What you call a digger is what I have admired you for. Being a gardener instead of wracking the tops off of everything with a strimmer. Great job, great to see you again!
36:45 nice and neat!! This is my favorite part of your channel. Gardening. Love that you name the plants. I would have broken a sweat after the first 10 mins. But I do persevere 😂
The roots of the plants 🌱 were very long & thick. Over 30yrs ago I did quite a bit of digging in my family’s garden 🪴. Oh my goodness I said to my dad, the length of the roots of Coltsfoot. 😮💨 We’d 🍓 & I used to make a lovely dessert 🍮 after our Sunday 🍽️. I built a wee rockery 🪨 for myself. The local 🐈 🐈⬛ ❤️ the catmint, loads of it. 👍🏻 job Alex
I really enjoy when you go into detail of what the plants are.and how you go about deciding what is weed or nuisance plants.impressive as always you do one hell of a job.just continue doing your thing.great video 😎😎😎👍👍👍
Love this garden. Always feel like your work nourishes the garden, rather then trying to strim it in to shape. Beautiful. P.S. I am a plain sausage biscuit and coffee with cream. Yum.
You always do a beautiful job of cleaning up those beds. It's perfection. This is always my favorite garden. The roots on some of those weeds are crazy. It looked cold and windy there. I hope you get a little more sunshine in the days to come. Have a nice weekend. ❤
I totally agree with your definition of what a weed is! I only grow plants that are not aggressive spreaders or multipliers, you are a true gardener, hands on and not afraid to get down and hand til the soil to get rid of the "bad" plants.
I have to chuckle each time you mention clay soil as I live in Georgia in the U.S. and struggle with hard, red clay dirt. Can't call it soil...just plain dirt. I need to dig and divide my iris but keep putting it off as I know the struggle it's going to be. Wish me luck!
So good to see you again. Ex Bucks girl here, well about 40 years ago! Now near Colchester so heavy clay here. My nemesis is wood avens in the front garden and Spanish bluebells and ivy in the back! Love you’re definition of weeds so true
"A weed is anything you don't want in your garden"...im in the midwestern US and have such fantastic soil, it grows everything. Love the meticulous work!
Hi Alex, 😉 Going for Breakfast at McDonalds, Always Good To Eat before Working!!😋 While You Were Pulling Out the Bad Long Rooted Weeds @ 17:38 by Accident You Pulled Out a Flower, but Found the 2nd One!! Yes I Love that You Dug Up All the Weeds To Get All the Weeds Around the Flowers & Trees!! I Did that 2 Days Back & My neighbor`s Sons Said Out Loud, I guess she -Me that I don`t Own a Weed Wacker, I Do, But I Like to get the Weed Roots Around My Flowers!! So You have Done a Marvelous Job Here!!💯💖 Take Care & have a Lovely Weekend Alex & Family!!😎❤ Love Barb from Central Illinois USA❣
Hi, I really like what you've done with the channel. Of course we'll all miss Gary, but I like this new format, very educational and informative and soothing to watch. 😊
Always good to see you, Alex. And good info on clearing/ cleaning up overgrowth, I’ve got some similar chores to do now that we might get some dry weather up north! I really like it when you give useful info in your videos; one of the best videos I’ve seen was when you gave advice on how to prune rose bushes. Anyhow, take care!
Alex this is a beautiful garden and you keep it looking great. I like the Egg cheese sausage McMuffin in summer I get ice coffee and in winter regular hot coffee. Thank you and keep cracking lol. 🙏🏼🌹🌟😊
That looks great! Nothing more satisfying than getting down on your hands and knees and digging out weeds. BUT I loathe weed mat (or liner or whatever). I always think of the sterile soil underneath and the weeds still come through, especially if you have to deal with Kikuyu and couch grasses like we do in Aus.
Alex, I am seeing more gardeners here in the USA going away from weed barrier, placing bark directly on the soil and using weed preventer granules only. With them saying barrier it is not good for overall soil health and long term practicality. What’s your thoughts? I am originally from the UK so I always enjoy your vids and content, thanks for sharing all your stuff.
Celandine is an issue I have in my garden and I have clay soil so it’s a case of lumps of clay in the bin! Otherwise the other struggle is getting into my own garden instead of my clients something I bet you understand the struggle with 😊👍🏻
Loving the videos ....nice tips as always ! Doing a similar garden reno (as a novice) and always learning lots from the vids! Would love a link to the tools you use each vid Also, any recommendations on a durable pair of thorn proof gloves?
A few times I have had mushrooms growing in my mulch, have you ever had that happen? Always enjoy the end results of your work, problem is you make it look to easy 😊
McDonald's... I like their decaf coffee or Coke and I only have fries/chips from there. Mickey D's has the best fries/chips in my humble opinion. ha. I love that garden! The beauty of that garden proves just how good you are at what you do. 😊
One thing I get is nettles, celandine, ground elder, brambles but without a doubt the worst is hairy bittercress and Willowherb, you weed one day and the next more appears.
One of the gardens i work in has creeping ground elder and 3 cornered leek. Nightmare but i just keep pulling it out and the client in the hope we can keep it controlled. One of my other gardens has calendine and we let it grow as early nectar but then when the garden gets growing late spring i dig out whatever is in my way to reduce it back.
An important episode. The Calandine is spreading rapidly in lower Michigan woodlands chocking out native plants prompting an effort to combat the invasive plant. Despite its threats, the plant is legal to buy and sell in Michigan. So a small group of advocates is pushing for regulations, while urging gardeners to be alert. And you know how some gardeners are. 🙄 Thanks again and say hi to Gary if you have the chance.
Ground elder is a nightmare, we have it and it’s nearly impossible to get rid of permanently. It will grow back from the tiniest piece of root left behind!
Look at those roots!! That's a nightmare!! In my garden we struggle with stinging nettles. As spring arrives...they are all over, tall new ones every year (coming from the parcel behind us). Those are so easy to clean but...all the beds around are full, the center is free. Obviously it took us years to get rid of the brambles and Ivy, we maybe find little ones here and there but easy to clean. But yes...kind of 45 years of work one year after the other...
There's a lot more moaning and grunting noises while you're alone. 🤣🤣 Too funny! I didn't realize that you used mulch. I thought you only did soil and compost. I always use mulch because I have horrendous clay soil. Now I don't feel guilty for using it! 😅
Celendine ground elder and nettles, new ground digging out is the only way, leave a little bit of root and it will come back have been fighting it for 5years now.
I've got violets rampaging in the front garden and a purple flower in the back that goes all through the lawn, can't remember it's name but it creeps everywhere. Clay soil here so it's so hard to weed.
Hi Alex McDonald’s pit stop once in awhile is a good shout I’m a sausage egg McMuffin kinda guy or tho the breakfast raps are ok 😂 Lovely work as always bro Have a great weekend mate 💚😎☀️🙌🏼
What you call a digger is what I have admired you for. Being a gardener instead of wracking the tops off of everything with a strimmer. Great job, great to see you again!
Thank you 🙏 x x
👍 He is a "Gardner"!! The real thing! I've learned a lot watching him even though I'm across the pond. Enjoy his channel very much.
Definitely the true definition of weeds, I enjoy your channel because I learn good info…have a good week my friend!
36:45 nice and neat!! This is my favorite part of your channel. Gardening. Love that you name the plants.
I would have broken a sweat after the first 10 mins. But I do persevere 😂
The garden is looking good you are doing well on your own and like others am missing the banter between you and Gary
The roots of the plants 🌱 were very long & thick. Over 30yrs ago I did quite a bit of digging in my family’s garden 🪴. I could watch you do this approach to weed control for hours. Great job.
I miss all the giggling.😂 I love that you weed properly.
I miss the giggling . I will definitely get gaz back for a one off one day 😀
💚You do true gardening, so relaxing and always satisfying, with thought for the future of the garden💚

