  • This is my DIY Kitchen makeover. I've never painted a kitchen before. I started off painting my island first to learn the process before moving onto the main kitchen. I hope this video can help others, give encouragement and insight. I'm far from being a professional painter, just a regular guy doing regular things.
    Here are some of the products I used to redo my Kitchen Island:
    Paint: Benjamin Moore Advance Satin - Kendall Charcoal HC-166
    Primer: Bulleyes 1-2-3
    Sandpaper: 120 Grit, 220 Grit, 320 Grit
    Sprayer: Wagner Flexico 3000
    Overall, I'm pleased with how the island turned out. The Wagner airless sprayer was definitely a time saver. The detail finisher attachment did a good job. There is a very slight texture on the finish but the surface did came out great compare to a roller or a brush. It was learning process/trial and error using an airless sprayer for the first time but the end result exceeded my expectation. For the main kitchen, I'll probably use a different sprayer, maybe a Graco, that can switch out the tips, example 209 or 210 FF (fine finish) spray tips. I want to test it out and try to get it as smooth as possible for a DIYer.
    Total cost was around $315 which includes the paint, primer, sprayer, sandpaper, plastic cloth, microfiber cloth, goof off(degreaser), brush and roller.
    Total hours was around 28 hrs of work in a span of 5 days:
    Day 1: Degreased, cleaned and sanded. Removed all the cabinet door, drawers. Prepped the kitchen and garage with plastic drop cloth for primer/paint.
    Day 2: Primer the kitchen island, cabinets and drawer. Waited for it to dry and sanded with 220/320 grit sandpaper.
    You can probably do Day 1 and 2 together to save a whole day. I wanted to take my time and take it slowly.
    Day 3: First and Second coat of paint went on the island and the backside of the cabinet/drawers.
    Day 4: First and Second coat of paint went on the frontside of the cabinet/drawers.
    Day 5: Installed everything
    I honestly think it turned out better than expected. I hope to do the rest of the kitchen in white. Thanks for watching. Please smash the like button if this was helpful and comment below, I would love to hear your thoughts.

      Yo Anthony! Appreciate it! I ain't gonna lie, as my first time painting kitchen cabs, I was a little nervous 😅 Hopefully this video helps others get the courage to DIY. I just bought a new sprayer for the main cabs, 🤞 those come out even smoother 🤞 I post the progress on my Instagram.

      @SpendingJar  3 роки тому

      @@Popcornbeetle yes, I painted the kitchen cabinet white to go with the theme. I didn't make a video on it but if you check out my Instagram @spendingjar I have pictures on there. Also did my fireplace which is also on my IG.
      Wish I made video on both 🤦‍♂️

    Did you do two coats or three? Did you primer and sand between coats ? Thanks

    • @SpendingJar
      @SpendingJar  27 днів тому +1

      @mindyabiznesspeople hey! It's been a long time since I did this project, but if I remember correctly; I did primer, sanded, and applied two coats. Hope this helps.
      I just recently used the same paint code for my office and it turned out great. It's a great color.

    It looks vey neat and clean! I am thinking about doing so, but Is the paint smell strong after finish?

    • @SpendingJar
      @SpendingJar  3 роки тому +1

      Hi and thank you! It definitely takes a lot of prep but the end result was worth it. It has its usual paint smell but not too strong. It was bearable, no dizziness or headache. I did of course, left the kitchen windows open for a few days.
      Hope this helps and thanks again for checking out my video.

    Did this consume a lot of paint? Looking to paint some cabinets hopefully a gallon will do

    • @SpendingJar
      @SpendingJar  3 роки тому +1

      Hey thanks for checking out my video. I believed I used 2 gallons of paint. It depends on how big your cabinets are and if you plan to spray or roll. I was spraying so it uses more paint than rolling. Hope this helps.

    • @inkman411
      @inkman411 3 роки тому +1

      @@SpendingJar thanks for the reply, did you think the paint or just use from can ? I’m thinking of the graco vsp or the Wagner sprayer

    • @SpendingJar
      @SpendingJar  3 роки тому +1

      @@inkman411 I didn't want to paint by brush or roll since I wanted the smoothest looking surface as possible. I decided to spray from the beginning using the Wagner in the video. I ended up upgrading to a graco magnum X5 with graco FFLP310 tip for the rest of the kitchen. In my humble opinion, prepping your cabinets is very important to have the best results.

    • @inkman411
      @inkman411 3 роки тому +1
