I have a 1991 Toyota camry, given to me by my mom who passed away about a month ago, I told myself when I get back on my feet I will restore this vehicle and make it look brand new. it only has 80,000 miles on it.

im 15 and my mom has 1991 Toyota camry and for some reason i want to be unique in my town and have that car looking nice tinted windows and LED lights to make it look more modern but cool at the same time i hope it last till im old enough to drive because its back to 0 miles so its worth nothing at this point but i like the car and my mom still drives it like if its still new
It is worth something, maybe not money but it represents good memories which is worth more than money. You can always buy a new engine for the car if you still want it, that will run you about 1500 dollars depending on how new it is.
I now own a 1990 red Camry LE passed down from my grandpa. has 79K miles to date after 24 years and He polished it EVERYDAY. So it looks like new. When I go to the car wash for detailing, the people over there were impressed at how well kept the car is. I love that V6 doe. Grrrrrrrr.
I miss my 1988 Camry LE V6. It was my Grandmothers. Had 272k miles on the original engine. Such a solid car. Lost due to accident from someone failing to yield right of way :(

Great friggin car, i had a 1991 4 cylinder from 07-13 with 179,000 miles when i brought it and she never let me down or left me stranded even in the most extreme cold condition during the winter in the north east. All you gotta do is keep an good battery and change the oil and she'll run forever..

My first car was a handed down 1990 Camry v6 LE in light blue. I didn't know anything about cars back then, but it drove amazing and the only thing that ever broke on it was the exhaust rusting out. I still hold most cars today to the standard of that car.

These had really smooth engines and one of the most sublime transmissions I’ve ever driven. They shifted almost imperceptibly. I ended up selling after 2yrs when it had persistent but slow oil leak - was quoted more to replace main rear seal than car was worth. In hindsight, I would have kept it a bit longer. This was much nicer than newer Camry as it fitted just below Cressida which was their top level car before Lexus was released.
Awe man i hate to hear this . I own a 1990 camry LE model when i got it i realized its not worth the 3k to replace the seals so used liquid copper in the rad and before my next oil change i used stop leak lower seal repair and since then iv lost minimal oil . And from most peoples reviews you can expect at least two years of a good seal then just rinse and repeat lol 😂 and thats what i plan to do .
It is amazing how good the build quality is in thus car, even as far as features are concerned I am still impressed by this car. You don't see build quality like this in a lot of today's cars.
My 98 year old great grandmother had this same car in the same color before she recently died. She use to drive that car like a bat out of hell. Brings back memories. Great video Kyle.

This car also happens to be one of my favorite generations of the Toyota Camry. It came out between 1987-1991, I love this car and enjoy riding it as well!
My parents had the 1991 model when I was born in the year of '93 but they had the CS standard variant, white and with black trim and original alloy wheels with the grey interior. (Technically the SV21 series). My dad always was always able to take the cover of the horn. Good old memories came from this car.

Great video Kyle!!! I personally owned this car for 5 years and I must say it was a blast to drive and comfortable for long cruises. Rarely ever needed any major repairs and I loved it every time i drove it. I actually believe that power mode really made difference in acceleration as the engine revved higher. This brings back memories since i have sold this car now after adding 130,000km in just 5 years of driving and bringing a total 345,000km!!!!. Definitely recommend this car to anyone.
I always like this generation of Camry. The solid construction and easy-driving nature was evident immediately. Outward visibility is about the best EVER, and this contributes to a stress-free drive.
@Rvqsx - it’s a smol boi tho so nota lot of stress on the bigger engine I mean yes common sense bigger engine worse mileage but as Kyle said it’s about 18 city 24 highway which is not bad for a V-6 and a small car and I’m sure the four-cylinder does it much better especially with the manual
The V-6 will probably make more sense to you in the much larger 93 model but there’s nothing really wrong with putting a V6 in a small car because it’s a Toyota so it’s bulletproof either way
I learned to drive on a car like this. It was a 4cyl and 5 speed. I HATED it at the time but now I miss it and given the opportunity after college I might just buy one to clean up and stance out VIP style !!!
Camrys hav come a long way, my 4 Cylinder Camry has 178 horsepower power and this 1990 Camry has 156 horsepower V6. And the new 4 Cylinder Camrys have over 200 horsepower. Keep it up Toyota 👍
Also the 2018-2024 V6 Camries have over 300 HP and it sounds better than a Maserati. The new camries are hybrid only but, that isn't a bad thing because Toyota makes the best hybrids and they proved their worth with the 4 generations of the Toyota Prius, 3 generations of the Lexus RX hybrid, and other Toyota and Lexus hybrids.
My aunt as one of these but it's a 1991 with the 4 cylinder. Great car and in resistible reliable. Hers had 125,000 miles on it when she bought it five years ago. The guy who sold it to her told her "you will be sick of this car before the engine breaks down" just to show the reliability was top notch. Overall they are decent cars but an accord of the same year looks a lot better if well maintained

