This was a great first video! You took a unique approach at analyzing the lore and I think it payed off! Miyazaki has said in interviews that there is something hidden in the Shadow of the Erdtree title and I think you found it, I have not seen anywhere else mentioned that duality of Gold and Silver being reflected in the title. The idea that Miquella could be trying to acquire unalloyed silver, thus he needs to divest himself of all things golden, is ingenious, and it seems so spot on that it has to happen in the DLC. Also, anybody who thinks that Miquella had a hand in the Night of the Black Knives gets an A+ in my book. That little bastard is lying through his teeth in that Golden Epitaph sword! Great job!
Awesome video! I really love when someone comes in and shows us the puzzle pieces in a new arrangement. Even on a surface level, I can totally see the Two Known as D representing the eclipse. The imagery of the union of gold and silver (sun and moon, respectively) is very evocative and plays back into the alchemical/hermetic inspirations of Elden Ring's design.
Perfectly sound reasoning and great work! Honestly, these thoughts bring such a breath of fresh air to the lore interpretation, especially with how often D is overlooked beyond his questline. The one-soul-two-bodies concept should absolutely have broader lore implications. I love the eerie idea of Miquella being behind it all - it's a popular and recurring statement, with his influence popping up everywhere - your final conjecture really cements that notion for me, as it reinforces the idea of Miquella being the most fearsome Empyrean.
Nice! Really interesting speculation. Biggest hitch I see is that “D” wouldn’t have been able to perform the eclipse ritual if Radahn’s death is a prerequisite for that. Also seems fishy that they would be able to when all of Miquella’s resources couldn’t. Doesn’t kill the overall idea though and it could be a many roads lead to Rome scenario. Definitely an interesting thought and a very solid video!
That's a pretty good point, they would've had to do this before Radahn arrested the stars. Alternatively, perhaps Radahn doesn't have anything to do with the Eclipse, then I would speculate that Castle Sol lacked the proper silver to satisfy the Eclipse.
Maybe only an eclipse specifically is required for two demigods to perform the act rather than men, and they completed it in some other smaller scale way.
Also matches up with the alchemical lore on display in this game and their past Soulsborne titles! I think this is the best theory we have on Miquella's intent so far.
This would also explain how Ranni and Miquella are so close: she ended up with Torrent and his Spirit Wolves- maybe these were left to her by Miquella when he went into his cocoon
Obv I can only guess but according to OP’s video they had aligned interests: Miquella needed a vessel to escape his curse and Ranni needed a way to sever her empyrean obligation to the Two Fingers/Greater Will
Finally, someone came up with a new and good theory. Recently, I'm sick of those 'Miq is Melina' and 'Gloam-Eyed Queen' theories. You really cooked well, but ı think Silver represent St.Trina, and Miquella tries to conjoined with her. We know that the Shadow Land was where Marika ascended to godhood and where the Erdtree was born, and Miquella went to the Shadow Land, following in his mother's footsteps. Another axis of the story is Queen Marika and what she did in the Land of Shadow, and what led Miquella to follow her there.- Hidetaka Miyazaki Miquella tries to achieve true godhood, and for that, he has to become one with St. Trina, who is his other self. Thou'rt yet to become me. Thou'rt yet to become a god. - Marika's words In this way, Miquella follows in his mother's footsteps without repeating her mistakes and achieves full godhood.
Hm, this is really interesting. To bring up the eclipse again idk if people have talked about this but you’re most likely going to have to kill Radahn to endure the DLC because the eclipse is going to happen in there and you can’t have Radahn holding back the stars for that to happen. The gold and silver in the title also makes so much sense, good first video.
Great video. I've been thinking of the DLC tree as two halves and the Haligtree as one incomplete half for ages. Glad to hear someone else talking about it. I always thought the two halves were the Haligtree and the Erdtree, but maybe this doesn't conflict with your ideas. Miquellas Haligtree could have been the "silver" half and the Erdtree the "golden" half
By george he just might be onto something Love the idea love the evidence and support for the theory Keep on keepin on my guy subin to see the "i F'in called it victory lap video"
For a first video, this is bloody spectacular. I’m so impressed. You ventured down several paths I thought were unique to my nerdiness, but you even took it in directions I hadn’t considered. For example the Godwyn bits and Miquella’s motivations for possibly wanting to in some way resurrect Godwyn or deliver to him a true death. Incredible offering to the lore community at large! I’m a big fan already, but I cannot wait to debate you more about electrum and how and why I think it’s more relevant to your very own theory than you’re willing to consider thus far! But I’m CERTAIN I will be able to convince you once we have discussed things a bit more!!! Looking forward to those conversations! Thank you so much for this absolutely gem of a video. Favourited!!!
I think Miquella's goal is to simply occupy Godwyn's body to escape his curse. At some point, he realised that his soul was gone for good. However, that begs the question: did Miquella and Ranni have a pact? Sister, you want to free your body from the two fingers, I want a new body. But that would make Miquella evil, not just opportunistic. Would he kill his older brother since there was evidence that they were close?
Great video I like the theory. But we sort of get a conclusion to godwyn in the base game with Fia. He is reborn as the mending rune. It could be that fia only rebirth his body and godwyns soul is in the land of shadow or something.
Great video and it makes sense I think you’re right for the most part. The only thing jumping out at me is how exactly was D able to get unalloyed silver to complete the ritual? If it doesn’t already exist in the lands between and Miquella is assumed to be in the land of shadow to gain unalloyed silver, how would a guy who’s essentially a nobody in comparison to Miquella be able to get his hands on such a substance? There’s a possibility that since they didn’t have that empyrean status they didn’t require unalloyed silver maybe. My bad I’m just a hole poker when it comes to theorizing, it’s not to say you’re wrong just that there’s a small detail or two that if we can make sense into your theory might even help to explain other things
I can see that being confusing. I do not think that D needed unalloyed silver, just regular silver and regular gold will do. It is only because Miquella discovered/created Unalloyed Gold, that I imagine he will now need to discover/create Unalloyed Silver.
The rebirth monuments are indeed for spirit summoning, the 'rebirth' in their name denotes the revival of spirits. The stakes of Marika are not distinctly for rebirth, they are just funnels for the respawn function of sites of grace and specifically require a Tarnished to be traveling through them.
According to cut content, FromSoft originally planned for the world to change as u progressed through the story but abandoned it probably cos the ps4 wouldn't be able to handle it, which really annoys me. Imagine actually being able to change the world by doing certain things like helping Miquella to initiate the eclipse.

Silver representing rebirth, the title of tarnished makes so much more sense, since gold doesnt.

Interesting deduction, why though?
Melina gives the player torrent
Who gave Torrent to Melina?
@@maxamilian8 my question is WHY was Ranni chosen to be entrusted with these gifts

Thought you'd be interested to know that someone just posted something VERY similar on Reddit.
Oh?
Good thing this was noticed, the post has been removed by the mods!

Correct me if I’m wrong, aren’t the small statues for spirit summoning? The stakes of Marika are for “rebirth”
