Just thought I should clarify - I'm not trying to diss anybody for calling out the poor driving. If you'd put me in a chair with a bunch of people and a game I've never played before, crammed together on small roads with traffic, I would've probably crashed a lot too. It's more to point out that the environment wasn't really ideal for showing off the game. I think it's best when someone who has played the game before and is familiar with the handling plays through the early bits of the game.
I mean it’s not their fault they’re garbage at driving I’m pretty sure when the game is out you will see all these pro video game drivers ripping through the map at this point I don’t care if the drivers are trash it doesn’t say anything about the game it’s the gameplay itself I’m actually glad they weren’t all good at driving because it actually show cases the penalties of not being a good driver I don’t think you realize how important that is in a open world sim literally none of them penalize you for bad driving because it’s arcade handling

I watched the gameplay and was slightly annoyed with the display of driving. There was a lot of crashing. I thought I was the only one who cared about that factor, so it's actually good to see someone like yourself talking about it. Regardless, you make some good points about it being their first time, etc.

I agree with you on both the game and the showcase. Definitely a questionable way to show off the game, also because the very unscripted nature led to a lot of bad driving. It still made me look forward to the game though because the map looks pretty cool and personally I like the look of the game as well. Just not sure about the physics yet. I hope I can get into the closed beta, so I can experience them for myself. Alex has been saying that it's "simcade" and "less arcade than Horizon" but I would actually prefer it to be rather arcade (not requiring too much throttle control). If it has a similar style of handling as TDU 1 or 2, then I am happy with it.
TDU2's handling is a disaster though so I'm hoping it's far from that. TDU1 on the other hand does feel pretty nice but it didn't really have offroading, not like that was any good in TDU2 anyways.
TDU SC looks a bit closer to something like Grid Legends or even Autosport, the cars are happy to kick the back out a bit without outright spinning out, a bit floatier but still grippy.
Their WRC games, 9 and 10 namely, feel decent and hopefully the offroading in SC has some similarities without the weird quirks like too much wheelspin when you accelerate out of a slow hairpin.
Ultimately we can only form our opinions when the game is available, but as long as the controls are responsive without being twitchy and the physics has a good balance between realism and arcade this could be a pretty fun driving experience like TDU1 was.
Idk why you would want the same handling as TDU2, that shit was horrible. I'm pretty sure driving aids are there if you can't fully drive in simulation. I'm sick of another arcadey open world game, I want a bit more simulation in my handling. I'm sick of seeing Bugattis launching of 100 ft jumps and offroading faster than trucks with a ground clearance of toothpick.
I honestly don't mind the format myself. Raw gameplay like this is the absolute opposite of their CGI trailer barrage that they did before, and I think they wanted to make up for it. This kind of goes for the general industry too, as people want more transparency and raw footage now - but then the opposite side comes in, saying the game "looks bad". Online play in racing games has also been mixed in the past six or so years (by that I mean some games not having it at all), so I think it's important to see that shown at the very start. I do agree they could've done a bit more with the time though.
Also, the frame rate issue is also due to the video being encoded at (probably) 24 FPS. Digital Foundry talked about this issue a million times during this year's "E3".
Agreed. I mean really, this is how most people will be driving around the map when we actually get the game lol. (Horizon is a perfect example) Might as well see how the game handles those actual moments from real players, and be able to give input afterwards. I almost felt like this was a similar environment to a developer bug/playtest that we actually got to see before the game comes out, and comment on. Some people just aren't used to off-rail demo footage it seems.
I recommend taking a look at AlexVII coverage of TDU SC, post stream. He's been talking a bit about his experience with Alpha, and two things worth noting is, that optimisation is still an ongoing issue for the game, and controls feel a bit too twitchy. Which, in and of itself, gives me bad flashbacks to TDU2 - potentialy great game, but ruined by it's atrocious physics, but well, time will tell how TDU SC will turn out.
I hated this format. Show me the gameplay. I don’t care about a 20 second zoom cut of Alain’s face saying nothing. You fanboys are something else 😂😂
I'm looking forward to finally getting an open-world racing game in Asia, especially one that's urban-focused like you mentioned. I hope the game is good on launch, it looks like it has potential but they need to give us a better example of how it plays later down the line.

