A complete review of the original, overhauled, and fan-supported versions of Test Drive Unlimited 2. What to play and how to play it. That chauffeur is gonna clean up this town!
Test Drive Unlimited 2 is the most underrated racing game of all time. This is not an exaggeration, this game completely stomps on any of the contenders at the time and still holds up well today even without mods.
Yeah, it's still better than everything else. I can't wait for TDU SC to release, it's gonna the best open world ever! It's also gonna be my first proper TDU game
Man when I first got TDU2 way back in 2011 I think it was, It instantly became my most favorite racing game. Not even Forza Horizon could compare to how much fun I had with this one. The freedom of over a thousand Kilometers of open world and the fact that you could live your own luxurious lifestyle. The fact that you could buy every house in the game and decorate the interior to your liking. Being able to visit auto shows with luxury cars, sports cars, exotics and muscle cars. Being able to customize your character with clothing and details was so much fun. I absolutely cried when the official servers shut down. It was such a shame. There will never be another game like TDU2.
I still love TDU2 to this day. First thing i did when i got my steam deck, was to get TDU2 running on it. most played game on my deck still to this day. Most underrated racing game.
@@Rafa12966I also have it on the SteamDeck just install the patches needed for it to run on modern windows and force it to use a proton version in the compatibility settings. I even installed it from my old DVD version and it worked well.
I miss the TDU2 days about 10 years ago, always online with friends cruising around, doing every activity and 100% map completion to buy everything i dreamed about :D
I'm very glad to find a copy in a used games shop for a couple of euros. Thankfully even the retail mode still works perfectly fine with TDUW and Project Paradise 2 as both projects automatically apply a DRM-less patch and updates the game to its final official release without having to hunt down old updates.
Its not sold anymore Its not supported anymore Online is shut down It is clear that this game counts as abandonware and should be free for anyone to acquire from the internet in one form or another
it's really awesome to see that TDU2 remains alive. I cut my teeth on open world racers with this game on my 360 back in the day. this game is probably a large part of why I love to just disconnect and go for drives IRL. If I ever got bored with the races and events I would just switch on the in-game radio and drive off into the sunset. The OST is also by far my favourite part of the whole experience. I still listen to it on my phone all the time. I'm really glad they didn't get any large labels, it allowed for a much more diverse and non-generic list.
Because they technically shut down so there wouldn't be another Test Drive for another 13 years and by that time, Forza Horizon as well as Need for Speed copied some aspects of Test Drive Unlimited and people just forgot.
@@FrostCutter But even so, TDU2 had plenty of issues on its' own. Back when I played on console, physics were clunky and sure you were incentivized to play online but that was when Eden pulled servers so progression was painstakingly slow, too few races and cars are there mostly for show instead of to be used in races. It literally took modders to fix problems and made TDU2 popular again after years.
The functional turn signals are what did it for me back in the day. Not the i used it at 200mph, it was things like that where you knew the developers cared.
TDU 1 and TDU 2 are the best open world racers to this date. Forza Horizon is nice but it doesn't get as big and unrestricted as TDU. I never felt that kind of freedom in any racing game again and I would love to see any developer taking their open world racing game up to that level. Fingers crossed for TDU Solar Crown (even though I think it will fail...) or maybe FH6. My hopes are high but my expectations are very low to be honest😅 Anyway. Great Video 😊
Every time I play this game I forget just how much content it has and how much stuff there is to do. This game was SO ahead of its time. But then again it wasn’t because not many games now have this attention to detail.
Bro, the sheer fact that we are still looking back at this game mere 12 YEARS later says something about how much it gave us! The current games still trying to catch up
This video actually inspired me to go back and revisit TDU2, this time on PC, and give a shot to the TDU World mod. I had tried TDU Platinum already and thought that having something somewhat of an analogue to that for this second game would be real neat. So I had a look around and gave it ago...and I just could not get it to work for the life of me. I followed the guide, looked things up myself, and even popped into the Discord for TDU World to ask for help. Nothing worked for me. I don't want to discourage people from trying out TDU World, because it really does look neat and it clearly works for others, but the impression I got was it would be a relatively simple and mess-free job. That wasn't what I got. I suppose my main point with this comment is to give a worst case scenario of sorts and tell people to budget for time in the event that you get caught on something like I did. I'm sure I could've gotten things working eventually with more help, but I admittedly burnt myself out and ended up giving up out of frustration (happened a couple times, in fact. Many uninstalls and reinstalls were had over the course of this. I really did want to get it to work.) Again, I don't want to knock on the devs here or discourage people from trying this out, but just ready your patience in case you end up unlucky like me. I don't think my case is common, but the fact it happened to me shows that it **can** happen, so just be aware.
Finding a copy that doesn´t come with a virus infection is tough enough (though I still have the original cd covers of both TDU games, just sadly not the keys nor the discs anymore...) but going through alot of trouble to make it run decently just adds to me not bothering really. But I certainly do appreciate the work of the community to keep this classic alive and I love seeing these videos for nostalgic reasons... I can only hope that Solar Crown will live up to the legacy...
