Had the MT, R3, pro raced R1, tried the ktm, and tested a lot of bikes. This is the one.
Just got one, it's great and totally different than my 765, can't really compare straight across the board. Shaker 937 twin vs revvy 765 triple, just different bikes. Ducati knows how to make a bike with character and detail, I love it. The most desirable bikes never seem to be cheap ...
@@cowmath77Triumph is about refinement. By that standard no other nakeds come close. They are almost boring they are so refined.
Agree. So refined they’re boring unless you ride the street like it’s a track and that’s when you get hurt.
Looking forward to a proper Street Triple RS v 890R v Monster SP v MT09 SP comparison. Please find a way to do all four bikes at once rather than MCN 250 pairs.
Lighter... faster... better!
A Monster doesn't have to be insanely fast, it just needs to be quick and visually cool. A Bologna Monster without a Bologna (trellis) frame isn't cool. It's now just another solid lump of motorcycle parked in a sea of motorcycles at Philip Island. One you now walk past on your way to look at an S4R. I'd love to hear Miguel Galluzzi's thoughts. Yeah, I'm still surly about the frame. Cheers, Neevesy!
They had to compete with the 890R. Trellis wasn't cutting it anymore.
@@yumpbalump but this looks just.... mainstream..
@@batavusfietsbel Fine, but it was getting outsold and it was too heavy, so clearly the trellis wasn't cutting it. And seriously, doesn't the riding experience trump having a trellis frame?
@@yumpbalump I get it... but it has lost the wow factor... and for me.. any bike I buy has to have that special thing
I didn't like this bike without the trellis frame, but then I heard the argument that the Monster has always been an affordable model of Ducati that reflected the design and borrowed parts from their sport bikes. Well - the current Panigales have long abandoned trellis frames.
Also, the cast alloy, bolt on frame is stiffer, lighter and cheaper.
It is not the frame that defines the Monster - it is the relation to the contemporary sport bikes. The current Monster is to the current Panigales exactly the same what the original Monster was to the 888 or 916.
Another thought exercise I have made was: would I like this bike if it was say, an Aprilia or Honda? Looking this way, I must admit that I like it.
I actually love it. So I bought one.
Nothing beats the retro round headlight from the 90s
I think I'd go for the Hypermotard SP. Basically the same components/motor but a much better looking bike in my mind. (If you can tolerate the ride height)
I miss the trellis frame not into the modern look.
‘Same …
Trellis frame won't sell and makes the bike heavy
Looks a hoot - got to get me a go on one of those, I loved the standard bike, I'm wondering if the extra seat height and stiffer suspension may actually make this bike less attractive for me (as a rubbish slow rider and a shorty).....does look gorgeous though. Thanks for the vid!
Stiffer suspension but he said it's fully adjustable. Therefore it can be made softer. 🍨
I'd love a Ducati. But being a commuter that would have to leave it on the road in London I know it wouldn't be long before it was gone.
Another great review keep it up Nevvsey awesome
Ive had my ‘22 Hyper SP for 18months and it feels like this Monster SP is really a Hyper for vertically challenged and smaller people with reduced weight and lower ride height with the same bonkers ride a Hyper. I need to test one
Not too sure. I have a Hyper RVE and I tested the Monster SP out of curiosity. It’s definitely easier all around to ride, but the seat height felt about the same to me on the SP monster that is. The engine felt a little more rev hungry than the hyper. Wheelies and slides are easier than the hyper, although that could be because I have my hyper tuned pretty soft for the bumpy ass roads right now.
Overall there was something very cool happening with that monster SP. Still love the hyper though, and the hyper looks way better to me, especially the SP!
Great vid, thanks! Have you noticed, what brand lithium batteries are being installed by Ducati?
Just got mine, very expensive in Indonesia EUR 32,340 (Due to luxury tax), but nevertheless I agree that this bike worthy the SP badge. Super fun to ride and it looks good (can be better with trellis frame I must say)
At this point, it should have over 1200cc to get those SP letters on a Monster, IMO. Monster should always have a Trellis frame too. This looks a bit like a fancy scooter or moped under you in the follow cam shots. It's just not the same presence a Monster should have.
Saw one at a local bike show a couple of weeks ago.
Nice bike, but it’s hopelessly overpriced.
It costs 30% more than a Duke 890 R or the new Street RS.
For the same money I could buy a brand new MT-10, fit better pads + braided lines and still have enough money for +400 litres of petrol.
That’s about enough to power your new MT-10 for a whole month 😂
That 30% will remain on resale though.
@@matthewstrange3778
Percentagewise maybe, but you will still end up losing more money.
Have fun with your appliances
@@Ivan-bg1jp
And what is so special about the Monster compared to a Street RS ?
@@matthewstrange3778 Exactly. That MT-10 bike will be worthless after a couple years
Im getting my new sp soon 😊
Trellis framed monster owner here. The new bikes just don’t have the curb appeal anymore. Maybe the younger guys have a different opinion. Mv Augusta nakeds are just way more complex to look at standing still. A factor in new purchases for many.
Mv agusta also isn't reliable and lacks dealierships to find parts that takes months to get
I’d take the old looks with the new tech.
