Is Greg Greek-American? His pronunciation of Greek dishes is spot on... Also, I'm very impressed and jealous of the horta salad right now.. I live in France so I might be closer to my home country but I haven't seen horta anywhere, not even once, neither in farmers' markets nor in restaurant menus... sigh! It's one of the things I miss as an expat.
He is Greek American!
My wife is Greek and we're missing our annual holiday back to Thessaloniki this year... to go to New York instead! Need to visit some of these places so we don't miss out! 🇬🇷
Great idea!!
I’ve lived in Astoria, best Greek food 😀 outside of Greece
Honestly I can never find Horta or aginares at Greek restaurants it’s so nice to see people can see what we commonly eat at home!!
Greg! Queens legend
Nothing like Greek food...the best 👌👌👌🇬🇷💙
Nothing is as delicious to me as fabulously roasted lemony Greek potatoes. I adore a fabulous chicken souvlaki and a lovely Greek salad with extra feta cheese. This is bliss and some lovely wine!!
1st love your videos. Hello from Austria
Thanks
I can't walk down Steinway without grabbing a Souvlaki at Frankie's
Nice video highlighting some of my favorite Greek places in Astoria. I have lived in Astoria since 1963 so I have just about tried every eating place there. Love Bahari!
:)
Oh my gosh the spinach pie and the Bougatsa...I felt like I could smell it thru the screen!!!!
my work here is over haha
Had a great time being a part of this - sharing the food of my heritage + the neighborhood I grew up in! 🇬🇷🇬🇷
Thanks for the kind words about the tour! Hope to see you guys on one sometime soon
Our first video in 2+ years! Glad you're back in NYC now, more food content to come. Let's get it.
😁
Seriously thinking we need to stay in Queens for our next NYC trip. So much good food in Queens.
That's an idea
That cappuccino….it broke my heart
I concur with Mr. Clean's review of Bahari Restaurant 😁
Hahah good catch
Nicely done as always Jon. Yea, nobody can hold a candle to Astoria when it comes to authentic Greek cuisine. Being from Bayside, I do miss these wonderful cuisines. Keep up the good work. Send my best to Adriana. Look forward to the next video. Your friend Mike.
Right on!
How am I so happy that John and Greg are together again??? I’m so excited about this video!! I was so concerned while Greg and Jumi were gone for what felt like forever, but you’re back and these awesome videos are returning!!!!! Continuing my TO DO ( TO EAT) list for when I get back to NYC!! Thank you for this!!!
Greg will be very active on the channel this summer.
Do a fan meetup soon!
I'm from Greece by the way 🇬🇷🇬🇷🇬🇷🇬🇷Greece love America 🇬🇷❤️🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
A few minutes from me in long island city
Right there.
Another awesome vid HBB!! In even better news, I'm lined up for one of Greg's FaF tours in about 8 days on my next NYC trip :-)
Nice!!!
Awesome video! Glad to see you enjoying Greek food again and the freddo cappuccino 😀
Yes 🙌🏼 hope you’re having a busy summer
I love that you visited Astoria. What a wonderful neighborhood that is. You did not visit Omonia Cafe though 😢
Great collab... definitely going to reach out to Greg next time in NYC. 👏🏼👏🏼
In Florida it’s tarpon springs that’s heavily Greek. The city never really really forgot it’s heritage. Greek divers sponge dived for a long time but the business didn’t really work so they switched to fishing and huge tarpon are still jumping out of the water to this day. You see a scene right out of a coastal Greek town a lot. Old men fixing nets, women going to do shopping. Kids running around. Exactly the same as any Greek fishing town just you hear English not Greek but sometimes you hear bits of Greek especially in random arguments around town. You can get great Greek food in the restaurants around town and they do the flaming cheese which you don’t see much of anymore. I know as one restaurant actually set off a sprinkler doing this and a torrent of water just landed right on the wait staff and put out the fire soaking the place destroying the dish. Some restaurants there actually allow you to break plates for fun. It’s kinda neat they still do it that way.
Very nice! That artichoke dish had me drooling! I live in Auburndale, and I believe it's the second biggest Greek community in Queens behind Astoria. A lot of great places over here as well!
hi we love your videos my husband and I are travelling next week from down under (AUS) to new york staying in financial district weve learnt so much from your videos thats helped us prepare for our trip thank you hope you keep them going :)
Always loved amazing Greek food, another great vid pal.
Great video as always.
