That Cherry Sunburst looks gorgeous.
I really like the Gold.
It is gorgeous I own one myself
It is breautyfull have one (the honey sunburst), but to get the clean sounding nice he needs to split the coils
Especially for $59! 😅
Epiphone won me, im getting one this year.
I just ordered the cherry sunburst
"Someone's gonna want that purple." That would be me then. Bought the purple one
They’ve nailed the entire new range. Very impressed with what I’ve seen so far.
Two best moments: When Ryan discovers the push/pull and when he flips to Rhythm and remembers he killed the volume.
New headstock shape gets the thumbs up from me 👍
I got the worn gold a couple months back and I love it! Epiphone has seriously stepped their game up
Damn, even as the owner of two Gibsons... These are tempting. I've owned three epiphones in the past and currently only own one, they're good guitars - but these look like a cut above! So happy to see Gibson expanding more into the medium-grade professional ranges I'd hoped they would. Regardless of the name on the headstock what you're looking at is Gibsons direct equivalent to Fenders Mexican range, now that the update has occurred, I'd say.
I love what they're doing with Epiphone. This is great.
$499, great sound. Epiphone has knocked it out of the park this year. I see me getting one of these. No problem. Love the cherryburst. Sounds awesome.
Thanks for this video, bought an Epiphone ES-339 and have been so happy with it, best guitar I've ever owned. Will be buying one of these LP Classics for a friend in 2 months, been looking for demos and this one is definitely a winner.
I'm so happy. With Covid I bought one online, unable to go to the shop and try one. I have 30 days to try and return if unhappy, but after this review I think I'll be happy with my purchase. Thanks for trying one out for me.
I got the ebony worn series and cannot believe how much I like the neck. A quick setup and this guitar is practically flawless
These Epiphones look awesome, can't wait to try one out!
That first goldtop with zebras looked/sounded amazing.
These guitars sound great! Even the clean sounds.
Yep, Yep, Yep!!! I am sold on that Headstock!!!!
I agree with you. The new headstock is a game changer. Just bought a worn goldtop.
I've just bought the cherry burst classic. Cant wait for it to arrive!!
Me too !
Epiphone and Gibson by proxi were the 2020 NAMM winners. The New 50's and 600's Standards alone may have gotten them my vote, but the headstock modification was a nice bonus.
I got the worn ebony classic, and I've got to say, it sounds killer with my Marshall code 50, love the pickups.
I like how the camera is very close to the guitar as you talk and demo the guitar - best shots of the actual guitars I've seen from the channels covering NAMM 2020.
thanks! ive worked hard to develop a rig that allows me to cover NAMM in a useful way. In reality i dont even feel like its actual 'namm coverage', its just and excuse to film myself playing a lot of guitars, lol.
@@60CycleHumcast Well, it's certainly appreciated - getting out there and showing us the guitars. Did you get any footage of the Epiphone Moderns? Those are the light weight ones that are trying to copy the Les Paul Moderns, but given crazy names like Cafe Latte burst, or Caribbean burst, etc.
gurtana I didn’t :-( I honestly should have spent a day filming all the epiphones
I might be the only person who doesn’t dislike the old Epiphone headstock. I’ve got a couple of them and I do wish the electronics were better, but I’ve never said to myself, “Dang! I wish that headstock was different!”
Same. I just wish the bikini headstock was more prevalent
I like their headstock. I got a couple of them and I happy. But I love the Gibson headstock too.
I'm happy with all Epi headstocks, the old Japanese ones (a la Gibson) the old Kalamazoo one, the old one and this one 2020. THey're great!
I also liked the old Epiphone headstock. The so called new headstock isn't new at all it's the original Kalamazoo headstock Epiphone had years ago
Honestly I didn't notice a difference until I saw people talking about it. Last thing I worry about when purchasing a guitar is wether or not the headstock is new or old school. Do the tuners hold tune is much more of priority imo.
I like the previous headstock also
Epi does it GOOD! I am actually impressed! Nice 1 Ry!
The Honeyburst is in my near future. Great review! Thanks!
Love honey burst!!
I also like the head-stock. It's about time. I had a Honey-burst and hated the cut corners. I just got a Gibson LP Tribute, and now I'm sold on the Epiphone. I might get one now. I love it.
OMG ITS THE OPEN BOOK OMG
The headstock is definitely a great change, I didnt even notice it, its so natural. The old headstock was elegant and fancy, I didn't mind it, it was epiphones own thing. I forgot it had the ears cut. I bought a blemished one on an impulse. Great looking rig.