when I first played Tdu 1 and 2 I was so impressed beacause every car had different tachometer however there is only one tachometer in Tdu 3

The game looked ok. Definitely needs some work but what was shown was an alpha and the fanes comes out early next year.
People complain about scripted gameplay showcases and wanting it to be more honest. But then complain when everything is unscripted and “not professional”
We always talk smack about how trailers don’t show how the game is actually played but then when someone actually does it, it’s no longer a good first impression?
I really wanted a 30 minute presentation with your first drive from the airport, a small house to start living, getting first car, doing first race... then showcase more cars, etc... then transitioning to the unscripted online play to prove that it's real. You know those are the kinds of gameplay that people would remember for YEARS! Why didn't they do that is still beyond me.
Most likely because most of those systems are not fit to showcase: dealerships are unfinished, houses simply don't exist (the devs said there's gonna be rigid progression from hotel room to apartment to mansion etc.), no races because AI is not working properly yet and so on.
The presentation was pretty weird, but it did show a lot. The first part of the gameplay shows your "home screen" or something when you first get into the game, then you can see your rank for racing, your clan and more stuff, then it shows you your hotel room. They go to the hotel hub where it shows the other players, some cars and stuff like "seasons" and races on the screens. Then they drive to the streets and sharps HQ showing how they look and what you can do in them, like the clan battles which cycle every hour where your clan has to get more FRIM points, race wins etc. and also showed the "Radiant Prizes" which are the collectibles, you could even see a "Wreck Nearby" on the bottom left! They then go to some races where there are restrictions like car group (like supercar, daily driver (yes, there's a category for that)) and a performance rating, they also showed the map and you could see dealerships, workshops and all that. I'm missing a bit but yes this trailer did actually show a lot, this is muuuuuch more gameplay than i expected, i thought it would be like 5-10 minutes of gameplay but it was almost the entire stream! I hope that they'll show more of the singleplayer, dealerships etc next
While a more elaborated gameplay trailer would be appreciated, I really enjoyed seeing some raw gameplay, with random stuff happening, because that is pretty much what we will see in the game, specially on open online lobbies.
Well the visuals of the game are great, the models, the city, the traffic, all looks fine and fits the generation (ps4/5 xbone/series) there is unfinished stuff like the lack of FX on many situations like sparks on a collision and etc, but its fine, its a alpha build with about a year to be polished, so its unfair to talk about the stutters that happened several times (unlike the frame rate that I don't care if its 30 or 60 or 120, whatever, the stuttering is a issue that needs to be adressed before the launch). I get what they tried to show, the multiplayer will have 2 facctions (sharps and streets) each will have it own hq (sharps the luxury thing and streets that nightclub) and it will change your experience (how? we have no idea, for now we just saw a global score showing which faction got more wins), saddly there was no info about the single player, or the car list, the customization, stuff like that.
I am looking forward for this game, specially after skipping every racing game released on the last years , I want to play something really new.
This was my approach. Wasnt bothered by the driving. Was to busy trying to look at the world and its details. I like the collisions and the size of the lanes. We got to see bits of the map and a hint of our room/clubs. Cars sound good too. And with Alex's stream, a lot of questions were answered. Now that this is out of the way, the next should focus on the story and some of the fine details and content. Build it up to release. Some ppl are impatient and unreasonable. They ask for transparency but cry when they get it. I'm not all that concerned with the direction

What makes me upset is that all the new games are focusing so much on the multiplayer side and abandoning the single player side
Couple of things- nacon’s recent filing from June 2023 shows tdu as a Feb/March 2024 release.
Second- kt racing announced a strike against nacon on 7/11 just a few hours before this “showcase” due to working conditions and compensation issues among other issues. Take that as you will, but so far looking pretty bad.

