The photo was proven to be a hoax, but the design is still referenced in popular media, such as the UFO power-up in Kirby games, the playable character of Part-Time UFO, who is named Jobski (see what I mean?), and the G1 toy for Cosmos. I dont think I ever wouldve thought such a sweet boy like Cosmos would leave me with such a bitter outlook on a hobby such as toy collecting. The distribution of this guy was so needlessly ridiculous. I refuse to give a red cent to scalpers, and the official routes all turn up dry. My local Wal-mart have NEVER gotten any stock

more accurately for both Override and Cosmos, they figured out how to use the retooling budget to make entirely new figures, primarily by reducing the mold count. Cosmos used 3 molds compared to the usual 6-7 molds for Deluxes, while Override had 4 molds compared to the usual 9-10 molds for Voyagers

Once again, though, I have to point out that despite my complete lack of knowledge of (or, honestly, even care for) Transformers (beyond growing up on Beast Wars) your videos have never once failed to entertain me. I love the “it has the poump” callback from Bumblebee Brouhaha 2! And Cosmos is very neat, very much the Lakitu to the Speedia 500, even in the little manga! Fun fact: the racers first highlighted in the first page of the manga are Road Rocket, Blurr, Burn Out with her human partner Dia, and.....Hauler, for some reason. Yes, they chose to have the crane truck in a competition of speed. Oh, and Scourge and Override and Clampdown are there too. A thought on the flag: as funny as the “surrender” flag can be, iirc in racing the plain white flag is used to signal the final lap, the checkered signaling the finish itself. Either the designers thought of that and made a two-sided flag, or they were just saving paint.
Iirc in the Hasbro stream where the line was revealed they said Hauler was the recovery crane and not a participant in the race....which still doesn't explain Scourge lol

Lakitu is exactly what I thought of. He just needs a fishing pole with a 5mm side post on the handle for his vehicle mode. Still, he is a fun, cute little guy.

As a big fan of the mini bots especially huffer,beachcomber and pipes,gears and cosmos,I'm glad to see them getting new figures,I really love volecitron cosmos,it's such a great mold,I really want a new gobot out of this mold,plus I like how this figure is getting a lot of attention,there's even some pepole who customized volecitron cosmos with ss86 coronation starscream cape and crown
You used the warbly space sound effect from the Transformers the Movie book on tape! That sound is pure nostalgia for me. It was used in an episode Super Sentai I was watching a while back and had the same sending me back to being 6 years old effect. Cosmos is neat. I get a little worried about how tight the clearance is for folding up that backpack but other than that he's basically an essential figure in the Legacy line.

I'm so happy I can watch this review with my own Cosmos standing next to me, because normaly I get the rare figures late or not at all. And it's always nice to hear Thew talk with joy about a figure you own and like, too.
The Velocitron line takes a lot of inspiration from the Tread & Circuits comic. That's why we got Road Rocket, Override and Road Hauler. Cosmos however never appeared, instead the race being started by Signal Lancer. Of which if this Cosmos, which could've been in Legacy, denied us a Signal Lancer then i'll be annoyed...
It's the other way around. Toys develop before the comics are written, thus the Velocitron characters featuring throughout. There's a reason everyone appears in essentially their toy form-the toys, although not necessarily the final versions, were used as reference material for the artist

Finally got my hands on Cosmos. The situation in Australia has been dire. I went to every Kmart I could. I had my agents check Kmarts in 2 other states. Nothing. But I went to a local collector fair gathering event thing last weekend, and a chap there had a bunch he'd imported all the way from the UK. Paid almost double retail, but still a good forty bucks less than anything on eBay. Through all the trials and tribulations, I am just glad to finally have the sweetest roundest boi

It's not like Optimus just WAS a truck or the seekers just WERE F-15s when they reactivated. Sure, season 2 was flooded with new characters who were just suddenly THERE with no proper introduction, but an explanation of where Cosmos got his inexplicable saucer mode wouldn't be unwelcome. (Just tell us it's Cybertronian and Cosmos never got the chance to scan anything, we'd believe it.) I guess they gotta give the flag to SOMEONE in this racing line, but your designating him as their Lakitu? Brilliant. lol
And I'm looking at your nails wondering if you did a blue nail to match Cosmos blue chest and or eyes. But I still hear that wave of colourful Thew worthsmithery.

