I don't know why, but the story of Lorraine's Dad in a bottle brought a little tear to my eye. What a sweet idea that Dad is continuing his journey, thanks to Lorraine and thanks to you. The pieces of history you find aren't the only treasures here on your Tideline Art channel. Good on you Nicola! Bon voyage Dad!
Hello Nicole, Today I walked along the Rhine with my wife and dog and thought about what you would find here. As a gold panner, my eye is used to seeing completely different things, and metal detecting works differently than mudlarking in my eyes. So if you feel like taking a trip to Germany, you are cordially invited to come and see me. From prospecting for gold to metal detecting to mudlarking, you can do everything here. Your idea of taking the ashes to California was great and brought me to tears. Me too, thanks for that.
Love these simplest of larks...you, the river, the wildlife, the finds, the music, the roundup, and Squirrel. Who could ask for more? I liked the Indian coin from 1944, the year I was born. Fortunately, I haven't been floating around in the River Thames for 78 years. Maybe someday. Thank you. So enjoyable.
Such a treat for me to find that you posted a video today. I must admit that I have been checking for a new video daily since your last installment of the Adventures of Nicola White. This one made my day! You are so thoughtful to continue Lorraine's dad's journey and sharing it with us. Not a surprise to those of us who follow you, mind you, but so nice to follow someone who is so endearingly nice in this day and age. Please keep the videos coming. You are a lifeline to me. I am hoping that February will be a good month, as I was born on Valentines Day so many years ago. I selfishly hope that you post a video sometime around the 14th to make my birthday special. LOL. I love to see the mute swans on the Thames and your relationship with them. We have a breeding pair in our local park, with a few of their offspring. When my granddaughter was 2 years old, I was horrified and charmed by a video that my daughter sent me of Olivia actually hugging a swan that good-naturedly went along with her plans. I had heard stories about how absolutely strong and territorial swans can be, but Livs is apparently a swan charmer along with being a grandma charmer. Keep the content coming and cheers from Gallipolis Ohio.
Hi Kathy. Thank you for your kind comment. How lovely to have your birthday on Valentines Day. I shall try to post a video as close to that day as possible! what day is 14th Feb this year? Much Love, Nicola xx
@@nicolawhitemudlark Valentines Day is officially on a Tuesday this year. When I was a kid it seemed magical...I ALWAYS scored the biggest candy heart and birthday presents to boot. Ha ha. But by the time I was an adult I found that trying to celebrate your birthday on the same day the whole world is celebrating love is a little trying. Usually my hubby organizes a restaurant trip the weekend before or after because the restaurants are literally teeming with folks declaring their undying love. Last year found him outside in February grilling me a perfectly prepared steak so maybe again this year. I liked that dinner the best of all.
Thank you for another thoughtfully and personally produced video. So many curious and fun finds and it filled my heart with joy to watch as you helped Lorraine’s dad on his continued journey. I hope the next person to find the bottle is as kind and thoughtful. It is nice to witness such kindness and to know humanity still connects us in this big, giant world. I can’t wait to see where you’ll take us next and what cool little pieces of our past, and present, we might discover together. Happy hunting❤
Great story about the message in the bottle! It was so sweet of you to contact his daughter and make her day about relaunching the bottle! My mother died a year ago, and my siblings and I are taking her ashes back to our home in Hawaii to be buried with my father, who is buried in the Veterans Memorial Cemetery on Oahu in August. Blessings!!
I love your channel but am especially touched by Lorraine's message in a bottle. I lost my dad last year and love what she did for her dad, one final hurrah!
What a lovely video and a beautiful act of kindness , it brought a tear to the eye when I saw Lorraine’s reply! Keep up the good work, I know it takes a lot of effort to make good videos.
You are fortunate to have people show you their Morel hunting grounds, most mushroom hunters are very secretive. Here in Wisconsin our Morel season only lasts a few weeks so you have to get after it when the Sun and temperatures are right. Decent rainfall in the Spring is crucial to a good Morel harvest and they are by far my favorite mushroom to hunt. Great vid Nicola keep em coming.