3:05 you can see Mark Agnesi just menacing menacingly.
DONT RIP THESE OFF
I got the gold one a few months ago and I LOVE the mat open grain finish!! And it plays and sounds amazing. The coil splitting sounds great and makes it super versatile. It easily rivals my Gibsons.
Much better headstock. Thank you Epiphone.
I agree I love that paradise city lookin cherry sunburst
Thanks Ryan I just bought a worn God top I really love it and happy to see you liked it and gave good review my wife even gave it a thumbs up 👍 😀
Nothing wrong with either distortion or the clean tones. It's fine the way it is. It's a great guitar.
Oh man they're both sweet. I love the gold top and I've been bought the gold top for my upcoming birthday so I'm liking forward to it. Cherry finish has more twang in the pickups for sure, but both sound and look great. I've always been a gold top man
Same I just got the gold although the cherry may sound abit better I prefer the look of the gold and it’s all about what you prefer over what’s better
Same I just got the gold although the cherry may sound abit better I prefer the look of the gold and it’s all about what you prefer over what’s better
Boy that Cherry burst Awesome
I really hope they release a 335/339 in the purple finish
Very cool video!!!😎👍🏼❤️
I have the Epiphone Les Paul Studio LT in the Heritage Cherry Sunburst. I just love it.
I just picked up the honey burst classic yesterday and sounds and looks amazing, could not find the $1500 diffence between the Gibson and Epiphone and i paid $475 at Guitar Center and they threw in a gigbag, shout out to Jose at the Long Island City Ny Guitar Center Thanks for hooking me up.
Got my epiphone les Paul plus top pro in blood orange, it’s gorgeous!
Excellent video from someone who doesn't usually play Les Pauls. Feels more honest. Thanks
The clean tone sounds fine to me and for the price point ( well below $1K) you can't beat it! Epiphones will sell like hot cakes!!!
I'm waiting for my 2020 Epi Exlorer to come in. Ordered it monday. Next Epi is definitely going to be an Epi LP Clasic in black. Epi did a great job.
The clean will sound a bit anaemic if you're not playing into an amp. Plus 100% dry won't sound great. Plus the gold one might have had old strings.
I agree finally a good nice about time
Tell lick crazy I'm buying four
Sounds good!👍👍😎
I’m gonna try and get the les Paul classic in the cherry burst
The Epi Standard has probucker pickups that actually sound decent. The classic pups are really warm to the point of being a bit muddy
The old Epiphone headstocks were deal-breakers, but I really like these new ones.
I played the worn sunburst today, I wasn't to sure about it. But after watching this I'm going to check out a gloss model. It does have different pickups.
Sounds awesome clean or distorted to me
Go for the gold!
And Jerry Mathers as the Beaver! I love the old headstock. I have the 339.
Ward you were really hard on the Beaver last night and I'm not talking about Theodore
dude i got one of the SGs standards and THAT worn cherry sunburst Les Paul....
if u close youe eyes its legit. great pair i reccomend
I saw the Epiphone Les Paul worn purple at NAMM . I just had to have it. It looks and plays just as nice if not nicer than my Gibson Les Paul custom.
Before this video I was under the impression the worn and gloss versions of the Classic had the same pickups, but now that I've heard them and taken a closer look at the specs I definitely like the sounds of the regular glossy Classic better. The worn has "Alnico Classic Pro" humbuckers and the regular classic has "Alnico CUSTOM Pro" humbuckers. Thanks for the video man!
so there is a difference? some people were saying they are supposed to have the same pickups.
@@60CycleHumcast Yes, that is actually true. The Worn models have AlNiCo Classic Pro humbuckers, and the glossy models have Alnico Custom Pro humbuckers. Completely confusing.
@@andreaskragh9464 Depends which website you visit. Many state that the Classic has Alnico Classic Pro for both the worn Gold and Cherry. The worn lacks the CTS pots and phase reversal.
$449 at Sweetwater
David Ozab great i only have £10 not even dollars 😂
Ill try to nick my dads gibbo sg haha
@@jimmygubbins I MAY have 10 quid in dollars. Don't know the current exchange rate.
Awesome !! Hope you demoed the new epi Junior too !
motorrebell I didn’t, sorry
TheBryansong65 I should have filmed every new epiphone, if they have them displayed at snamm I’ll do it then. I know that’s a ways off
Hi Friend, I have two questions, what kind amplifier and effects did you use, to play this guitars? And is there different weight between Worn Gold and Heritage Cherry Sunburst? Thanks for your help and your video
Ya the new head stock makes the guitar and my playing sound way better! lmao The action is nice because they all got a setup before the show!