I still own a first gen monster 2001 750 metallic that I will never get rid of.
Do a comparison between this and mt09, Street triple 765 and 890r
Think I'll need to test ride one of these then. 👍
Does this SP come with the forged wheels?
As a Ducati owner, I say get a Yamaha MT09SP or a KTM 890R or a triumph 675 rs. They're better deals in my opinion.
Better for what, exactly? Certainly none of the competitors look as good.
@@rlsedition better performance per dollar Or whatever currency. Looks are subjective so I personally don't factor that in since I know I like some bikes that others think are hideous. You could buy an MT09SP and have thousands left over for track days, tires, gear. That's what I was trying to point out. The 100% performance margins in these bikes are slim. A great rider will be within a second of each I bet. And for a rider like myself it would probably be even less.
@@gonzo221 Fun machines are, indeed, a very personal decision. It isn't all about the money, as no motorcycle makes very good financial sense. For me the looks are a high priority, so that leaves out many brands. Ducati, and occasionally some other European bikes, do the best here. Buy what you want.
@@CS-pl8fc No, you don't know much about Ducati service intervals, which call for valve adjustments every 18,000 miles.
Yes they are
I thought my 890r was expensive enough but sheesh that's a lot of dosh
If they could sort the plate holder out, would agree with you.
Miss the trellis frame, lost the Ducati wow factor for me with the new look 😥
Loved the 888 SP5. This looks a great bike but Ducati servicing and reliability are a turn off. How often do the belts need changing?
These days valve adjustments/belts are at 18k intervals.
Its not 1998 anymore, 30k km for belt replacement, and all the engine elektronics are from brands that all brands of bikes use 😉
Need this bike!!!!! It will look good next to my Panigale V4. 😁
Nice ...but I will stick with my 660 factory.. and 5k savings... 🍻
wow wonderful....
Isn't it time you settled down and got a proper job? Joking! Love your analysis!
Which jeans are you wearing Neevesy?
this monster is bonkers
I've had a few Ducatis, I would say they are great when they work, but make sure you have an extended warranty on it.
Mine has been great for 9 years and 40.000kms. Maybe you should have done a better job maintaining them :)
@@sjaakvandam2170 What are you even talking about?
100%
So not a real SP, but worthy of the badge and the price. Got it.
Nice but I'll stick to my mt09 😁
14k pounds? Here in Finland 22k euros :(
Seriously? 14,990 EUR in CZ.
20k (16k for normal one) Pounds in India :(
I'm glad I still have my Monster 1100 Evo, as these new bikes all look the same, doesn't even look Italian. If you painted all manufactures the same color and took the brand off, wouldn't be able to work out what's what from 15 yds away.
❤
This last generation Monster, although non bling version was the most disappointing bike I've rode.
It looked and felt really cheap.
Save £3000 and buy the ktm 890R..
A lexmoto is more reliable than ktm 😂
@@BodybuildingSteve and Ducati 🤣🤣
@@youtubed9695 old sure but nothing wrong with modern ducatis, ktms are still built like trash though
@@BodybuildingSteve no mate ducati still have bad reliability issues.. its still the common joke on UK track days.. plus I've test rode that ducati monster and the heat from the engine is absolutely insane.. its a naked bike and its still unbearable.. plus the engine felt unrefined.. you can keep your ducati I'd buy anything but one
Save £7000 and buy new hornet
I'm a weirdo... but I'd get the ftr in this category. Unfortunately for indian, I'm out of moneyyy
Although being the 'better' configuration, that engine is boring compared to a duke 890R...
If I had enough money for monster sp
i'd rather buy MV agusta brutale or dragster
A bit of how it sounds would have been good chaps
👍
14k for a 109 bhp.bike...not sure about that.I like the older monsters
It has really lost the shape that made it look really light and elegant. Weirdly bloated. Like a fat goldfish with wheels.
This "Monster" looks like a SV650.
And of course...gotta have the gold forks🤣
Got it all, shame its not the prettiest
Looks like something from Korea.
Not a Monster.
Get a used 1200R with Termis. 163bhp, 160kg.
Looks good but way too overpriced
How tiny is that thing? You look like a giant riding it.
And single sided swing arm
Sounds like you were really struggling to say anything good about this bike to be honest. Not worth the money and a pointless buy over a standard monster or any of the competitors. I’m sure you’re allowed to say that!!
Monster? More like chuffing Hamster!
Great looking bike not really my cup of t though .am holding forward for kawasaki new 400cc head banger lol 😆
Before the mt09sp I would have bought one of these.
Want bad
Were they cornered into losing the looks in order to meet some politician's requirements? Each generation marches away from sexy like it got cancelled on social media.
As good looking as a cabbage
Trellis frame was the identity of the bike…ruined it.
Way overpriced. Get a Street Triple or Yamaha MT09 and save yourself money.
i dont get it- u like uglee bikes? try yamahas theyre just as uglee an 'cheep'er.
No no no and no
FFS ,,, it looks just bland...
Looks like a cheap Chinese bike
I still own a first gen monster 2001 750 metallic that I will never get rid of.