Most people liked the role play aspect of td unlimited. I can see where they're going with it but it hopefully doesn't take away from the racing aspect. All racing games try to force gta rp or forza horizon

I’m from Hong Kong and I think the environment is decent - the streets looked quite nice at first glance, included various landmarks like the convention centre, and they even have mountain roads. But I agree with Dustin they could show a little bit more gameplay, especially when they have faction wars (shown in both Sharps/Streets HQ) but they literally mentioned noting about it. Also they should show some more races (go for some off-roading races so the raptor has a chance!) Maybe we will find out more during the beta.
Yeah, as someone who did actually went to HK as a tourist back in 2017, I think they do nail the atmosphere in Hong Kong, like the kinda cloudy daytime, and the pretty dim streets and constantly littered neon lights at night, I think it should've been denser tho especially at the central and southern parts of the map, it's kind of empty for me.
Finnaly someone with the same thoughts as me about this :D Probably the strangest showcase of racing game yet. And i hope they will improve the physics because all the bouncing of cars looks a bit strange.
Reserve the judgement on physics until you actually get to play the game first hand. I don't want another fucking Forza Horizon 5 physics on an open world racing game. I'm tired of seeing bugattis bombing offroad trails, and jumping 100 ft drops better than trucks made for dakar.
My takeaway from that presentation - Just Multiplayer is shown. So that probably the main focus - eh alright then, but - No Singleplayer is shown - big red flag for me.
Maybe what was shown was the most polished Stuff. Massive Multiplayer focus with tacked on singleplayerstuff?
I think it looks....decent. I hope im able to get into the closed beta to try it myself.
What i think would of been cool to showcase was maybe have each of the people doing a different activity to give us a better sense of whats available and then they all meet up at a spot to race finally. Also i mean it wouldn't hurt to have people that actually know how to play at least somewhat 😅

I think they wanted to do a Forza way to present in events, with fake players driving with each other. But in TDUSC they choose to do this but with real players and bad drivers. And was that mess. But, the game looks good, map is looking amazing with that modern City and dense roads.
Honestly I didn't even see any footage and forgot this was a thing till I saw this video, thought it looked okay-ish but I just find it dumb and funny that peoples instantly nitpick everything on an Alpha build instead of just waiting for more polished gameplay

If you want an EXTREME level of car customization, combined with owning "houses" or at least similar tings + renting or test driving cars before you buy, then The Crew 2 is your way to go!! No other relatively modern game comes closer to TDU 1 and 2.
The showcase really was just bad, I was kinda disappointed but then I realized that this game is still under development, hope they will polish everything and bring back the true TDU experience of driving around, oh and soundtracks what I'm waiting for, hope it's not some kind of shitty hip hop or mainstream music but still I have high hopes for the game
They confirmed they have 6 channels each with 10 hours of individual music, literally 10 hours each. So you shouldn’t be disappointed
I really want to be hopeful about TDU SC, but considering that's what they've showed and that the game is set to release in the First quarter of next year, what they've showed really doesn't inspire much confidence.
inviting all the big youtubers who cared about the game to the event to show the game off is also very suspicious. They know that if they invite them to the event then the youtubers will be less likely to diss the game.