I wonder what people are thinking when they give a thumbs down to an excellent video such as this one. You can tell I'm curious about people's psyche and that's why I watch Ryan's videos 😉. 👍 To Ryan!
what people don't realize is that youtube counts thumbs down as an interaction equal to a thumbs up, its great for analytics.
@@60CycleHumcast oh I completely agree, and that's the kicker, they accomplish the exact opposite of what their intentions were lol.
years back a guy got pissed at me and downvoted every single one of my videos. Not only did he give me a click on every video he juiced the analytics with an interaction. It was glorious.
@@60CycleHumcast That is funny and rewarding to say the least, gotta love it! And it just solidifies the success of your work. I enjoy your videos emensely just like countless others do, thank you!
Your boy with the Marshall bag looks like he needs a hug.
I have an epi 60s tribute with the Gibson pups, CTS pots, switchcraft etc. Great guitar but would love the open book headstock. Epiphone is really coming up.
If you give it a few months, I'm sure www.stratosphereparts.com will be dealing out the bodies alone so that you can just swap everything over. If you hadn't heard yet, basically all they do is buy popular guitars, tear them down, and then sell them one part at a time. It's a pretty remarkable idea, honestly.
You are experiencing better and worse sounds with pickups because, the faded, Classic has shitter pots than the gloss, cherry burst version, for example . Korean pots in faded, cts pots in gloss versions 👍
I'm curious about your audio/video rig you use on location would you do a UA-cam video explaining the equipment? BTW I am excited about the new Epiphone also!
im using an HX stomp for the guitar signal which is running into a ZOOM H6, Im using a senheiser broadcast headset to record my voice and monitor the hx stomp. the camera is a really old lumix.
I will start by saying that I like the New Epiphone headstock.
But I like the previous one too.
As far as the "open book" moniker used so much,...The previous Epiphone headstock resembles an "open book" even more because the clipped ear creates the silhouette of the thickness of the pages of the "open book"
Anyway I own 2 new 2020 Epiphone Les Paul Standards with of course the new headstock.
I also have 3 plus top Pro Epiphones with the previous headstock.
Happy to have both styles.
That clean sound sounds like it would be crisper if you took the cellophane off the pick up.
7:15 omg. I have a 2011 Gibson LP 2011 Trad and I want this Epi...
I have a 2010 trad. I'm convincing myself to get this and call it a trend. New les paul every ten years
Wonder what was more of the difference. Gloss/Worn, or the Electrics in the Gloss model.
I am getting the purple burst as soon as they get me off of the waiting list! That color sells out so quickly! Also, I see nothing wrong with the old Epiphone headstocks! Of course I am not a Gibson fan! The price of the Worn model sells at $449.
Hello Ryan, where can I find the Helix patch called seismic matters? Thanks :-)
So the worn and gloss have the same neck profile?
Epiphone is gonna make bank because they finally fixed the damn headstock.
What's the profile on the neck of the Heritage Cherry? a C or a D?
The clean tone isn't as twangy as I would like
Now of epiphone can nail the problem with washers coming off the input jacks or the jacks breaking I would be happy!
They both have the exact same Alnico Classic PRO Humbucker in them.
Yes, odd that Ryan found that the Cherry was different to the worn. Only difference is the worn does not have phase shift and CTS pots...maybe that's it?
@@SaxJockey because everyone listens with their eyes. Thats why Maple is "bright" and rosewood is "dark" sounding lol
@@Healcraft You may well be correct 🤭. The only thing I noticed with a maple fretboard is that it seems more sticky...probably because it's fairly new with a high gloss finish. My other guitars have rosewood fretboards.
@@SaxJockey on further research I think the classic gloss indeed has the same pickups but different pots, so it probably is different, plus different pickups of the same model can be wound slightly off / wire gauge varies slightly, and even identical pots have a tolerance range too
@@Healcraft I have two Epi LP ES Pro guitars (LP shape, ES 339 semi hollow maple Ply construction, mahogany centre block), both have Probuckers, just different colour body. Both play great but I prefer the sound of the second one I bought (least preferred colour 😂). I will in time work out what's causing the difference in tone. Starting with the differences in set up (bridge pick up height, stopbar height, string gauge/fresh strings). Not so easy to check the pots on the ES (access through f holes, no back cover plates).
