    I am discovering your videos now, James. I am a New Yorker that has left the state. My husband and I relocated elsewhere. We are very happy where we live now, but we can never, ever put New York on the backburner! We were born in NYC and lived there all of our lives until we retired. Our home was in Rego Park, Queens but were always all over the place. Astoria was one of the areas we would visit regularly. We have eaten at the Bel Aire Diner many times and walked along all those streets in Astoria, as well as streets in other boroughs. I am happy that you have found your oasis. Wishing you all the best.

    i miss Astoria so much 😢 i lived all over nyc but Astoria was my favorite little neighborhood. its a greek neighborhood but was also diverse with different cultures too. you had greek, colombian, peruvian, thai, vietnamese, mexican, italian, middle eastern, indian, and other restaurants to choose from when i lived there back in 2013. shopping for groceries was the best there because not only was there a regular grocery markets, you had an organic market, meat, seafood, bread, fruit and veggie, and cheese markets too. my favorite place to grab a bite was the popular gyro stand that stood on 32nd street and broadway. it was the best! when i go back to visit nyc, im heading there just for the gyro lol! if it is still there. 🤞

    Looks like a fun day! Currently in the Bronx, but love coming to hang out in Astoria (hoping to do my first move there sometime soon, with any luck--enjoyed your last apartment tour too!); a friend lives near the Bel-Aire and I've been meaning to try it myself, lol. I've been going to the NYC Bagel Coffeehouse stores lately which also have tasty coffee/food, but the CoffeeCloud looks interesting (also love the Coffee Spot iirc on Steinway). Have yet to go to Socrates Park much so I'll have to do that, but Astoria Park is also lovely, especially at sunset.
    Also, that Amsterdam marathon sounds like a huge undertaking, but I'm sure you'll do fine :)

      Thanks! Yeah, they're are plenty of great spots in Astoria and they're so many I still haven't tried yet like that place you mentioned on Steinway. I'll have to check it out sometime. Best of luck with the potential move. Astoria is a great place to live!

    Hey Jim, thanks for the wonderful and insightful videos. Hey - can you do a video about Hoboken and Weehawken on your next trip?? I'd love to learn more about the Jersey side of things, which usually get ignored by most tourists. But there are so many hidden gems and great eateries on the Jersey side. Not to mention the affordability of these joints. Anyways keep up the great work my friend. I'd love to learn more about Park Slope as well, so hope you do a Part Two'er on that one for sure. Thanks!

    • @Jamesnu

    If you are interested in The French Connection there are several interviews on UA-cam in which William Friedkin talks about all the aspects of the making of that movie. Most surprising to me is that all the exteriors were shot guerilla-style without any permits. I get the sense that filmmaking, at least cinematography, might be a field that you would like to pursue on some level.

      @@Jamesnu we had a question about the gyro you ate. Are those the same fries in it, as the ones you ate for your side? Or seasoning different

    • @Jamesnu
      @Jamesnu  2 роки тому +2

      @@thecrimedog8424 Yep, they're the same style of fries that I had as a side with the same seasonings. All of the food from the truck does have a lot of oregano on it, which I really enjoy, but it doesn't provide one with the freshest breath and I always have to consume a mint or two afterwards. It's worth it though!