Thank you for the great follow-up on the message in a bottle. I lost my father 5 years ago and so I know how much this meant to Lorraine that you sent her father's ashes on!!!🥰🥰🥰
I understand the woman setting her father's ashes adrift. My college roommate passed away 10 years ago. He was the lead guitarist in our college rock band in the 1970s, so I carry his ashes in my guitar case. As I travel to places we frequented as young men, I will leave a tiny amount of ash behind. Hello Nicola, my wife and I love your channel. In one of your videos, you showed part of an item that had a lever, and a semi-circular gadget attached, I don't know if anyone has told you, but this was probably an early 20th-century electricity meter cover. You put a sixpence in the meter, then turned the lever which would push the semi-circle over the coin to stop people from cheating the electricity board. Keep up the good work,
I luv all of your videos Nicola but this one is so touching thank u for being u also luv the romantic thought that those metal straps may have originally had a sentiment tucked inside.
I've got two of those tiny aeroplanes. One has a pin on the back to make it into a brooch, the other one has no pin. But is obviously meant to be a Spitfire. My dad was an RAF officer in the war, but not a pilot, and these were made by RAF prisoners of war, in prison camps mostly from odd bits of metal, even old coins, and Dad bought a few that were being sold to make money for widows sand orphans immediately after the war.
Started watching Nicola's vids a bit prior to lock downs - 4+ years later, still looking forward to new segments :) Admittedly, at first didn't understand why pottery & broken bits of tiles/ceramics/crockery etc. were of interest (what value, when broken into multiple pieces?); thank you Nicola, I now have a respect for social anthropology. Discovering the twists & turns of (then) contemporary communities, represented thru research, opens the imagination in traveling back in time. I also recognize the evolution in Nicola's presentations, utilizing & learning from early videos into what are now well-produced informative sessions. Of particular interest is 'real-time' comparison(s); found items shown in situ, with inset of same items after cleaning - very useful in comparison, as well as "how the hell was that found!?" when compared to mud & rock surrounding :)
I’m sitting😊 here and I get so excited every time you pick something up. Imagine if you dug deeper I wonder what you would find. Imagine all the stuff you haven’t seen yet. To pickup history like that is absolutely amazing. Wow if I could be young again and lived in uk I would do that. I love it.
I very much enjoyed Lorraine's Dad's journey and of course your thoughtful, generous role, Nicola. Yes, the pottery piece does resemble a Louis Wain. Benedict Cumberbatch portrayed him in the lovely and ever so heartbreaking movie " The Electrical Life of Louis Wain" A brilliant performance 😪 Nicola, we love your videos, never miss one but(ashamed to say) rarely comment. It's wonderful that you Nicola found the bottle & it was meant to be !!! That was so sweet & loving of you to take him with you to CA & put him back in the water to continue his journey 😊 !!! It brought tears to my eyes & I too have a little urine with some of my mom's ashes & my sister has one too with mom's ashes !!! Thanks Nicola for this beautiful story !!! Squirrel was so cute when you offered her a second peanut & she secured it better in her mouth & reached up with her little paws & took the second peanut 🥜 from you !!! So precious 💕 !!! ❤️🙂

Raining here, no housepainting, went to 'Ewa, found a Mid-Century marble, used my new steel probe. Found some small foundations dated 1925. Started to get wet, so came home. The holed coin looked vaguely British Indian. Working on being able to dig town side. My favourite token I've dug is a Pantheon Saloon, Good for 1 draught Enterprise beet Jim Dodd Agent, Honolulu. Enterprise was a Bay area brewer. Japanese teacups of 1885-1985? Are often painted with soothing quaint rural scenes, cloth type patterns.

