He specializes in preventing and reversing disease through nutritional methods. Dr. Fuhrman is the President of the Nutritional Research Foundation and on the faculty of Northern Arizona University, Health Sciences division. He coined the term “Nutritarian” to describe a nutrient-dense eating style, designed to prevent cancer, slow aging, and extend lifespan.
For over 30 years, Dr. Fuhrman has shown that it is possible to achieve sustainable weight loss and reverse heart disease, diabetes and many other illnesses using smart nutrition. In his medical practice, and through his books and television specials, he continues to bring this life-saving message to hundreds of thousands of people around the world.

Dr. Fuhrman operates the Eat To Live Retreat in San Diego. At this residential facility, people from all over the world come to stay for 4-12 weeks to recover from conditions ranging from cardiovascular disease to autoimmune disease, food addiction and more. They also gain the skills and knowledge to make these changes permanent when they leave the retreat.
A native of Yonkers, N.Y., Dr. Fuhrman is a former world-class figure skater, who placed second in the United States National Pairs Championships in 1973 and third in the 1976 World Professional Pairs Skating Championship in Jaca, Spain. Along with his nutritional expertise, Dr. Fuhrman has been involved professionally with sports medical committees, advised professional and Olympic athletes, and has lectured to athletic trainers and world-class athletes about maximizing performance and preventing injury.
In his hundreds of radio and television appearances, including The Dr. Oz Show, The Today Show, Live with Kelly, and Good Morning America, Dr. Fuhrman has educated millions of people on the long-range benefits of healthy eating. His five hugely successful PBS specials, which have raised over $50 million for public television, bring essential nutritional knowledge to homes all across America.

Healthy fats and proteins are good for us. Our bodies need healthy fats, proteins, and the nutrients foods rich in them provide. This doesn’t mean you have to eat bacon and lard with every meal. You really have to be careful with plant based diets, our bodies can’t get as many nutrients from plants. Look at videos/pictures of long term vegans. You can tell they are wasting away. Children can die from vegan diets. You can eat a healthy keto or low carb diet, you just have to be conscious about choosing healthy, unprocessed foods. I’m not trying to argue, I’m just saying be really careful with plant based diets. Make sure you at least eat plenty of eggs and butter.
Although perhaps there are individuals who thrive on a vegan diet and get sick on animal foods! The important thing is to listen to your body and not put all your trust in an expert or doctor to tell you what’s right for you! 💛

I love vegetables and I eat plenty of them, but beans don’t do it for me.. I can eat some, regularly,no. I’m diabetic and have lowered my blood sugar a lot with the Keto diet so I never had to go on medication. I feel so much younger, lost weight, particularly in my stomach, brain function is much better, energy is great. I have researched and different nutrition people tell you different information. I think what is important is to stay away from processed food, sugar and breads and pasta. Exercise, manage stress, meditate. Eating an all plant based diet just isn’t for everyone.

Ok. I agree oil is a big issue. That said, using a small amount of olive oil to season and cook with isn't bad. In fact if I didn't roast veggies for my kids they wouldn't have even tried to eat broccoli let alone brussel sprouts. The bigger issue is not that people consume oil but they eat way too much of it. People eat fried food, slather seafood and meats in oil and butter and so on. It is so not necessary to do. I myself and transitioning to a pescatarian diet but plan on incorporating more veggies that are easier absorbed by the gut.

I don't know why the standardized American medical thought continues to say we're living longer; I don't believe it. In my family. my great-grandparents lived into their 90's. My grandparents lived into their 80's. My parents made it into their 70's. My brother nearly died of cardiac arrest at the age of 50 and has had a couple more scares since then. I'm 67, but I have been eating healthy for the past 20+ years. Every year when I have my annual physical my doctor can't believe I'm still not on any meds.

The other thing is that eating the way he suggests is great , but it requires you to plan, shop and always cook and prepare you food 100% of the time! We all need a break from cooking, or we can’t always be home for meals. Or we go on vacation, or to others homes, parties etc. as well as cook for a family who eat meat or have picky eating habits..

What do you eat if you are not supposed to eat kale, brussel sprouts, cruciferous vegetables due to hypothyroidism? Or those who don't respond well to beans, become ill from them? It seems one should learn about their medical conditions, beyond basic blood tests and whqt foods can help them heal. Diet it seems is not to be generalized. Ideally everyone could eat this way and be healthy if they wanted to. I did trial this way of eating a few years ago, more cautious now, there so many diets out there. He also promotes no salt in his book, some may agree others disagree, some claim sea salt as necessary.

@@claudeenhudson What he says is, that excess protein, excess fat and excess carbs (all macro nutrients) and lack of micro nutrients is bad.

I'm on the keto diet. I no longer take medicine for diabetes, high blood pressure, or high cholesterol. Speak to your doctor. My mom, on the other hand, lived to be 90 and was a diabetic on medication for years. She ate whatever she wanted. She only died because she chose to do so without wanting to go on without her husband.
Always speak to your doctor before taking advice from others.
