Rolling my IT kept me from knee injury, my quads and IT bands were so tight it began to impinge my knee and cause "popping", after rolling, pressure pointing( with lacrosse ball) and massaging (using massage gun) for a whole weekend my IT band and quads released and the popping went away as well as the pain.
I enjoy foam rolling: As a former massage therapist, I remain ironically and woefully negligent about getting regular massages for my own aging body; foam rolling does help relieve a lot of muscle and mental tension. And I think you have an excellent presentation, due to the inclusion of anatomical graphics. As I followed along with your instruction, I kept thinking that I would have loved to have a video like this for studying purposes in massage school: I could have reviewed muscles and their attachments, all while reducing the tension of being a student! Hey, there's a marketing idea for you as thanks for making this video:-)
Nice job! Thanks so much for putting this comprehensive tutorial together. I just shared with a new client and posted to the online FB group Fit Pros Unite.
I've been with a personal trainer for the last few months and before that I'd never heard of foam rollers. Your videos are always so helpful and I have improved a lot
OMG such a detailed video 😍 you are amazing. Explained everything too well. I have just been randomly rolling and I am suffering from extremely tight muscles all over the body. Going to put my knowledge gained from video into practice. Thank you you so much 🤗
Great information! Feels so good. Do you have a video that you do both sides? I wanted to roll along with you but only options are to do one complete side then start the video over to do the other or hit the pause button every minute or so. Thanks!
Thank you so much for this video. I am new to foam rolling and bought one like you are using in the video. I had a pretty severe leg break 3 years ago and am finally taking the time and action to take care of myself properly. This video gives me confidence that I won’t be doing more damage and hopefully on the road to better mobility. Thanks Joe 😃👍🏻👍🏻
I foam roll my it band, I use my arm to take some weight off and adjust as needed, or I use a worn blue roller that’s well broken in I love the loose feeling I have after a foam roller session, great video , thanks
I am so thankful to have you, Joe, explaining such details and great vital information with all the videos you make! You can't get this info easily at all as a contributing citizen of society unless you have an extensive history with schooling and specialization. Damn, I mean you taught my very own physiotherapist some things he didn't know! Always happy to share your content with my friends and family to help inform!
well explained esp for lower body but I wish there was more suggestions for the back (particularly lower back) and the upper body . overall though very helpful
I've dealt with severe back pain and tightness over the years and seen countless chiropractors and therapists to no avail. Joe therapy this is a very informative video. Been following your Instagram for some time now and your stretches and information are great! Keep up the amazing work!! And thank you for teaching so many of us how to care for our bodies in ways we didnt know were needed to feel good !! 👍 Foam Rolling For The WIN!! 😎
I like rolling out my IT band. I used to dead lift and if I didn't foam roll pre workout my it band would produce an electrical tingling feeling. Definitely love to roll it out 💪🙌. Vote 1 IT band foam roller enthusiast.
Is this good befor or after workout?also can i use a handheld massager or roller is more beneficial ?im deaf and hand use cl8se caption but it wasn't accurate
It decrease the soreness of muscles and increase blood flow make your mody more strechy and remove pain the muscles pain doing after doing the exercise of gym etc hope you well know why we should use foam roller :)
I recently started foam rolling for pain in hip, knee and back. I would like to know what is the difference between the effects when comparing with a massage gun. I would like to get a massage gun. Thanks
Hello. I don't know if this will be helpful. I haven't tried foam rolling, but I have tried using a massage gun. I use it whenever I feel a cramp coming up or when my muscles are fatigued. I can say it helps with relieving that fatigued/cramped feeling. My mom also uses it and says it also works for her. I can see a massage gun being handy if you don't have the time/energy to move around with a foam roller. Though when it comes to relaxing tight muscles (like a tight IT band), I can't tell. I have no solid comparison between the two yet.
Hello. I am also working on foam rolling because I do strength training 3 times a week. Foam rolling ensures a good recovery of the muscles. I have a burning question! I'm asking you a question because I might think "too much" is bad for your muscles? so.. what is normal how many times a week recommended?
Thank you for this informative video Joe! I`ve been following you on IG for a while and just found you on UA-cam as well! I sure am subscribing ;) Keep it up man!!
Hi Joe, thx from Spain for this excellent video. I have just one question. I am going to start using foam roller because I am a runner (marathons) and some people tell me that is correcto to use it after a running training session but others the contrary, I mean, it is much better to use before you run. What do u think? Thx again from the sunny and lovely SPain.
It's better to try and do both. Stretching helps prevent the muscle from getting tight after a workout, foam rolling after weight training is great for massaging the muscle to help break down lactic acid that builds up from working out :)
@@howiseetheworld3581 Best to do both. I do foam rolling AND dynamic stretching before a workoutout. I've heard it's bad to do static stretching before a workout
I am new to foam rolling! (But I do own one 😬) this all felt awesome! Do you recommend doing this routine on off days, or before/after a workout? How often do you foam roll? TIA!
I would say all the above. Foam rolling works great before and after working out and it's great for maintenance on off days. I would say it's more effective than stretching
Shin splints are fluid swelling due to micro fractures in your shin bone. Don't think foam rolling would help for that. Nothing beats good ole fashioned rest
@@fleadoggreen9062 no problem, I remember developing them in both shins when I started playing basketball again in my late 20s. I had a propensity to lean forward in any athletic movements due to weak core and posterior chain. Puts lots of stress on knees and shins.

Doing the exercises with seeing the picture of the muscle gives so much more clarity!!

I’ve been an up and down roller for a long time; this video opened my eyes to the “cross fiber” method, and my calves responded so well!! Thank you!!

Can you expand on why we should be doing foam rolling and what benefits we can expect to see? Thanks for the great video!
It decrease the soreness of muscles and increase blood flow make your mody more strechy and remove pain the muscles pain doing after doing the exercise of gym etc hope you well know why we should use foam roller :)
You mentioned 4 different techniques for calf, should all of them be done at the same time or should one of them be preferred?
Great info Joe!!!!
Will this help with skin recovery after weight loss?

how much time do i spend in each muscle ?
Thank you
Also I have seen many videos were ppl say you shouldn't foam roll the lower back, should we roll it or not?
How many minutes should we do for each muscle group?
LOVE THIS!! 👆🏿🔥❤👏🏿

I have a second question :
Do i foamroll instead of stretching after my weighttraining or as an addition ?
Thank you 😊

Good video. But it should be longer, doing both sides of the body. More of a follow along full practice.
Nah. Left leg goes same as right leg *mirrored.