Yeah, there's a lot in development that can't be shown at this point. It would be great to show the story and various classic TDU gameplay, cruising with traffic, visiting showrooms, but that just wasn't an option yet. The core idea of this event being to show off some actual unscripted gameplay rather than a 2 min gameplay trailer, or scripted E3 style demo. A lot of lobbies are mayhem in racing games and though we had a lot of fun recording this, TDU is a different experience for different people.
But I can assure you this is an authentic TDU experience (minus the car wash for obvious reasons) that includes most of the elements you enjoyed about the previous versions. You'll earn your cars, bond with them, maximise their performance on your journey. The handling is satisfying, ideal for cruising, or going hell for leather. Racing is part of TDU, as are the many challenges and options to be revealed in the months ahead. I'm confident that when you see future builds, the game structure and the player journey, you'll find something for you.
In my opinion, what they should have done was a showcase of singleplayer and the first minutes of the game (like you said) and other core features for a good portion and then maybe do the multiplayer segment or just allow the people who were invited to showcase their gameplay experience on their channels if they are content creators which i assume most of them are. This approach to me is like, it shows you what you can expect from the game and the multiplayer segment shows how it could generally feel with players of varying skill levels. The showcase that they did honestly didnt give the game justice and now I am cautioustly optimistic of the game. I do hope they can show a bit more polished gameplay at some point
They way how they should’ve shown true gameplay is how Rockstar did with GTA V and GTA O back in 2013.
When I saw BlackPanthaa's Porsche bounce off the highway barrier like literal jelly, I was like, shouldn't the car just immediately stop moving after hitting that...? I have never seen a car bounce off a WALL in a racing game before 😂
its a gameplay reveal? it revealed gameplay.. not features? if you look at the stream as well, you would notice on the map many areas to explore , all the old tdu car features are there , dealerships have returned , shops and much more and thats just from watching . I imagine closer to release they will tell us more. this easily got me more hyped , the map is good , the physics seem okay , what more could you ask for from a gameplay reveal ?
I think the parts I liked about the showcase was showing the bugs, quirks, and things that could be greatly improved through community or content creator input. Big things I noticed were the crash physics were pretty bad, I KEPT seeing the same yellow mustang and greyish pickup truck every 5 cars or so they passed, the city feels dead (like seriously they could benefit from just adding some npcs behind barriers even). Social spaces are dope but they definitely need to add more features (guys this isnt 2010, i will not be emote dancing in 2024 in a virtual club LOL), and the game will definitely benefit from better camera angles. To me, this presentation was very different from most, but it STRONGLY helped me see what would actually look derpy when the game dropped. Compared to a semi on the rails/clean driving section playthrough where I dont get to see the game pushed to its limit, as same thing with forza horizon, the demos always look so great but when we get it the handling and physics feel always so copy paste, and occasionally derpy.
If anything, most modern racing games are embarrassed to show off their crash physics and damage models even though it'd really show off how the physics may be, so I thank Nacon for giving it to us raw and showing the contact..... even though it was very likely unintentional.
Don't let the gameplay distract you from KT Racing going on strike, which could potentially mean Nacon is crunching the everloving hell out of them.
Which kinda checks out since they initially had nothing to show for the 3 years since they unveiled it in 2020.

I completely agree. I think the people hating on the game rn are kids that just now heard of TDU. They don’t understand TDU was known for its immersive single player experience that was so good we called it a lifestyle game, to this day TDU2 beats all modern racing games when it comes to some of the features it has (it came out in 2011 btw) I guess what they were going for with the showcase was just letting us know, now we can do basically anything with our friends. People in the community already know the version they played was a beta version and there’s gonna be wheel support so idk what people are really complaining about, this game will force Midnight Club’s return, mark my words. this game will go down in history as one of the greats, it’s impossible for it not to