Did you try the coil splitting option bro? ;) Lol. But maybe only some have it. Ones I've tried did and I love all it's sounds!! 😎🤘🎸
Is the cherry one a classic worn heritage cherry or a classic heritage cherry sunburst
'I love gold!' Ok Goldmember!
Man I’ve been looking to get a guitar that I can set up for slide, and I think that this might be it. I was originally planning on getting an acoustic, but now I am very very tempted to get one of the 50s standard LPs.
I have a made in Korea 1999 Standard and it sounded so much better than a new Chinese Standards. I t was evident to be even being a bassist predominantly.
great film brother!
did you ever get the cherry one? ever found the "peter green phasepot"?
Its a step in the right direction, still want to see the classic Gibson shape on the Epiphone LPs. But keep the 14 degree headstock angle of the Epiphone.
I'm still waiting to hear what the new epi firebirds sound like
Everyone goes to the epi booth, no one touches the birds
Honestly the thing that has me the most excited from NAMM
ua-cam.com/video/3SB4URuFT_M/v-deo.html
@@koiichi3777 doing the Lord's work
Appreciate it
Maybe cos they're shit!
DMSProduktions oh !
@@malcolmhardwick4258 Well, they won't be 'proper' 'Birds with thru body necks etc. They will be the more standard set neck build.
I believe both guitars have the similar pickups.. epiphone alnico pro bucker in the gold and the hot version on the sunburst... both guitars sound great to me... I always change the pickups and electronics anyway
The new Classic LP have (older) Alnico Classic Pro PuPs (Alnico V). So the worn Gold and Cherry here are both Alnico Classic Pro. The new Modern & Standard LP have (newer) Probuckers (Alnico II). Epiphone have confused the hell out of everyone with the PuP names 😂.
did you get a video of the new sg with the vibrola? im GASing hard for it
*lowers sunglasses and winks* You bet I did.
Sure, I’ll be having an Epi 1959😎
I like the orange magma fade there has been only one slight demo by Pete didnt even play it
yes same pickups. the difference is there, i can hear it. what you are hearing is the better wood on the second guitar
It's the same wood.
Hi yes, it's me. I want that purple.
I would call the clear sound thin. It doesn't have the deep south of a bucker or the chimb of a p90. It just sounds thin. I play a Gretsch Jet these guitars have a chimb but they are not tiny.
Thinking about getting one of the new epiphones. Has anybody bought 1? Which model and what's your opinion?
Great review. Hate heavy guitars though. Once the thrill of a newer guitar wears off, the painful reality of a heavy guitar sets in. But it looks and sounds cool.
it is only 100g heavier than a US tele. I have weighed both. Doesn't feel heavy at all though when you gig a 2h set. Not sure for longer :-)
Pickups can be changed!!!
The term for a Les Paul's weight is officially, "Boat Anchor Sunburst". I love them but heavy.
Weird that you think these guitars sound different because they both are supposed to have Alnico Classic PRO™ humbucker pickups. The only difference is that the Classic gloss have CTS electronics whereas the word doesn't for some reason. Would this make a difference to you think?
You sold one of these to me! Don’t know which one yet. Why is the worn more expensive on their site but cheaper on the market between the two?
I have the Epiphone Les Paul Standard PlusTop Pro ,and yes, it's got the older headstock shape that you and a lot of other people don't like, but it it's a fantastic guitar. To be honest with you the headstock shape was never anything I paid any attention to and I never noticed the difference between the Gibson and Epiphone headstock shapes until I actually bought my first Epiphone Les Paul Standard back in 2001. It was a beautiful black guitar with the off-white pickgaurd and binding ,it had the greenish "tulip" styled tuning machines. I loved that guitar but I hated the pickups that came with it. They were horrible. If could go back, I would replace the pickups with P90's. I've actually been thinking about doing that to my PlusTop Pro which came with the Probuckers, as you know, they also have coil splitting capabilities. I've been digging into a lot of surf and rockabilly stuff and Les Pauls are sort of an oddball choice for the sound that I'm trying to achieve. I hope you get the "cherry burst" Les Paul, because I know Les Pauls can surf. If you want want one these ,I believe you could get one for about half of the retail price if you can find one on the used market. I got mine for about $300 from one of the local pawnshops. Great video!
I recently discovered that the humbuckers and P90's that came in the Les Pauls are NOT the same size. What can I say? I guess I won't be doing the swap after all.