This is one of my favorite cars of all time.. they simply are amazing. drive perfect and comfortable and get amazing gas mileage.. I had a '90 camry V6 for years. It was painted a custom baby blue color.. I drove it till 263,000 miles on it.. then sold it .. it still ran amazing at over 250,000 miles
you do maintenance the right way you'll never have major repairs ..well.. rarely. umm I dont have it anymore but when i first bought it .. I drained and filled transmission fluid 3 times .. had a timing service (belt or chain cant remember) wheel bearings and had to repair and exhaust leak. thats it. got the car for 1100$ put 660$ into it and drove it for 5 years.. I wanted to spend 2 grand total so i took the extra 240$ and was able to get a full header/exhaust kit and an intake and she was a pleasure to drive. I had no major problems outa that car.
I had one Great running car for the times, and I bought a 1991 to replace it I'm still driving it today in 2017. I love them both these cars will go forever if you take care of them. Great video thanks for sharing.

My family used to have a 1989 Camry that we sold 12 years ago. You said this car was always garage-kept, and it's in that good of condition, even for a start up? Wow! I also like how the seat belts buckle you up when you start it.
I swear these older Camrys are more interesting than their modern successors. I still miss the old Cressida however; the Avalon will never be the car it was.
I love my 99 camry,I love the style it has. mainly original everything with 273,000 km on it. get at least 600-750 km a tank with all season even flooring it to redline, such a better car than the corolla. Next car I plan to get is imported right-hand drive toyota or an old manual 4 runner

I have a 1989 Toyota Camry at 166k miles. Given to me by a dear friend of mine. It had an oil leak and front end parts needed to be replaced as normal wear. It has the rolled up windows and cold A/C works great! Spend $1,500 on a nice paint job. My 18yr old son loves it and drives it to college and his part time job on daily basis.
This is a very nice car ! I wish I could find a classic vehicle such as this one, with low miles and mint conditions in and outside the vehicle, for my first vehicle.
Such an amazing looking Toyota. Lots of great features. I'm such a fan of older Toyotas. I find them way more interesting than any other new or older Japanese carmaker.
Really really pleased that you are doing videos on older cars like this camry. most people stick to old american cars from the 60s which is all good, but stuff like this corolla's, maximas, old accords etc. are all modern classics in IMO and need to be on video in detail like how this is. I would have paid $10k for this car...I had a 91 dx 4cyl that I ran up to 250k and sold for $2600 a few yrs ago with body damage. I had a 91 Lexus es250 (same car) that I drove up to 200k and sold for $5000 in 1999 and then bought back from that owner in 2003 and resold on eBay to a guy in MA for $2750 in 2005 with about 280k on odo...These were and ARE the best cars from this era....IF you can still find one....you better buy it...no regrets!
Kyle, I LOVE you for doing these! It's hard to find a good video on UA-cam about 1988-1991 Toyota Camry. I brought my first car ever, 1991 Toyota Camry LE V6 off from junkyard for only $130. It run fine, but need some work. Now it's running perfect for 3.5 years since I got it on road! Lot of long road trip and it never act up or give up on me! I'm a daily driver and it got 265,000km (164,660 miles) on it now. I got it when it was 235,000km (146,020 miles). TOYOTA LASTS FOREVER!!

