I had to change my impeller today in 30 knot winds. I figured it out, and I’m not a mechanic. I used the cable tie trick as well, and felt good about myself to see the same trick being used on this video. Great video.
Great video. I wish any boat that I've owned had an impeller that was that accessible! And I wish every boat builder made oil and fuel filters easily accessible for service.
Yeah, we were lucky with this one, that’s why we made the video. Here’s a thought for you, when I built race cars we re routed the oil filters from the front of the engine to the side so when impacted it didn’t snap off. It’s easy to use one of the motorsport re routing kits to put the filters somewhere sensible. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/273991883223?mkevt=1&mkcid=1&mkrid=710-53481-19255-0&campid=5338766898&toolid=20006&customid=9837d712b9f037475ace4b216d4b8114&_trkparms=ispr%3D1&amdata=enc%3A16V2bw4nwTnewjxsxzvwOXA30&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAApeD5GVsXiKcLh4K7UYOmkRfDiQaM
I completely agree to re-route a couple filters etc. I’ve done it in the past… but I’m working with a current and premium fresh water wakesurf boat that I’m probably moving out of a model soon. But I’m a maintenance guy and I super annoyed that manufacturers zero-fs about easy access for routine maintenance. 11:41 Remote oil filter, easy access to oil filter, accessible spin off fuel filter. Impeller and easy zincs replacement if needed. Comon manufacturers…. It should be way easier than you make it.
@DirkJacobsz Dirk! Thanks! What a fab comment to wake up too! Yeah, the Ultra is awesome. Shame the price tag is awesome too… We took it off and packaged it up to send it back to Ultra when we sold our boat😔 The new owners loved it so much that they bought it back and it’s now back on the boat again. We’re onto something new now, still boats of course, we’re soon to start building something new, I can say one thing, it’s hard to think of putting anything other on the front than an Ultra!
Well, it may end up being a replacement. The thing here if you try to fix it you may win or end up worse, but really it can’t stay the way it is. If it were me I would get too smoothing out the rough spots with sandpaper as you suggested. You can take away all of the high spots where the impeller rubs and possibly even the smaller low spots, this should help a lot. Regardless of what you do, I think it’s important to see what’s going on with your sea water strainer as it sounds like it’s not been doing it’s job properly.
How about lightly honing it like an engine cylinder . I’m not saying I’ve done it just floating an idea that I’d consider trying if I had your situation
Hey!! Thanks for your comment. I won’t let Chris live it down 😉 Couldn’t help but clock your name… not sure if you know about our boat project kicking off but we are building our own lead keel for an aluminium boat we’re building to be 100% fuelled by nature! And we are still on the hunt for the lead…. So I thought it’d be daft not to ask if you had any ideas on this with a name like that 😜🤞🏼
I installed the impeller housing after summarizing and now I hear a grinding sound and the belts don't spin... I've taken it apart 2 times now and the same result. Any ideas of why?
The belts don’t spin… Ok, so it sounds like you have taken the impeller hosing off and it’s drive mechanism? It most likely that the drive gear wasn’t aligned when you re fitted it. Do you have any pictures? If so send them to info@sail-hub.com and I will try yo help. Cheers, Chris

Haha! Well done fella! That would be a mission!! ⚠️
It looks easier than I thought - I would never have attempted it. I will now - thanks
Amazing! Pleased to hear it! Save you a bit each season doing it yourself! 👊🏼
Chris... you're the boat whisperer hehe
You've got to love this Channel !! Keep these videos coming : )

@house3249 hey, your dammed right. What’s wrong with theses manufacturers… oh yeah, profit profit profit. But what a pain in the arse to work on!
Good job sir.
Thanks! 👍😀
Great explanation!
Great to hear this, thanks Murray!
Fitting my first one tomorrow love the cable tie trick Cheers Man 😁
Sweet, let me know how you get on!
Cheers and good luck! 👍
How did you get on then?
All sorted thanks to your video. It took about an hour to get the old impeller out and fit the new one. The cable tie trick is brilliant 👌
@KarlMannion-ey5er nice! I’m so pleased to hear this!👍😀
Great video.
Hey! Thanks👍
good video mate
Thanks! Hopefully helpful for some fellow sailors out there! 👊🏼
Great thanks
No, thank you for commenting! it’s what keeps us going!!👍

My pump is pumping like crap, it DOES have some GROOVES (front to back) in the housing, how do i fix those? Sand paper???

@drizler that sounds great, only it’s not circular. I’m not sure how you would get the honing tool to manage the flat?
This guy is the Steven Hawking of impellers.
😆

@@SailHub I just sent you a picture of my housing. Thanks bro!
@@SailHub I didn't have the support bracket in place! I think that's the problem. I will put it back on.
@NinoThePrez ok, good luck!
@@SailHub I think it is seized.. Nothing spinning...What do you think?
Thank you + Tax 😊
Our pleasure 👍
