In his defence, I didnt see a sign saying a junction was coming up, but the other riders were riding cautiously and had no problems, which is what he should have been doing. I hope he had a long hard talk with himself after this potential end of life mistake!
If we're riding to what you can see NOW - rather than what we HOPE to see in a moment - we shouldn't need signs. The fact that we DO have them shows that many riders and drivers aren't riding the road that they can see. I'll be honest and admit I've made the odd mistake like this in the past... and as you say, it's not something to repeat if we want to enjoy riding for any length of time.
