No, He wasn't a Saint, far from it. He certainly was not a hypocrite either and managed so very well to relate to the common folk and express the feelings and sentiments of the working class. Good post ,Thank you.

He was common folk. He grew up in abject poverty and was not formally educated.

Abraham Lincoln learned of Rob't Burns when he was running for elected office in Illinois. He carried a Robert Burns volume in a pocket all the time, for he found inspiration from his works, as well as the tragedies of Shakespeare. "A Man's a Man For A' That" for example. Dig for more enlightenment.

Thank you, I did not know that. There is a statue of Robert Burns in Central Park, New York? I did not know that either.
There is worth in being poor, there is nobility in being ordinary, there is greatness in being good and moral without the acclaim of others.

I believe it was 'Green Grow The Rushes Oh" the military would sing this as they marched.
IT was after hearing this, Latin nations would only hear the beginning
"Green Grow" thats where the word GRINGO came from.

As a Scot in exile I still cringe at "New Year's". Of course it stems from New Year's Eve. It, however, alters the true meaming of the original term which implies the ENTIRE year, not just the evening. Cheers my friend!
