the computers in the future but I miss Steve as the speaker.
Even though I am not that impressed with this OLED touch strip, I do want to try it and experience how it works. The first speaker's movement is giving me an impression that he is really excited and not really excited all the same time. He is trying so hard to find big words to introduce an OLED touch bar, poor guy. Learning the Apple keynote technique for sure will get you through all the high school and college presentations as you can turn 1 or 2 words into a full 15 minute - 60 presentation in which will make people want to buy your presentation file for 500+ dollars after. "I have here a slide... its beautifully designed and its only 20KB in file size which is unheard of...Its the new gold standard in powerpoint presentation. It comes with 1 picture and no text. Its absolutely incredible. "

As in name it say "pro", that means it is for power users but in reality they are dumbing their machines in order to increase the sales as a consumption device. among not tech savy people. Power user feel frustrated because they expected performance wise upgrade in macOS and mac machine. But these power users have been left behind. Experts already know enough keyboard shortcuts to achieve things that magic toolbar is capable of. For example press ctrl+command+space on your mac. you will see emoji. There was no need to make mac expensive by putting unnecessary toolbar at the top. I would call it invention if they replace magic touch pad with iOS touch screen display. That would have impressed me.

Public knowledge that a MacBook is more suitable for those applications. When a windows based machine has a better interface and security within their OS, then we can talk innovation.

Here is the combo: iPad pro 12 inch with Apple pencil (Best drawing device ever!!!). 3k-5k is just a little too crazy for weak specs on the surface studio. The 5k resolution imac is half the price with similar specs. Microsoft is definitely innovative when it comes to grabbing money now.

Think of it like the early adoptors of 4K TVs... They said "This is the future" and it totally is... but there was hardly any 4K content available to take advantage of it. And by the time there was enough content (about today) new 4k TV became VASTLY cheaper, more accessible, with better, contrast ratios, Colors, refresh rates, etc to the point where the early adoptors who payed a mini-fortune for 4K TVs, now have their TV be basically inferior to everything else remotely mid-to-high end

You saying “Why would anyone need an HDMI port” is like saying “why would anyone need to plug in flash drives, or thier Phone, or SD cards, or hook up a monitor” (yes I know that the USB-C thunderbolt ports can do the same, but if you don’t have a monitor that supports it then your out of luck and need either an adaptor or a new monitor. And I have yet to meet someone who says they *like* to cary around adaptors just to plug any of there stuff)