Thumbs up !
It was heartening to hear you pronounce gyro like the people from the Greek community in my town do. I was in NYC in December, and had stopped at a deli in Williamsburg. I asked for a gyro and the guys behind the counter made fun of me, telling me it’s pronounced “jiiiiro” (and in gyroscope)
Haha
Yes I am feeling so hungry now. Delicious food looked 😋 👌
Thank you 😋
Jon I know that Chicago's Greektown has great food, but now I need to try New York's Greek food to compare and contrast which is better.
Love your content man! keep it up
Greek culture is awesome and they are very nice people...I am lucky to have had Greek friends in my lifetime.
Awesome Video Nicely done.
it all looks fantastic
Great stuff really enjoyed this
Quality video again Jon. No one does a NYC food video like you. I am off to Greece on Tuesday so it was quite ironic this was the next video. NYC really does have such a diverse selection of cuisines that suit all cultures. Just like London. The Greeks in NYC can definitely get a taste of home. Didn’t realise after Melbourne New York had second highest Greek community. Some nice spots. Good work.
watch your videos every time leading up to NYC. Ill be out there at the end of this month. So excited to try your recommendations again
Great video, amazing tips and dishes! Astoria, we will visit you in July!! 😀😀
Alright! Not sure about cappuccino but all Greeks I know drink frappe :) Great start though but got to do seafood next either Taverna Kyclades (only tried Ditmars but sure other 2 good too) or Psari (used to be called Greek captain). With Psari have long history where used to be cash only one page menu and always full. One of my friends distant relatives used to run Psari and one of my friends used the go there just for soup. I used to like fish or octopus. And for desert need to try galaktoboureka - from bakery better…
I trust your picks!
Thank you for the Queens food tour! Keep it up!
Going to have to take the wife to check :)
:) Thanks for stopping by Mark.
I love seeing two channels I love intersect!
@@katieh1752 thanks Katie
@@HereBeBarr those lamb kebabs looked gooooood
Spanakopitas are amazing! I have had those at one of the food court places Opa Of Greece in the mall. As usual, I'm watching this close to supper time. Time for me to go cook some food.
Hi, Awesome vlogs!
I need trying greek resaurant in MILANO for sure ;)....another good video and a good collaboration!!
Can't wait to try all this!
Let’s go Tasos!
What a treat this was! Bring on the veggies.
Another great "best" video.
I lived in Astoria 1994-2003. Loved the Greek restaurants! Being celiac, I missed a lot of good pastries & pies. When I could afford it, I bought feta imported from Thessalonika, so it was interesting to learn about bougatsa.
Gaga approved!
Watching your videos from overseas. It was a bad idea to watch this at 2am but whatever. Keep it up! Absolutely love your content.
That last stop seemed more up my alley though
Good to see you back in the greatest neighborhood in nyc.
I just got back traveling Turkey and they have a very similar bread/bagel called simit
Making me feel very hungry. Visiting nyc in September, can’t wait to visit Astoria x
Astoria is a great neighborhood for food and culture.
Coming to NYC soon so will check some out. Thanks John. Love to support small business. Atb matey
Thank you very much for this video. You are very handsome and very talented ❤️
Food tours are the best. Food brings all people together.
Love Franky's. One of my favorite food trucks.
I'm totally into learning more about Astoria, because after seeing the hotel prices there, I dont think I'll stay in the City again
Check the rental prices in comparison too haha
My first and favorite shishkabob was found outside Herald Square Macy's, when I took the train up to Christmas shop, went out 3x for some. Needless to say, I only bought food in NYC, I went to Philadelphia suburbs to actually shop.
@ 7:15 that's the deal, the plate with different sauces... fully awesome PS I know it's sometimes street food in the big city but ALWAYS seems better having a seat IMO
Taramosalata
My absolute favorite
Great food!
What's up Frank! Miss ya, brother!
A really fun video, and it's nice to see places like To Laiko getting some love (I used to live a block away), but definitely not the best reviewed Greek restaurants in Astoria. Otherwise it'd be all about Taverna Kylades, Stamatis, Ovelia, and BZ Grill - to name a few. (To Laiko has like 11 reviews on Google, versus Taverna Kylades 3,300+ reviews. Just sayin'!) Still enjoyed it though, thanks!
Those lamb sticks look so delicious
Very nice video. 😊 "To Laiko" actually means something like "The Traditional", but the Greek tradition. "Laiko" is also a music genre with bouzouki, baglamas etc.