Camrys and just Toyotas in general are some of the best cars ever made My 4Runner has 266K miles and has some issues but other than that it runs and drives!!

I used to remember these late 1980s, early 1990s Toyota Camry models ranging from sedan to wagon, V6 and 4-cylinder, and 4-speed automatic and 5-speed manual. Some of them were All-Trac I believe. Good to see that this car was kept in rust-free condition and driven very little by its original owner back in 1990. Also good to see one-owner vehicles like these. You may not find them anywhere.
Overdrive pretty much gets rid of 4th gear actually and makes it a 3 speed in a way. It allows the engine to run at a lower RPM at higher speeds while in 4th gear, say on the highway, thus improving gas mileage and it kind of makes it feel like you have a 5 speed. It works great with a V6 too since you have all the extra power over a 4 cylinder. It's always on unless you turn it off by pushing that button on the shifter.
I loved those Camrys. I had three... all were base '87 models... even had crank windows. lol. I would love to have a LE V6. I have owned several 90s Camrys (currently a '99), all were LEs, but by then the LE was mid-level trim. Lol. I also have a LS400, so that is my luxury ride. :)
My 1990 Corolla and 1998 Toyota Camry had similar seats and they were great. I sold both cars after 100,000 miles and those seats still looked like new.

By adjusting for inflation, cars like the Camry were worth $30k-$40k new in the 80s. Nowadays you can get a new Camry for around $20k. They’re obviously going to have to cut costs to keep the price down, it’s always sold starting around $20k for decades. If you want quality, get a higher trim Camry or a more expensive model, those fetch for $30k-$40k, just like what a Camry would cost 35 years ago
This video gave me a kick in the nostalgia center of the brain. I had a base model of this particular Camry - five speed manual, power-nothing (with the exception of steering), leaking trunk, and a bad paint job. Yet despite how basic the car was it still had electronic fuel injection for reasons that escape me and was fun to drive (but that may be the nostalgia talking). Even on the base model the interior quality (even without nearly so many features) had all the soft touch materials, rockin' fake leather, and (I only this was included because the car was originally from California) air conditioning. Some days I miss that car other days I'm thankful to have airbags. EDIT: Now I know what that blank next to the center stack was for!
I have a 1990 LE V6 25th anniversary Canadian Edition, fully loaded with 15" mags, power driver seat, a/c, cruise, power antenna, am/fm/tape, pwr moonroof, pwr mirrors, pwr windows, 4-speed auto, ABS 4 wheels disc-brakes, factory spoiler, factory foglights... I just love my car it's so classy.

This was Toyota at its finest, building cars without regard to cost. Toyota over the past decade has taken cost-cutting to the extreme. Just compare the 2007-2011 Camry's cheapness to the 1990 model. The last generation Corolla was even worse! Toyota needs to bring back fat product! Start putting those massive profits back into your cars!
That's not exclusive to Toyota, Mercedes from around 1995 starting with the bug eyed E Class took build quality from their vehicles and threw it away. It wasn't apparent at the time but 5 years later these cars starting rusting in a shameful fashion in the UK anyway with its wet climate. Most Mercedes sedans from that 1995 until around 2003 still running over in the UK have perforated body panels, it's very rare to see one that's not affected. In the nice dry states of the USA it might be a different story.
Toyota's quality slipped a little after they redesigned it for 2007. I drive an '03 Camry which has quality black leather inside and chrome door handles and panel around the window controls - very well built
I work for toyota as a tech and honestly the 2007-2011 camrys are honestly garbage. The problem ones are the ones with the 2.4l 2AR motors that burn oil like crazy. The 2002-2006 camrys are very well built.
Well, the EPA is forcing companys to make car more efficient. Thats why newer car are not too reliable like the old ones. But they are still exception, like my 2011 Outlander sport with CVT. It has 162k trouble free miles. The only thing that gone bad and was replaced was the a/c compressor.
KEEP DOING OLD VIDEOS KYLE!!! My favorites are the Japanese Cars from the 70's, the styling is just so classic! Also if you stumble across any BMW's or Audi's from the 70's imported or not, they are pure class.

