I'd like to hear some actual FM conversations, through a good antenna with good SWR. Does FM really work, how well and what are the benefits and draw backs to it. Range, noise, etc. How about a good in-depth comparison. People are talking about FM on UA-cam but so far I haven't heard any real transmission/reception tests.
They really do make some awesome radios. The only issue I have is when I am talking in a normal voice I only manage to get 45% modulation, and even the roger beep only hits 45% and some of the models don't have any place to adjust it. The Thomas FCC for on. I don't have a power mic wired for it to see if it would help with the modulation or not. I guess I will have to get a mic adapter so I can try it out. It's a shame because the McKinley has an adjustment, and when adjusted properly the stock mic sounds great. I am not sold on FM yet but not many people around here use it.

For now if you like CB as we have in the states have known it for years now I'd say an older or current am/ssb radio will be fine for a good while
No, there are many many am cb users.
@@SDS-1 10-4 good buddy! (Sorry, couldn't resist) 😄Thanks!
@@FarpointFarms thanks 👍
I'd like to hear some actual FM conversations, through a good antenna with good SWR. Does FM really work, how well and what are the benefits and draw backs to it. Range, noise, etc. How about a good in-depth comparison. People are talking about FM on UA-cam but so far I haven't heard any real transmission/reception tests.
I've done one! Look back at my other reviews to see a side by side AM vs FM comparison.
What would you recommend for a good home antenna?
Antron a99. Perfect for cb.
@@FarpointFarms Thank You. I will try that.
I've never really had that issue. I'll look into it.
If this has ssb I’d buy it today
Still a great radio for 99% of the time.
does that radio do side band??
No.
Do u have a link to buy this?
I believe that it will be available soon- keep checking back to see when you can get it
nice features but I don't think they need the weather. also waiting for a SSB model.
It's nice to have, and I do find myself listing in from time to time when traveling.
I live in a 5 floor apartment complex I'm thinking about getting me this mobile radio as well get a good power supply n a mag mobile antenna to uses in side
Living on the higher level could help with reception-
I'd love to have a president McKinley with am fm and side band
Hang on!
Does it have ssb?
No.
Add SSB and it's a done deal.
Stay tuned.
These are £180 here in the uk 🇬🇧
Way too much for the extras on this rig that personally I won’t use.
Good video though!👍
Fair enough! I hope you can find one that works well for you
@@FarpointFarms Thanks for the reply.
I have the President Barry2 which is still just under the £100 mark and, of course a President McKinley which have gone up in price since I bought mine about 2 years ago for£140 to nearly £300!
I’m glad I got mine when I did!
All the best.
73s
John.
ps. Keep the video’s coming!😄🇬🇧
the cb is still a lov=cal talk mode its not for long range communications
Well... Yes and no. For local comms, it's the best, but you can talk long range with skip.
Every CB should have scan skip if only to avoid Mudduck and the Superbowl.
ha, you might be right on that one
Such a shame it doesn’t have SSB.
Ssb is hardly used beyond the power user. Something like 97% of radios sold in the USA did not come with ssb mode.
I wonder what President are going to do when they run out of presidents names?
Add a 2 after them?
I'd introduce cheaper, stripped down models named after vice presidents. 🤣
I still don't see the point in having ch 9 for emergencies only.... I mean, no one's listening to ch9 because it's for emergencies only.. So if you have an emergency, you tune to ch9 and no one's there...
At least in maritime radio the emergency channel (16) is for emergencies AND hailing. So everyone listens to 16 at all times, and if you want to contact someone, you just say "Hey you, this is me, let's go to channel ___." That way if you DO have an emergency, there will be people listening.
It was great in the 70s, but you are right 9 isa ghost town.