Also, in Greece we have an even more crunchy spanakopita with or without cheese/feta.
I'm from Greece and I love your videos so I wanted to help you learn something from our tradition.😊😁♥️
nexti time put some lemon juice to the semolina cake(halva)and taste it
I like your videos! Did you make a video on french restaurants ? 🇨🇵
If not, can you do that in the futur?! 😀
Please do a video at Brennan and Carr in Brooklyn!
Love your content Jon, the best New York UA-cam channel
We did! See my Brooklyn sandwich video
Awesome!
I am sure the Greek restaurants in New York are good, but if you try the food in Athens, you'll see the difference, and all over Greece, there is no comparison ❤🇬🇷
It’s all Greek to me! 😂
I agree Queens!
Good Sunday Afternoon Jon
IAM Hoping That You Are Having A Lovely Day I Was Saying That IAM Coming Back To New York And Where's The Greek Restaurant Located @
As Always Thank You So Much For Sharing This Extraordinary Video With All Of Us Much Blessings And Love Always Ms British Gray From Tampa Florida :)
Thanks!!
Never a Greek food getter but after your video you have made me hungry
Bill in Fort Wayne Indiana
I generally don’t trust places with 19 reviews on Google and a 4.9 star average. I think they’re often/usually fake reviews.
Think I’ve been to Frankie’s. Very good.
Bahari is great too, though very loud inside. I love how he turned the side of greens into a side of olive oil with a sprinkling of greens.
And agree about Queens being the best borough for food!
Thankfully, I had a nice huge plate of raw veggies in front of me when watching this, because I usually get So dang hungry watching your food tours (and end up doing some Serious damage to my diet!)…although I switched my dip from Ranch to Tzaziki since it seemed appropriate
Haha imagine filming it.. and then editing it (Ben luckily edited this one). It's hard not to get hungry.
Did you did best Polish food restaurants in New York City?
Not yet I
Love Greek food. We have some great spots in Detroit
I had a Greek landlord in Pennsylvania where there wasn't a strong Greek presence except 2 doors down from his office, I wouldn't put it past him to be their best customer.
I love me some spanakopita!
When you going to Staten Island???
I want to do a pizza video there.
@@HereBeBarr or you can do one of your “richest neighborhoods in NYC you never heard of” in Todt Hill.
you have to do the best reviewed Turkish Restaurants in Brooklyn next!
How has he said lamb souvlaki is hard to find. In greece pretty much every resteraunt sells it 😂
i CAN'T run there, I ate too much. lol ty for great vid of my hometown :)
Glad you enjoyed
Can you do more greek food videos pleasee
Barr, do you do Keto too? Would be great if you featured an episode on great places to eat on Keto!
i tried it a few times, but w this lifestyle can't sustain it.
Yummy 🤤
It was!
What day did you go? Is the food truck there every day?
lol you look like a young quentin tarantino sometimes
One thing I miss about Greece. The plethora of sidewalk local pastry shops and restaurants. Literally on every corner in every neighborhood.
Just such a different vibe from the mall and chain restaurant culture we have here in the US.
And the hospitality is just completely different also. Not uncommon for a spot to let you use its restroom or it’s WiFi if needed etc.
Try walking into a place here just to use the restroom! Lol
I love Greek food, I love Moussaka, got Moussaka to go at what was supposed to be an authentic Greek restaurant in Maryland, when I got home I was so disappointed they had put tomato sauce all over the top of it, never heard of that, cause of the tomato sauce it didn't even taste like moussaka, I've been eating moussaka for years at all kinds of places never had it with tomato sauce Boo
Moussaka is my favorite 🤩 but yeah accept no imitation
Hope we see videos of other foods in nyc, Malaysian, Pakistani, central Asian, west African, Arab/middle eastern. Can’t believe you made a video about Cuban food in Miami but not Cuban good here.
Recently he made Cuban food eating in times square
Why not suvlaki pork? Dont they like it? Hello from Greece.
Hi Here, thank you for this video, it is great. You look great. I am sorry for being so familiar, you are very handsome. Gintarė Maksimovaitė
The funny thing is we Greeks don't eat that much lamb! 🤣
ASTORIA SEAFOOD
what's with the lamb? you guy's don't have pork in NYC
horda :'D hahahahhahaha
in greek means grass-greens :)
行って食べたいわ🇬🇷