This is one of my favorite cars of all time.. they simply are amazing. drive perfect and comfortable and get amazing gas mileage.. I had a '90 camry V6 for years. It was painted a custom baby blue color.. I drove it till 263,000 miles on it.. then sold it .. it still ran amazing at over 250,000 miles

you do maintenance the right way you'll never have major repairs ..well.. rarely.
umm I dont have it anymore but when i first bought it .. I drained and filled transmission fluid 3 times .. had a timing service (belt or chain cant remember) wheel bearings and had to repair and exhaust leak. thats it. got the car for 1100$ put 660$ into it and drove it for 5 years.. I wanted to spend 2 grand total so i took the extra 240$ and was able to get a full header/exhaust kit and an intake and she was a pleasure to drive.
I had no major problems outa that car.
I love my car, 89 toyota camry v6 LE, 137,000 miles, white with red interior, runs great. Looks exactly like this one.

I had one Great running car for the times, and I bought a 1991 to replace it I'm still driving it today in 2017. I love them both these cars will go forever if you take care of them. Great video thanks for sharing.

My family used to have a 1989 Camry that we sold 12 years ago. You said this car was always garage-kept, and it's in that good of condition, even for a start up? Wow! I also like how the seat belts buckle you up when you start it.
I swear these older Camrys are more interesting than their modern successors. I still miss the old Cressida however; the Avalon will never be the car it was.
I love my 99 camry,I love the style it has. mainly original everything with 273,000 km on it. get at least 600-750 km a tank with all season even flooring it to redline, such a better car than the corolla. Next car I plan to get is imported right-hand drive toyota or an old manual 4 runner

I have a 1989 Toyota Camry at 166k miles. Given to me by a dear friend of mine. It had an oil leak and front end parts needed to be replaced as normal wear. It has the rolled up windows and cold A/C works great! Spend $1,500 on a nice paint job. My 18yr old son loves it and drives it to college and his part time job on daily basis.
This is a very nice car ! I wish I could find a classic vehicle such as this one, with low miles and mint conditions in and outside the vehicle, for my first vehicle.
Such an amazing looking Toyota. Lots of great features. I'm such a fan of older Toyotas. I find them way more interesting than any other new or older Japanese carmaker.

Once past 5000 rpm these Toyota engines sound amazing. Nice car for the year, my 1990 toyota truck is nothing like this with tons of rust.
Really really pleased that you are doing videos on older cars like this camry. most people stick to old american cars from the 60s which is all good, but stuff like this corolla's, maximas, old accords etc. are all modern classics in IMO and need to be on video in detail like how this is.

I would have paid $10k for this car...I had a 91 dx 4cyl that I ran up to 250k and sold for $2600 a few yrs ago with body damage. I had a 91 Lexus es250 (same car) that I drove up to 200k and sold for $5000 in 1999 and then bought back from that owner in 2003 and resold on eBay to a guy in MA for $2750 in 2005 with about 280k on odo...These were and ARE the best cars from this era....IF you can still find one....you better buy it...no regrets!

Kyle, I LOVE you for doing these! It's hard to find a good video on UA-cam about 1988-1991 Toyota Camry. I brought my first car ever, 1991 Toyota Camry LE V6 off from junkyard for only $130. It run fine, but need some work. Now it's running perfect for 3.5 years since I got it on road! Lot of long road trip and it never act up or give up on me! I'm a daily driver and it got 265,000km (164,660 miles) on it now. I got it when it was 235,000km (146,020 miles).

