Hey @timthelawnmowerman carthic needs a turf &tools shirt for the pod cast your holding out on him 😆 love your stuff i watch every episode on both channels onya .mate
Hi Tim, The Makita 64v mower has one big downside. The 4ah and 10ah batteries take a long time to charge. If I remember correctly, the website says $699 10ah takes 300 minutes to charge. But it has slightly faster self propel and 3.2kw output. The 64v system has only 1 tool being this mower. I got the Makita XGT 40v lawn/garden tools. The smaller 480mm lawn mower 1.9kw, split shaft powerhead with extension/pole saw/articulating hedge trimmer and small guard line trimmer with OEM speed feed type head. Have dual and single chargers. Two 5ah and two 8ah 40v batteries. From 0 to 100%. The 5ah takes 50 minutes to charge. The 8ah takes 76 minutes. The lever clamping mechanism on the XGT powerhead is superior to the wingnut clamping systems. Rock solid connection. The only annoying part is the tool has a power button which i like. But, the tool turns off in 2 seconds of the safety/trigger not being pressed. My work around, i use occasionally, is a Velcro strap on the safety button. The articulating hedge trimmer attachment is very heavy but works exceptionally well. The throttle trigger doesn't feel heavy to me after 4 hours of whipper snipping. Very smooth and little to no vibration. Aunty has the 36v Ryobi. Good top speed cutting but poor low speed performance. The mower has tackled really thick tall Kikuyu that my Dad's 140cc Rover Scott Bonnar Greenkeeper/MX4000, would stall after 2 feet distance. Self propel makes a huge difference when tackling overgrown lawns. Can push through where i can't or struggle to do it manually. I agree with everything in your review. Also the mower handles fold twice so its no longer than the deck. Great, so i can fit mower in back of car. I can just manage to lift XGT mower in boot without batteries. With batteries its a real struggle. Tried lifting the relatively small petrol mower but its way heavier than XGT with batteries. XGT sits slightly higher in the rear. This allows the front facing blade to do the cutting work. Less load on the motor. I know you like the Makita mower with the high capacity back pack battery. I was half interested when buying but there is no XGT mower version to go with it. Just the original LXT hardware version. I put 2.4mm Makita trimmer line (made in France) in the line trimmer head. Soaked in water first. So much better than the 2.7mm line i was using from Bunnings. Cleared the side of grandfather's house of weeds, Kikuyu and vines on brick paving. Went through less than half the line of other brand. The line and XGT powerhead strimmer has plenty of torque and speed to rip through runners. Speed 2 is your go to for most scenarios. Speed 3 for brush cutting/tough stuff. The XGT Blower works well but its my least favourite. When the nozzles face downward the tool is balanced well enough. If you face them up it thrusts battery hard into arm. Cruise control works well but i hardly use it. Functions well, just not ergonomic in your hands after a few minutes. Hard to hold steady with smooth throttle control. That's my take anyway. The backpack version would be easier on the wrists. I can and have left XGT batteries on charger for days (unintentionally) without issue. Charger knows when to charge. It will cool a hot battery before it starts charging. Happy to lend you my Makita XGT gear if it helps with your review/Testing. About 15 minutes away from you in Quakers Hill near Farnham Rd shops. Glad too see your Milwaukee mower lives to fight another day. Below is the EGO Commercial mower your are referring to. egopowerplus.com/commercial-22-inch-aluminum-deck-lmx5300sp/
I use ryobi battery gear for my ndis clients and aged care clients. Ndis love it as they are not scared of it. To make it work all day I have my batteries and a bluetti power station in my ute just hooked up to the cigarette lighter. When I use a battery I just charge it by the end of the day I'm charging all of them but it works fine. Every now and then I buy a pack of batteries with the cash I've saved from fuel. So I'm not using them all every day. I'll get a couple 6 port superchargers soon so I can leave them on all day cos that is what the instructions say you can do and I'll get a solar panel on the roof of my canopy to keep the power station charged.
For lighter work the lower speed is fine in the AEG, but high speed in heavy work means you'll get through the battery quickly, hence the reason to be using the 8Ah battery. It all gets a little heavier too though & why I bought the 18V Line Trimmer for grass edging etc. The reality is, the more batteries you have, the better. I wish there was a tool for the line trimmer head to feed the line it, because the early head held more line & had finger holes to grip the knob much better.
I know this discussion was earlier this year, but AEG have had this same attachment connection for at least eight years & several years before with their Ryobi range, so I doubt much is going to change any time soon for that mount, unfortunately.
I would walk around the shops with a Tim the Lawn Mower shirt! Love the podcast blokes, keep up the good work. Currently just bought the Ozito battery cylinder mower to try out. Would love if you did a turf and tools episode on it as well!
Good discussion on the higher price to buy commercial battery gear compared to petrol. Carthic mentioned that the $1200 difference would take a long time to make up but when you break it down, $10/day in the petrol gear means it will only take 120 days to break even. Even less if you consider that it doesn't require servicing and replacement of parts like air filters, oil, spark plugs, primer bulbs, etc.
probably bought battery gear too early as a contractor with the Makita 18v 5 amp range, blower ok will last 3-5 lawns, 18v x 2 weed eater lucky to edge 2 small lawns, mower 18v x 2, 4 battery compartment, just too slow self-propelled, hedge trimmer has very good battery life, to have a system too charge on the go was at a cost of 2.5k NZ so ended adding 4 more batteries total now of 13 to get through most of a day, on the plus side no pull starts very little maintenance, lighter, 5 x rapid chargers
Still not happy with battery for commercial use trimmers. Runtime a major issue as you said. Would like to hear your thoughts on current 4 stroke trimmers/combi if any still exist. Not keen on price increase for the 2 stroke oil since I'm already on 4 stroke with an old makita trimmer and blower. Absolute beast of a thing and I thrash it regularly but they dumped the whole petrol line for the battery stuff that I just don't want to touch. At 13 or so years old it'll die on me eventually.
Recently bought an AEG 58v Line Trimmer. It does pretty well in the backyard but tested it out on some heavier stuff today and had the attachment rotate 180 degrees. Definitely a little annoying. As another commenter said, a spline to prevent rotation and more penetration of the attachment into the power unit to prevent the flex would be better.
Aeg do have a dual charger! Also the 18v has a 6 battery charger I dont use 58v i have the 18v mower and line trimmer. Which havent let me down once and does what i need them to do. The promotions atm you end up with 6 batteries which is awesome.
The website does not show any dual or more port chargers for the 58v. Multiple for 18v but not the 58. www.aegpowertools.com.au/outdoor/products/list/category/outdoor-batteries-chargers
Will you get another masport battery as a long term tester ? Since you already have the masport contractor Its the one i have my eye on as it mows low for couch and been very happy with the bunnings masport , Maybe carthic can review it on his couch lawn How about some of the other masport battery gear?
I can't believe the AEG connection wasn't designed with a spline and sufficient penetration to prevent slop. Also, any trigger that you're constantly aware of while using the tool is too hard.
Great video 🫡🇺🇸

