This area is very rich with beautiful birds all year! I love to share photos and videos because I feel so fortunate to have them all visit my yard regularly!
yes but unfortunately we've had terrible bird flu outbreaks for years now. despite that the news pretends bird flu only pops up every so often, it's always there. and it's bad. seabirds both north and south american have been decimated. the news only reports on bird flu when it enters the food system but it's always in wild bird populations and nobody is out there vaccinating birds and helping birds, theyre just dying. and many countries dont even report on it, only Western countries bother to sent scientists out to the field to do counts.
and as for China they infamously deliberately destroyed their birds through communist policies. "In 1958 Mao Zedong ordered all the sparrows to be killed because they ate too much grain. This caused one of the worst environmental disasters in history" manmade habitat loss. He thought it would boost productivity by boosting the food supply because people were starving and dying, thus lost productivity. It didn't work out.
Cracks me up that the Robin is arguing yet still bathing like he's telling the Cardinal, "This is my bathtub and I'm gonna keep using it!" "You wanna try stopping me??"Bring it!" 😂
I have a few pairs or cardinals that come to my feeder and I have heard the sparrows raise the alarm about feral cats and hawks before, but I have never heard the cardinals make that kind of noise! I guess it's good that no one has hassled them. They're my favorite native visitors.
I hear them at the platform feeder when they are fussing at each other in the evenings! There are usually several of them that come to eat before dark, males and females, and many of them make similar sounds, just not to the level that this guy is making them!! That's the only reason I knew they make this or similar sounds! I love having the cameras!

Because of the chain restaurant 'Red Robin' I used to think cardinals were robins for the longest time. I thought robins were red! Robins would sometimes walk up to within a few feet of me, seeming to be curious. Once, I heard and saw about 5-6 of them screeching and chasing a hawk that looked to have caught something (I'm guessing another robin).