I used to remember these late 1980s, early 1990s Toyota Camry models ranging from sedan to wagon, V6 and 4-cylinder, and 4-speed automatic and 5-speed manual. Some of them were All-Trac I believe. Good to see that this car was kept in rust-free condition and driven very little by its original owner back in 1990. Also good to see one-owner vehicles like these. You may not find them anywhere.
Overdrive pretty much gets rid of 4th gear actually and makes it a 3 speed in a way. It allows the engine to run at a lower RPM at higher speeds while in 4th gear, say on the highway, thus improving gas mileage and it kind of makes it feel like you have a 5 speed. It works great with a V6 too since you have all the extra power over a 4 cylinder. It's always on unless you turn it off by pushing that button on the shifter.
I loved those Camrys. I had three... all were base '87 models... even had crank windows. lol. I would love to have a LE V6. I have owned several 90s Camrys (currently a '99), all were LEs, but by then the LE was mid-level trim. Lol. I also have a LS400, so that is my luxury ride. :)

what ever happened to velour seats, they were the best.
My 1990 Corolla and 1998 Toyota Camry had similar seats and they were great. I sold both cars after 100,000 miles and those seats still looked like new.
As long at it's properly cared for, the velour will stay looking and feeling great.

Toyota really took pride in there products in the early 90's with chrome accents & quality fabrics. The Toyota's today are all plastic.

Oh yeah! I miss the Supra. With the exception of the Scion FRS, Toyota needs to make fun cars again. Don't get me wrong I like the new Toyota's, I just miss their fun cars like the Supra, Celica, MR2, and Corolla GTS/SR5.

That's because all businesses are out for is money.
By adjusting for inflation, cars like the Camry were worth $30k-$40k new in the 80s. Nowadays you can get a new Camry for around $20k. They’re obviously going to have to cut costs to keep the price down, it’s always sold starting around $20k for decades. If you want quality, get a higher trim Camry or a more expensive model, those fetch for $30k-$40k, just like what a Camry would cost 35 years ago
This video gave me a kick in the nostalgia center of the brain. I had a base model of this particular Camry - five speed manual, power-nothing (with the exception of steering), leaking trunk, and a bad paint job. Yet despite how basic the car was it still had electronic fuel injection for reasons that escape me and was fun to drive (but that may be the nostalgia talking). Even on the base model the interior quality (even without nearly so many features) had all the soft touch materials, rockin' fake leather, and (I only this was included because the car was originally from California) air conditioning. Some days I miss that car other days I'm thankful to have airbags. EDIT: Now I know what that blank next to the center stack was for!

I have a 1990 LE V6 25th anniversary Canadian Edition, fully loaded with 15" mags, power driver seat, a/c, cruise, power antenna, am/fm/tape, pwr moonroof, pwr mirrors, pwr windows, 4-speed auto, ABS 4 wheels disc-brakes, factory spoiler, factory foglights... I just love my car it's so classy.

This was Toyota at its finest, building cars without regard to cost. Toyota over the past decade has taken cost-cutting to the extreme. Just compare the 2007-2011 Camry's cheapness to the 1990 model. The last generation Corolla was even worse!

That's not exclusive to Toyota, Mercedes from around 1995 starting with the bug eyed E Class took build quality from their vehicles and threw it away. It wasn't apparent at the time but 5 years later these cars starting rusting in a shameful fashion in the UK anyway with its wet climate. Most Mercedes sedans from that 1995 until around 2003 still running over in the UK have perforated body panels, it's very rare to see one that's not affected. In the nice dry states of the USA it might be a different story.
Toyota's quality slipped a little after they redesigned it for 2007. I drive an '03 Camry which has quality black leather inside and chrome door handles and panel around the window controls - very well built

I work for toyota as a tech and honestly the 2007-2011 camrys are honestly garbage. The problem ones are the ones with the 2.4l 2AR motors that burn oil like crazy. The 2002-2006 camrys are very well built.

Well, the EPA is forcing companys to make car more efficient. Thats why newer car are not too reliable like the old ones. But they are still exception, like my 2011 Outlander sport with CVT. It has 162k trouble free miles. The only thing that gone bad and was replaced was the a/c compressor.