Totally agree. TDU has always been about much more than just driving. When I think of TDU, I think of housing, shops, car dealerships, character customisation. I always played TDU 1 and 2 completely on my own. I just don't care about the multiplayer. Not in any game.
It might've been the worst gameplay reveal for a game I've ever seen. The whole thing was pre-recorded but still felt incredibly chaotic and not in a good way. It was like I was in a fever dream with so many people talking over each other, way too many voices were going on. Horrific driving which I don't entirely blame on the people due to how uncomfortable the setup looked (like just look how low the monitors are to where they are sat) and it looked like they never played the game before with just how piss poor some of them were driving. I'm not expecting these guys to be like Han and DK in Tokyo drift during the chase scene as they avoid every little bit of traffic, but come on I expect them to be able to drive in a straight line without slamming off a wall.
Which is a shame because if you really try to look past all the shit, the game itself looked pretty solid. But we barely got to experience it.
This whole gameplay "reveal" was supposed to be an evidence that the game actually exist and not some back burner project. Think of it as an actual gameplay and that KT racing isn't pulling the same thing as The Day Before game. Also, ALPHA game is in ALPHA. One of the people playing in the reveal ALEX VII has elaborated more on the content of the game. Although we have to take his words with a grain of salt, he did get to play more of the story progression and content more than what's showcased in that small gameplay reveal
That's not a nightclub, that's Streets HQ, they show every HQ clan you can choose
The gameplay looked okay, but the physics how they worked threw me off a bit. It doesn't scream much "simcade" to me, not sure if it's the Chase Camera or the vehicle physics. The camera and how the cars handled reminded me little bit of Watch Dogs Legion. Alex VII said that the game has simcade handling but judging from the footage I don't know.
This game looks like mix of TDU 2, Cyberpunk 2077 and CarX Street, maybe little bit of Midnight Club 2 and 3 vibes there as well. The Streets HQ scene and hotel scene gave me Cyberpunk vibes.
The game is obviously still far from finished. I also paid attention to poor Steering Wheel rotation in cockpit which reminded me of The Crew 2. Kylotonn needs to improve some things in this game, the potential is there but they still have lot of work to correct and improve things.

I’m honestly not surprised. Lots of bad signs going on, even going as far as the developers going on a strike, which could affect development down the line.
It’s like TDU Solar Crown was stuck in development hell, and it shows. It looks like it could stay that way until release next year (provided it’s really releasing by next year, because I’m becoming concerned if whether the game will release at all).
Honestly, I find their so called "Together We Drive" trailer from last year where they're blatantly proclaimed a heavily edited, pre rendered trailer being made in game is where I drew my line, and sitting down, questioning to myself if this game was even for real
And yet people keep blasting me for saying that even EA and Ubisoft does a much better job at marketing NFS Unbound and The Crew Motorfest respectively despite their own set of problems, and I am genuinely not defending two of these companies mentioned
I'm so neutral to this one. Beam NG has become my personal TDU in recent years. I don't even bother with these newer cash grabs anymore unless they actually compare to their original counterparts. The Gollum publisher better open their eyes for this one.
Yeah, I agree, less is more. They could show some cars, a little bit of racing and only tease things like multiplayer, clubs and other social things. I would love to see a dancing minigame, not gonna lie

I would guess the investors demanded they show something, as they haven't been showing anything in their monthly updates. It might be just a scam? I wouldn't be surprised if investors stop any further support and the game canceled. It looked far less developed than the track of Hong Kong Island made by players for Assetto Corsa.
Bro this has to be ironic right? Investors are not going to just pull out before they actually get some return and the asseta corsa mods, albeit impressive for a mod, comes absolutely nothing close to this

By the looks of it, the car driving looks more engaging than motorfest. Of course, it's hard to judge from gameplay videos however motorfest has that drive everywhere at 200mph with no cornering impact feel which is ultimately boring imo.
All they had to do was show the driving, whatever customization was gonna be there, and some story gameplay. It’s sucks we barely got a genuine taste of the driving and nothing of the other two. I’m really hoping this game carries the old TDU style of having a bunch of factory options for cars. Now I’m just worried, but very hopeful.
I wanna see more of the 2019 Chevy Corvette ZR1.

I guess I'm confused by these complaints. They showcased free roam, the city, the home, dealership, garage, both factions and their HQs, group driving, features on the car (blinker, wiper, lights, roof), and bunch more features in the game.
Nacon did a good job of showing off the game. It is their first open world game and it is also a good way to get feedback on what to do with each feature they were showing.
Nacon took on a huge project and had to start from scratch. Crew, Forza, and all those other games don't start from scratch. The progress made and seen in TDU: SC was great to see since this is a massive game.
To me it looks like need for speed, is that a good thing? I’m not sure .. being a massive fan of tdu 1 I have high hopes for that nostalgia.

