      @@BarnesysBuilds put fresh plastic down everywhere maybe get a fan blowing the overspray out if you haven’t already . You’ll be alright mate . Put an extra coat of clear on it if it has a heap of dust

      @@BogDustForBreakfast Yeah i was thinking i may even open one side of the booth and run a large fan to blow the overspray out, not sure yet.

      @@BarnesysBuilds the fan idea will work really well . Guns I love the walcom slim Kombat in 1.3 . Great all rounder for base and clear . Think they are $450.00 . If you want something better , go with the walcom genesi carbonio 360 light in 1.2mm. I own both guns and swear by them

    • @BogDustForBreakfast
      @BogDustForBreakfast 2 роки тому +1

      @@BarnesysBuilds all guns will cause mottle , it’s basically due to mettalics landing flat and standing up which gives the mottle appearance. After you have full coverage of colour . Simply move gun back roughly an arms distance , lower pressure and dust a coat on . This will make the mettalics all stand up evening it all out plus once it’s cleared give it more sparkle .

    Oh Christ yes! Metallic colour is where it’s at mate great choice ! It’ll look sick all done with chrome compliments and dark window tint !- just have a research on metallic paint application as it’s not as easy as solid colours but coupla quick tips would be to pull the tips off of a full fan (95% full fan ) 2/3 overlap instead of half overlap as this avoids tram tracking and steady hand of course to lay down the flake evenly - don’t be frightened to spend a litre on practice panels to get the gist man- have fun

    • @BarnesysBuilds
      @BarnesysBuilds  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks Athony, I am going to try and minimise the base colour mottle effect by practise first, going to use the dusting layer at the start, 75% overlap and the final drop coat technique for the metallic to remove the risk of mottle and lines. It seems to be a very effective method as long as i have a good gun and decent product to work with as well which i will. The only big risk will be overspray as the booth does not have enough fan draw currently. I need to sort that out. I agree with the chrome and wheels adding to the paint! Getting pumped and nervous!

    Love the colour!! I laughed when you used a Porsche to announce the colour choice. If you haven't seen the latest episode of Shenke Garage definitely watch it, I think you inspired him to make his channel and his latest episode is showing his mistakes while painting his tonner cab.

    • @BarnesysBuilds
      @BarnesysBuilds  2 роки тому +3

      Thanks mate, yeah Porsche is the German Holden! Both built tuff as nails vehicles! I did see Shenkes episode, definitely something i will be looking out for, thats why i have gone polyester surfacer and spent a few more weeks on the body lines to get them right and to research metallic painting techniques that eliminate mottley effect. From my research, Mottle can happen for a few reasons, applying too many coats so the metallics pool together and bunch up, it can also be because of static in the panel and also not finishing with a drop coat which basically crop dusts the panel with metallic to feather out any patterns or lines.

    Love the colour choice👍. I see you are the master at blocking now lol, great work......1st time, B/C C/C, metallic, tricky colour....I know there's no convincing you to pay a pro to paint it in a booth so I'm wishing you luck, and don't be to hard on yourself if its not perfect, Knowledge and experience is under rated in the painting game.

    • @BarnesysBuilds
      @BarnesysBuilds  2 роки тому

      Thanks Mark, Yeah i decided to extend my Blocking experience a few more weeks to get it right, defintely has paid off otherwise the bodywork would've been shit. I hear you with the PRO painter but for budget reasons and also self challenge it's not on the table. I am going to try and minimise the base colour mottle effect by practise first, going to use the dusting layer at the start, 75% overlap and the final drop coat technique for the metallic to remove the risk of mottle and lines. It seems to be a very effective method as long as i have a good gun and decent product to work with as well which i will. • @markstone5593
      @markstone5593 2 роки тому +1

      @@BarnesysBuilds Yep.. it sounds like you have done your home work, practice applying the base coat on as wet and even as you can (after the 1st coat of course so it has something to stick to). you should be good to go. If things aren't going to plan stop and solve the problems before the clear goes on. You'll practice on the engine bay and under side of bonnet etc 1st.
      Think like a ROBOT when handling the spray gun. Watch how the pro"s handle the gun and Don't get caught up in the way some of them are flicking it around, some of those guys are really good and it looks like they don't care where the paint is going, but they are watching closely and know exactly whats happening.
      Do some dry runs painting the hole car from start to finish, it sounds dumb but unless you have painted a few cars before this is the next best practice you can do.
      Mate I just don't want to see you do what Shenke Garage(youtube channel) has just done to he's Ute. Ok so he was using 3k worth of DNA paints(very tricky), trying to do it in he's shed, the average painter wouldn't attempt this, Not trying to scare you...practice👍look forward to seeing it in some colour.

    • @BarnesysBuilds
      @BarnesysBuilds  2 роки тому +2

      @@markstone5593 Yeah I still have a lot of things to get in order before I am going to tackle it. Ordered a Walcom Kombat gun today 1.3 tip. The lesonal metallic paint seemed very easy to apply and won't break the bank, so I have a good gun, good paint, as I mentioned the booth is the weak point and obviously my strategy but I can work on that. I confident in my technique, I am used to be methodical like a robot in my job so it transfers over. I saw what happened to Skenke, worst part is he didn't even paint it, his professional mate did apparently. Thanks Mark
