My band did the exact same trip like two years ago! I think my experience was probably slightly more positive overall, no 24 hour layover or anything, but a lot of the stuff hasn't changed a bit and it's funny to hear you describing pretty much the same experiences. I can certainly attest to the street performers, Windsor Castle, the constant rain, and the sharp pain in my arm at the end of the New Year's Parade (I had a tuba rather than a cymbal but both are large pieces of metal so the end result is about the same).
I cannot sleep on planes either, although I always figured my not being able to sleep on the plane helped me to better adapt to the time change when I went on intercontinental trips. But my place ride too and from Japan sucked pretty badly since it was like a ~12 hour flight
As some who's lived in London my whole life, it was pretty interesting to hear what you had to say. Here are a few nitpicks, though: The food has gotten far better in the past 5 or so years, mainly because we've let in international cooking more and more. Mediterranean, Asian, and Caribbean more specifically. The legal age for the purchase of alcohol is 18, but you can order certain drinks with meals from 14 onwards. Underground, not Subway :) People are an odd mix of polite and aggressive. They'll shove you out the way them apologise profusely. Finally, please don't compare us to the smellies over the channel! (But seriously, come back sometime, even the Conserveratives can't stop it being a great place to be.)
London's great to visit but i hated living there. It's a shame you didn't visit Camden Town since it's really nice and there's a lot of cool stuff there. Though i've no idea if it was the same as now back when you went there. Also if you're interested in seeing the brony community there i'd suggest checking ou UKofEquestria
any visitors to london I propose a challenge. On the tube attempt to have eye contact with a stranger with no words exchanged for a full 10 seconds. Use gestures and expressions if you wish, just not words (not that it'd really help)
I went to London (for one day) and Scotland for a theatre festival in high school. London is one of my favorite places ever and I wish I spent more time there. I get anxious around large crowds and loud noises but it wasn't too bad there. I went to the shops and 221 Baker Street. I liked the birds and the chocolate a lot too. I spent more time in Edinburgh though which was nice too. I returned to England for a family trip a year later but one stayed in London for a day again. One day, I'd really love love to go back. ^^
When I was in London the restaurant food was fairly bland as you said, but my family had enough time to go buy groceries so we could make plenty of good stuff. Plus there were plenty of American chain places for us if we got homesick. I will say that their potato chips, or "crisps" are far better flavored than our Lays.
It's not that British's food is bland, it's that American food has more sugar, salt, butter and other flavoursome additives than British food. I once ate a "chocolate" Hershey's kiss. Pretty sure it was just a block of sugar and butter painted brown. Tasted good but lacked substance. And chocolate....
Oh yeah, Hershey chocolate is REALLY artificial. If you try to have a glass of milk with some, it's really gross, 'cause it gets rid of all of the chocolate flavor and all that's left is this hunk of solid oil in your mouth.
Dr. Bees Am I the only person thinking the solution to the oil crisis is to pour milk on Hershey's storage warehouses and then put an oil rig on top? THERE'S GOLD IN THEM THAR WAREHOUSES! GOLD!
PlebNC I've been pushing for that for years now, but as we know how democracy works, a couple of votes in a sea of votes that don't care is not very effective. Someday we'll take down that robber baron known as Hershey Inc, but it'll probably only be possible through pyrotechnics and/or mass amounts of gluttony.

shoopwhoopX By "smellies" I meant French.
I honestly don't know why I watched this, but the story just drew me in. xD Sounds cool, I would love to visit London myself some day.

Bland food is good
When you eat non-bland food, you get nightmares when you wake up
Always nice to see a PTwG.

You could have done a joke about "she couldn't be sweeter, I wish you could meet her, my girlfriend who lives in Canada", if you catch the reference.
Greg is rehashing his tumblr wisdom.

So long as the ravens stay at the tower of London, England shall not fall. This is why the ravens' wings are clipped!

you're not meant to smile on passport photos.
***** of course a guy with sonic in his name would resort to edge instead of being informative like enkidu..
