    Thank you my friend
I wasn't sure how deep to set the second bushing and had pushed it all the way in blocking the drain holes
Then corrected it after I watched your video

Brilliant! Just what I was searching for as I received my renovation kit in the mail the other day. Very instructive. Thanks for sharing.
One point: in the instruction leaflet for the impeller, Volvo Penta recommends the supplied glycerine for greasing the impeller and nothing else. I know that people, including myself, have been using all kinds of lubrication stuff, e.g. simple vaseline. Does it really matter what to use as long as it is lubrication, one wonders...?

I'm pleased the video was useful. My repair kit nor the impeller came with any grease so I used the waterproof silicone grease I had already. It seems to be fine.

Hi Peter thanks for making this I did the same repair on my md2b but the water seal keeps working itself out of place and then the pump leaks have you had this problem ?
    Thanks

No I haven't. Theses seals were a really tight fit and I didn't put any lubrication on, they went in dry.

Hi Peter. Nice video. Just had a question after I noticed one of your posts on another website. Did you find out if a Volvo Penta RB gearbox will fit on to a MD1B engine? Thanks for your help.

Hi Mat. I didn't pursue that, I eventually tracked down the 120 x 10mm oil seal for my MS gearbox and managed to replace it to stop the oil leak. It was a difficult job though.

great video. I have 2 questions . How are you supposed to swap the impeller here. Do you have to dissasemble the pump each time? Mine has a slot so i can pull it out. Second i am noticing the shaft fit to the NEW seals but its not really tight. In can be rather easily fitted in. Also when on the boat the shaft could be easily pulled out. Not sure if this is correct.

Yes you can just pull the shaft out of the pump to chnage the impller without taking the pump off the boat. You must be very careful when putting it back though because it's easy to nick the edge of the seals with the end of the shaft, so put plenty of grease on the end of the shaft and try to put it back in the pump as staight as you can. The shaft should be a firm fit in new seals. If you've greased the shaft end and the seals it may feel a bit loose but as long as the seals are sound and there are no grooves in the shaft they will be water/oil tight.

@@noskanow thanks. YEs i have seen proposals to tap on the shaft to get it free from the seal or put it in the freezer, so i am far from needing this. just with some grease it goes. But seems this is the concept if the shaft has to be removed.

Nice description, Peter. Is there a chance to share the P/N of the repair kit? My VP Dealer in GER struggles with this. THX, Joachim

Hello Joachim. I don't have a part number I'm afraid. I just Googled 'Volvo Penta MD1B Water Pump Repair Kit' and got pages of them all over the place including European suppliers on Ebay and luckily one of my local marine parts suppliers which is where I got the kit from. You shouldn't have a problem getting the kit from a European supplier.

@@noskanow Hi Peter, thanks for your immediate reply. I saw such but probably was too careful.