Hi Nicola. The story of Lorraine's Dad's ashes is fabulous; well done, and if you're looking for a real challenge, we could search far and wide for the best and cheapest pint of beer in the country! 🎶 The intro music seems especially enjoyable, much appreciated 👍
You are a gem 🥰 Ginny from New Hampshire USA
When my dad died in Australia I kept a little of his ashes and brought them back to Scotland….but I put the rest in Morton bay near Brisbane…….. I thought that then he could go where ever he wanted…. So it was lovey to see Lorraine’s dad travelling away beyond San Francisco 😊
Oh what a lovely thing to do! xx
Wow. Talk about putting a smile on someone's face. It's a great thing you did.

I absolutely love the story about you finding Lorraine's bottle with a note & her father's ashes (some) in it & her sending him on a journey to see how far he gets !!! ❤️🙂
Very cool of you to send lorraines dad on more of a journey 👍😁
Bon Voyage, Lorraine's Dad!! How special!!!
That was so cool about finding her dad’s bottle!!! And you emailing her on her dad’s 1year he’s been gone. You were meant to find it. Amen 🙏. I love your channel and I just love everything about you. You are so down to earth 🌍 and always upbeat and ready to find great things buried in the mud. I’ll be there on your next big adventure. 🤗💜stay safe 🤗
What a touching update on Lorraine’s dad and his continued journey
Raining here, no housepainting, went to 'Ewa, found a Mid-Century marble, used my new steel probe. Found some small foundations dated 1925. Started to get wet, so came home. The holed coin looked vaguely British Indian. Working on being able to dig town side. My favourite token I've dug is a Pantheon Saloon, Good for 1 draught Enterprise beet Jim Dodd Agent, Honolulu. Enterprise was a Bay area brewer. Japanese teacups of 1885-1985? Are often painted with soothing quaint rural scenes, cloth type patterns.
The score to your videos are always so expressive, Nicola.
I love watching your videos and the finds you make in the river Thames. Such a rich host of history you share with us. Thank you so much for sharing your finds with us.
Regrettably I am disabled and unable to travel now so I enjoy watching you outside mudlarking. I look forward to watching your next video. Please take care and stay safe.
What perfect timing God uses our gifts to fill an empty spot in the heart of another. What an honor and blessing for you. Thanks for sharing.

What a wonderfully lovely thing you've done by continuing Lorraine's father's journey. I know this must have really made her day. Especially the timing of your e-mail. It's very rewarding to see people doing small kindnesses for others. Well done you!
Oh, belated hello from SF. I just discovered a ceramics dump in the East Bay. I go there all the time with my dog and never looked over the berm and down next to the water. Who knew?
Thank you for bringing joy and kindness to the internet. It’s so needed

I look forward to your videos every Sunday, but this week was even more special with the message in the bottle. How wonderful that you were able to take Lorraine's father to San Francisco! And it was a squirrel episode, my day was made!

What a great story of Lorraine’s Dad’s ashes. So touching. ❤
Awesome little plane, great ‘eyes find’ for a non-detectorist! It was pretty small🇬🇧😊👍
This Video brought back memories of my father (died Januar 16 2020) and my grandfather (died Januar 16 1959) Safe journey for Lorraines dad 🚂✈🛳
Lovely video especially the swan just what I need as I am in bed with a earache and sore throat.
I really look forward to watching your videos you never know what you will find.
So exciting 😁
Hello from Canada thanks for all the videos and giving a shout out to a Canadian UA-cam channel. We love wild mushrooms.
Hi Nicola. The story of Lorraine's Dad's ashes is fabulous; well done, and if you're looking for a real challenge, we could search far and wide for the best and cheapest pint of beer in the country! But the pound coin you found. No, that's not old, it's the "new money". I'm, seventy-three and I think I have socks older than that! Thanks again for a wonderful show!
Perfect timing! 🕊️
Hi Nicola you have a heart of gold. Id like to say also that when you find something, you often forget to check what is left around your find. Today I saw very interesting objects that you missed. If only I could of told you! Maybe you will find them next time.
Such an incredible story! You’re amazing! Thanks!
That was a beautiful swan and duck!
Wonderful video Nicola, so glad for Lorraine and her dad's ashes. Looking forward to checking out the Northern Wild Harvest channel, thank you! Glad to see Squirrel too!
Thanks Debbie! x