I like the new setup, it looks a lot more comfortable than the Storhub garage.

Hi Tim, are you able to get your hands on the Makita battery mowers that have the 4 swing back blades?
Another very informative podcast guys, well done. Look forward to your shirts when they are available.
Much appreciated!
Zdravím vás Pánové! Ať jste s průběhem podcastu spokojeni! 👍👋
Cheers!

26:00 be great if plastics are recyclable on mowers

Their (TTI) Milwaukee design is more like that & I wish AEG had gone better than their Ryobi design in that regard.
G'day Tim, what time during the vlog days do you normally release your vlogs on UA-cam?
I thought you were going to discuss the line in whipper snippers. They’re so frustrating as it breaks so easily. I’ve tried several brands.

@turfandtools my apologies
I swear I saw a dual charger at bunning that said 58v foe aeg.
My mistake must have been for something else.
It's a dual charging four port 58v
@@wpilat1981 where is the link to it?
@@turfandtools They used to have a 4 port 58V charger. A shame it isn't available now.
Yep i was wondering where the merch was recently
Lawn detailer
Free mow fridays
Obsessive lawnie tshirt
Stubbie holders
Who wouldnt want one ?
Cheers mate
Can we ask questions and can you show budget items. Line trimmers.. etc.. cheers
Absolutely to both 🙌 I might do a live stream of it of Instagram or tiktok so we can get live questions.

Is Tim moving house?
Unfortunately not. Agreed on price but the seller has unrealistic settlement conditions