Speaking as a member of the original TDU modding community, I'm not sure people really appreciated how ahead of its time this franchise was/is. The scale of the map of both games was outrageous at the time, and still dwarfs the likes of Forza Horizon and the Crew Motorfest. MMOs were still a pretty new concept, and marrying that with the racing genre was amazing. I remember catching glimpses in the very early days of Eden Games developers testing new cars in the game, represented by the Eden "Default" car, a weird mix between an Audi A4 and a Golf R32. Coupled with the unique jet-set, high-life theme of the game, it really is something apart from all the other franchises. If only the car physics had been better... If Solar Crown ever sees the light of day, I'll definitely be giving it a go.
Well it's about to be released in a few days. I'm not very impressed with it, it's lacking a lot of I guess "feel"? Or it feels kind of bland in terms of things feeling "alive". Still I'm excited to try it.

I played more TDU2 than the law allows, there was a lot of problems with the game but also a lot that they got very right. Definitely what they got right was the experience of car ownership and the fun of exploring large areas to exploit glitches and easter eggs. There was a huge amount of players who would spend hours just experimenting with glitches and jumps to get into the airport and drag race on the runway, so the community was about having fun instead of trying to grief each other. Once you bought a car it was yours, it couldn't be destroyed or stolen by someone else. Everyone had their own favorite personal cars and were putting thousands of miles on them. The on-the-limit physics and lack of ability to drift really sucked but the game made up for it with the overall experience of owning exotic cars and houses.
Test drive was the very first racing game I played in my childhood. I wish I could buy this game but I was too late, it got delisted when I finally knew it was this franchise
This game for me is No1, last night I have installed it again after long time of brake and sound omg it was so powerful(I have good speakers) I had to reduce master volume ingame at 50%. Now my adventure will start again for a long long time...cheers to all!

I loved TDU1&2. The graphics still looks good and racing just around with some other people and without any goal was for me the most fun. Yes the physics has it issues but it wasnt to bad either. I remember the race around the whole island which took an hour with a fast sports car. I hope the community is going to like the game and keep it alive

I bought this game for the ps3 after the servers went down and I didn’t play to much of it but the amount I did was amazing it’s an experience no other game was close to doing or still is hopefully solar crown is good and holds up to this
I would much rather see this game come back with a remaster, official servers, or even new cars than see the new solar crown game. I have very little faith the new game will capture the TDU 2 experience, not to say it will definitely be bad but it doesn't really look like it will hold up against TDU 2.
The cardinal sin TDU2 did on TDU1 is to make you unable to tune your car with a body kit. In the OG, you could tune the 350Z into a NISMO S-Tune, but in the sequel you're locked into the car you bought. No Saleen packages for you Mustang, no NISMO tunes, and your Supra will always remain vanilla.
Regarding Solar Crown... Can anyone help me with this? Two questions: 1) Isn't this game still set to be a live service release? (basically requiring an internet connection to play/launch and also ofc meaning they can [and they always do at some point] simply kill the whole game at their time of choosing) - Or did they eventually listen to the core fan base and not decide to ruin the whole experience... (?) 2) Will player homes now be available on release? Last I heard they were going to introduce this ESSENTIAL feature later on at some undisclosed point in time **sigh** ... Thanks.
Actually yes I assume you probably have the weather screwing with you so wait till its sunny also set it too full assistance it will take a few try's and if your anything like me a few controllers but eventually you will get it
Fun fact: You can buy all dlc cars for free in dealership. All you had to do is just go to the dealer and launch the shop list. Then press BUY button on random car and quick press UP or DOWN to the dlc car. Your welcome
Wow... it would be nice to finally be able to play the game online. I wonder how many players like myself have never been able to play the game online. I even waited for online to work, but then it never worked so I still haven't played this game... despite having paid in full for it as I pre-ordered it...
Wasnt the Audi R8 available as a prize car in the casino together with the spyker c8 aileron? and Ferrari 458 was available from the start (no DLC or anything). I played the game since it was released and I had the 458 (btw one of the best cars to handle and drive on wet surface
Where can i get the game to download on my PC and this mod? I tried downloading the game once and it was chaotic, it got a glitch where the road dissapeared in less than an hour of gameplay.
Hopefully they bring TDU 1 and TDU2 to PS4-PS5. I got rid of my xbox 360 and cant play it anymore. Last time I played was 2013 or so. Alot has changed since I left.
Anyone have a link to a tutorial on where to find TDU2 for PC and how to install it,? Just want the single player and maybe a mod pack. Don't really need the online stuff
Iam big fan of TDU1, played it more than I should back then. I tried TDU2 last year but It wouldnt run right on my PC, had lots of bugs and it generally wasnt as " clean and simple" as the first game. So I went back to TDU with the great Paradise mod :) Because of that I have high hopes for TDU SC, hopefully not too high. Too many racing game releases have been butchered recently...
I really wish I could get this to work again. I did try the fixes but even if I can get my antivirus to let it run it still bugs out it if I try and use the map.
Also to mention, the game has a big problem with RTX Cards. The Game crashes when you open the map. There is a fix available, however, you lose a lot of stability and trade the map fix for random crashes. This is only for people with RTX cards.