Jesus, some people are realy hard to satisfy... If every showcase was like this one, we wouldn't have surprises with broken launches.
This is also another big problem with modern racing games: The players and the community surrounding them.
I agree with you. The game to me does look good and familiar but the idea of what they shown in this showcase is arguable. However I'm kinda glad that this game is real. Just kinda hope that this will not be empty. And maybe sometimes it's better when the first impression is wrong. Look at Cyberpunk for example (let's not discuss the game itself though) when the first gameplay was well very different from the release state of the game, bro, they even changed its genre a few times. Not the best idea to show raw gameplay but at least it looks like something real and believable I think.

Feels to me like it could just be a lie to create a buffer so people don't criticise it as much. A game this large due out in less than a year (and already delayed) shouldn't be anywhere near alpha by this point.

I agree. Sure they delayed it a bunch of times but the game is getting the gta leaks treatment. Maybe they were afraid to show more and possibly get that judgement.
If we're talking about future rants, may I ask maybe for a bit of insight into your thoughts, moreso in the format of old video ideas or content projects you've wanted to do in the past but couldn't and maybe a reason why they never came to light on your main channel??? Just think it'd be interesting as heck

this presentation was a hot mess tbh :D as you said: chaotic, unstructured and therefore not really illustrative, sadly. but it still kinda got me hyped for the game somehow, because it looked and felt like a tdu, wich I spent thousands of hours in back in the days (tdu 1 far more than tdu 2)
You can't compare what happened with GTA6 because not only was that a leak but that game is years away were talking 2025 if we're lucky.This game is months away all we're going to see is slight polish and fixing bugs,you don't make major changes in a game months away from release that's not how it works.
For all intents n purpose this is the finally product albeit some minor tweaks. If you look at any alpha/beta footage vs the full release counterpart you won't see much of a difference,it's all stability,tweaks and polish here and there.

I found it weird that there was no traffic on the roads. If that's specitic to online mode then that's fine but the world seems less alive.

But yeah, the presentation was boring as hell. It makes me appreciate other gameplay presentations that are more well edited. But at the same time, at least it's honest. I don't feel like I'm being lied to in the same way that I did with so many other bullshots before.
agreed, it was not a good showcase, it's clunky and a Claustafuck, tdu1 and 2 map was so much better, the driving vibe is different

I genuinely disagree about the crew, the game looks bad, the physics are still just as terrible and the graphics besides the good looking sun are not good. The cars look bad. The customization is so bad, no licensed parts, goofy ass unlicensed rims. Legit just the crew 2 copypaste with slightly better graphics, a few extra cars and a horizon story. As a huge the crew 1 and somewhat 2 fan it is dissapointing to me. TDU here from a much smaller company graphically is better, and the sounds of the cars are MUCH better than in the crew which is impressive.
Really doesn't help that they had alex and black pantha playing the game.
They really should have had one of the creators play the game, just drove around slowly and showed us some of the features.
I'm quite happy with it tbh, the map looks mint and the cars look and sound nice.
I just enjoy cruising so the map with car sounds is my main goal so tbh Im happy so far.

Okay let's be honest I think this video is the most truthful video I have seen since that game preview I don't think they did a good job I didn't like the preview the crew motofest did tremendously
What they were doing was showing off the factions headquarters like they showed on their web page. the streets headquarters is a club so of course they'll go there to show off the interior. Once the beta comes put hopefully they fill the clones in with variety, but we'll just have to wait and see when the beta's active. In my opinion tho it seem like a decent game, doesn't have tdu2's or classic tdu aesthetics, mainly the houses and such, but a decent game none the less. Just tired of the same ol track sims and drawn out arcade racers that are watered down (ie. Nfs, FH, FM, GT, TC2) as long as im able to fully customize my challenger the way i want I'm content.

I find it kinda weird how people criticize companies for releasing buggy games when they are the same people complaining about delayed releases. Shit happens you optimize something and a bug could occur you patch a bug and 10 more can appear and can also be triggered depending on hardware and general driver issues. Someone played a 1.05 cyberpunk patch to see how the "buggy mess" played and it was generally very stable. Maybe even more then how the game is now. Which is probably because of driver updates.
Dunno anything about the showcase tbf i just enjoyed listening to today's rant :)