Thanks Alex it was lovely to watch someone do real gardening, love to see weeds being pulled up. It looks fabulous now great job.
What a beautiful garden! It’s October and I’m getting excited about Spring and working in my front yard!😊
Love this garden. Always feel like your work nourishes the garden, rather then trying to strim it in to shape. Beautiful. P.S. I am a plain sausage biscuit and coffee with cream. Yum.

The clay makes it so hard to weed. I've put some soil improver in to try and help. You can bag it up yourself at Dean's nursery near Elmstead Market.
It certainly does! Am gradually adding well rotted manure and compost to the ares I’m digging

PG Tips Great job proper gardening I did weeding this week as well . Nice to get out before the rain again 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Haha 😛 the bloody rain in the uk none stop 🛑. Hope your well
A weed is a misplaced flower😊 I like your definition too
Good to see weeding done properly. I always cringe when I see people just pulling from the top and leaving the roots. Great work 💎
Nice job! It looks beautiful! From Virginia, USA
Je mets des copeaux de bois entre mes fleurs ou arbustes, et je n'ai quasiment jamais besoin de désherber... Mais je suis admiratif de votre travail.
Thank for a great show Alex..
Thanks for watching!!
Looks a lot better. Good job!
Good job there Alex, Them Aztec choisya's look stunning. I do like a fresh bark mulch on the beds, makes it look fresh. 👍
Thank you for the video, and the lovely time in the garden.
Looks great!!
Good to see you, miss Gary, but I'm sure you will do fine. If you talk to him say hi. Have a good day.😊

Excellent job again ❤😂🎉
Looks really lovely, another great job, I love that garden ❤❤
I have an invader, looks like a large moss, takes a lot to stay on top of it. I can appreciate all the work you're putting in removing that weed. 👍
Great video and its refreshing to watch someone who knows their plants. I have lots of sticky willy in my garden 😂
Thanks for watching!🤣 😀
Looks great
Well done Alex 👍👍👍
Nice job.
Sausage biscuit or mcmuffin, never, ever, ever egg. There's those gorgeous English gardens you tend so well.

Brilliant Job 🙌
Thank you! Cheers!
Beautiful garden.

Looks very nice.😊

My garden nemesis is creeping Charlie. At times ivy growing thru my lily of the valley. I use your method of eradication; pulling it by hand.

That soil looks so rich and moist. I have red clay. I’ve added bags of topsoil but it will never look like this.
A few times I have had mushrooms growing in my mulch, have you ever had that happen? Always enjoy the end results of your work, problem is you make it look to easy 😊
I don't eat McDonalds. What a beautiful garden.

Great job! I have a bit of an odd question.... While gardening .. have you come across any relics? or odd finds? thank you!
The odd cassette and some bones, nothing too exciting!!
😊

Absolutely dry them bags are 27kg, but damp or wet they are way more like you say.
Don’t miss Gary you’re doing great alone😅😊
Been trying for 10 yes to get rid of that weed with trailing roots. That and English ivy are vile. 😂
Yeh English Ivey can’t stand the stuff unless it’s on a fire haha

My biggest issue with a privat growing over my side fence trying to trimming it back but can only reach so far it gets up to over 10m
What do you do with a flower bed that is mostly shale?
What is the little tree that looks like yellow green fans, that is where you laid the weed material?
Full moon maple acer 👍
What is Gaz doing now?
Hi my love my garden lawn is more dandelions than grass what can I do. Tried weedkiller to no avail
Interesting what weed killer did you use ?