Little piece of trivia. "Velocitron Speedia 500" is named after the Cybertronian colony world, Velocitron, where everything is determined by racing. Elections, taxes, etc. The people of Velocitron live and die by racing.

Excellent review as always! Thank you! Yeah, I'm with you on the opinion that his UFO-mode cylinder is a bit too tall in proportion to the rest of him. I mean, yeah, he's meant to be a physics-bending interstellar craft that doesn't have to worry about gravity or ærodynamics -- or a cute toy thereof -- but I think it just messes up the æsthetics of the thing. I'll stick with my Titans Return version and let other people have a chance at the one I would've bought, had he not looked like one of Han Solo's magnetic mines from the Endor shield bunker raid. I just got to use the letter Ash twice in one sentence! Huzzah!
That’s it, I’m buying 2 of these and wearing them as a bra to TFNation. Jokes aside, the toy photography in this is so lush it’s genuinely won me over into maybe tracking him down, and I love when you futz with the usual format of the episode and do a special theme.
I have the Magic Square Cosmos figure but even still, I want this one too because one can never have enough Cosmos in their life. Now if only I could actually find him for less than triple his retail price.

Personally given how hard he was to find in stores around here, I'm glad I was ok with my Thrilling 30 Cosmos representing him in my collection. Plus I like the sleeker saucer mode and his targetmaster.
I just want a Titan class Cosmos - an Ark-sized toy in which you can store several smaller figures. There could also be a kidnapped human and mysterious "alien body probe" accessory for comedy purposes. Y'know, like a "real" UFO.
Cosmos was always a favorite. This incarnation seems to have a near perfect (or as perfect as I can expect) bot mode, but that UFO mode... that IS about ~10% too tall. But I can live with a small hitch like that if the bot mode looks lovely (and he does). Gotta hunt this guy down now. ;)
What would it take to convince Hasbro/Takara to do a Transformers Micro-Change line, where the story is that the toys are 1:1 scale and transform into tiny robots instead of giant ones? Or, a meta-series in the vein of Small Soldiers where AI-driven Transformer toys turn out to be sentient and go on adventures with their humans?

My favorite moment in the g1 cartoon is in the episode Sea Change where Cosmos gets shot and goes Oh my paint job! and then passes out

Excellent review as always! Thank you! Yeah, I'm with you on the opinion that his UFO-mode cylinder is a bit too tall in proportion to the rest of him. I mean, yeah, he's meant to be a physics-bending interstellar craft that doesn't have to worry about gravity or ærodynamics -- or a cute toy thereof -- but I think it just messes up the æsthetics of the thing. I'll stick with my Titans Return version and let other people have a chance at the one I would've bought, had he not looked like one of Han Solo's magnetic mines from the Endor shield bunker raid.

That’s it, I’m buying 2 of these and wearing them as a bra to TFNation. Jokes aside, the toy photography in this is so lush it’s genuinely won me over into maybe tracking him down, and I love when you futz with the usual format of the episode and do a special theme.
I love Cosmos, but this new one just doesn't beat the last one we got. I ADORE that thing, even if the head is a faff to get out of the saucer mode.

Personally given how hard he was to find in stores around here, I'm glad I was ok with my Thrilling 30 Cosmos representing him in my collection. Plus I like the sleeker saucer mode and his targetmaster.
I feel bad for Cosmos. He's easily one of my favorite characters.

Cosmos was always a favorite. This incarnation seems to have a near perfect (or as perfect as I can expect) bot mode, but that UFO mode... that IS about ~10% too tall. But I can live with a small hitch like that if the bot mode looks lovely (and he does). Gotta hunt this guy down now. ;)

What would it take to convince Hasbro/Takara to do a Transformers Micro-Change line, where the story is that the toys are 1:1 scale and transform into tiny robots instead of giant ones? Or, a meta-series in the vein of Small Soldiers where AI-driven Transformer toys turn out to be sentient and go on adventures with their humans?
I should look into whatever the Botbots storyline was!