I had the ps3 version and it was terrible to drive i think whoever ported the game to ps3 really had a hard time as the ps3 game's always Wer inferior to the xbox360 versions
Which was kinda ironic since the PS3 used Blu-Ray discs which technically had more horsepower but for whatever reasons, a lot of PS3 games were notoriously buggy on that platform.
What I don't like about TDU2 were how they divided cars into basic-ass classic, offroad and asphalt with frankly, fewer cars than the first game, and police chases are ridonkulous that when you drive off the road, cops immediately call in choppers that can one-shot you for whatever reasons. And finally, there's more than 2 classes for each category but there's literally too few races and sure you are incentivized to play online, cars are there just to drive aimlessly rather than for racing.
Test Drive Unlimited 2 is the most underrated racing game of all time. This is not an exaggeration, this game completely stomps on any of the contenders at the time and still holds up well today even without mods.

Also the car models are way better than Forza, they're only rivaled by Gran Turismo
TDU2 I spent hundreds if not thousands of hours on that game I loved it
Wow... it would be nice to finally be able to play the game online. I wonder how many players like myself have never been able to play the game online. I even waited for online to work, but then it never worked so I still haven't played this game... despite having paid in full for it as I pre-ordered it...
Such great memories with this game. Unfortunately, I never finished it (shame on me, I know) :D.
Something that always bothered me was that I can't use WASD since it says "A" is currently bound to some invisible binding.
9:46, TDU2: (A cat is on a couch).
Me: (My cat is on the couch in real life as I am watching this video).
Wasnt the Audi R8 available as a prize car in the casino together with the spyker c8 aileron? and Ferrari 458 was available from the start (no DLC or anything). I played the game since it was released and I had the 458 (btw one of the best cars to handle and drive on wet surface
Most Biggest Maped Game After Minecraft...
You have *TWO* islands with real life scale.
No game offered such lands to explore since this game
Can you get any of these mods or updates on console ? Such as ps3 or xbox 360 ?
Such a great game, but there is currently no good fix for RTX cards :( Every solution has its own flaws which makes it very tedious to play.
Where can i get the game to download on my PC and this mod?
I tried downloading the game once and it was chaotic, it got a glitch where the road dissapeared in less than an hour of gameplay.
Project Paradise 2 has the solution
Hopefully they bring TDU 1 and TDU2 to PS4-PS5. I got rid of my xbox 360 and cant play it anymore. Last time I played was 2013 or so. Alot has changed since I left.
I can't play this game on asus tuf f15 window10, it has lag. is there a way to fix it ?
Thank you so much for this review!!
This was my favorite racing game❤❤❤
Where i can buy a copy of tdu2? I dont have the game
Check out one of the multiplayer mod
i might add that dxvk doesnt cut into framerate. it increases it. thats a small difference to me xD
Right now which one is better: project paradise 2 or tdu world?
Actually the Crew 2 made me cringe so hard with it's cutscenes. They're definitely way worse than what you experience in TDU2...
0:41 blurred the names list, but I can see player's name in right top corner 😂
Where I can download unnoficial Patches?
Can you play this game with wheel?
yes you can
It was in fact one of the few games back then that had wheel support at all :)
Yes. I play it with G29 wheel on my PS3 and in 3D on the PSVR headset!
Anyone have a link to a tutorial on where to find TDU2 for PC and how to install it,? Just want the single player and maybe a mod pack. Don't really need the online stuff
I wish mine could work right. I get so many crashes with my 3080 where it's unplayable with all these patches and overhaul mods.
How do I get TDU2 and join the MP server? Is there any discord?
There is a discord server for all the projects and tells you step by step how to install it.
Iam big fan of TDU1, played it more than I should back then. I tried TDU2 last year but It wouldnt run right on my PC, had lots of bugs and it generally wasnt as " clean and simple" as the first game. So I went back to TDU with the great Paradise mod :)
Because of that I have high hopes for TDU SC, hopefully not too high. Too many racing game releases have been butchered recently...
how can I play this on pc or can I play it on console
Console? Good luck finding a used copy, overpriced used copy.
PC? I suggest Internet Archive or, ehem, pirate websites.
Can somebody tell me how to download it. I can't find a proper video to download it
There is install guides on youtube
I really wish I could get this to work again. I did try the fixes but even if I can get my antivirus to let it run it still bugs out it if I try and use the map.
Ye best to wait for a proper patch to the game.
tdu games were ahead of time they did stuff racing games still cant and wont do today
Really want this game get alive again
Is there proximity voice chat?
You got sub and I got a game to play on streams. Never played second instalment and I rly bored with Horizon series :)
I have it on ps3... but i really want it on pc for the unofficial pack....
how can i download the game ?
Great review, what a game!
Great review!
Can i still play it in 2024?
Not officially but check out one of the multiplayer mod server.
Also to mention, the game has a big problem with RTX Cards. The Game crashes when you open the map.
There is a fix available, however, you lose a lot of stability and trade the map fix for random crashes.
This is only for people with RTX cards.
Ye better wait for the proper fix to come out.
I just want the cat on the couch! How do you get the cat?
Only in a few of the 6 car garage houses
