Vaillant Ecotec - Checking Boiler Flow & Return Temperatures

  • How to check flow and return water temperatures on the current Ecotec line of boilers. I also cover water flow rate and how to change the maximum fixed flow temperature of 75 degrees.
    NOTE: I do not claim to be an expert in anything to do with boilers or plumbing. I found it interesting that all this information was available on the boiler so I thought it might interest others. Any changes you make are at your own risk. If you're unsure what to do of don't feel safe doing it, don't bother.
    That said, it can be very useful to see how much heat is being given up to the house on it's journey around the system. It's also interesting to see exactly how much hot water your shower uses in a minute. I like these kind of facts.
    Any questions, let me know in the comments and I'll answer if I can.

    Hi, thanks for this, works well and is there a way to see current kilowatts being generated by the boiler please, can't see it on the diagnostic menu. My installer had a way of bringing it up on the screen but I can't remember how to do it

    Hi, if I turn off the boiler and then I turn it on again, does the boiler keep record of the settings or I need to set them again? Thanks

    My boiler, Ecotec plus, does not heat as per the temperature set in the thermostat. The thermostat works fine. It turns the heating on and off, but the boiler heats up frequently and does not give a damn about the set temperature in the thermostat. Can anyone advise what to do? It has happened recently.

      Hi
      The boiler works on flow and return temperatures and ur stat works on air temperature. It’s as simple as that just ask ur original installer or who ever services ur boiler

    My ecotec 837 plus works fine, but the return temp d41 is the same as the flow temp d40 , it starts off different but very soon catches up and both pipes feel about the same temp too ! Can you explain this or advise me what needs adjusting ? Thank you !

    Do you know how to make the tap icon show on the main screen. Trying to reduce the temp of the water but that icon isn’t showing up on my boiler

    Hi there, my set temperature for water tap is set to 60 degrees but my return temperature go higher by 10 degrees, if I set it to 50, it jumps up to 60. Do you think there is a fault with my unit? Thanks in advance.

    Can anyone tell me what does flow temperature sensor mean? And what is the domestic hot water tank temperature? I am confused about these terms! i have FlexoCompact 8.2 Vaillant pump

    • @JayGasEssex
      @JayGasEssex Рік тому

      flow temp is the temperature the boiler will heat the water that circulates around heating system, domestic hw tank temp is set via thermostat on the cylinder, should be at around 55-60 degrees to kill legionella.

    Hello, please if someone can help. I do have a Vaillant 624 system boiler and when I press the top right button to adjust the flow temperature it shows the water pressure. Could someone explain what should I do. Thanks

      If you haven’t sorted it out by now, I switched my boiler off and on via the button on the boiler, and it then allowed me to check the flow temperature.

      Most newish taps have flow restrictions built in for water saving this could explain why u have a certain low flow rate

    My radiators never get as hot as I want. I'm guessing it's because the burner symbol always has a low fire.

      i too have a full new system that:
      a) runs at £230pcm for 12 rads in a bungalow, half turned down
      b) wont lift room temp more than c 16c above ambient (max 21c) -ie zero out side gives 16 in all main rooms!
      Told today bt Vaillant engineer that the boiler should display c 55c when rads in demand and that efficiency drop from 97% from Condensing 115% - Doesnt condense below 45 or above 60c...
      Mine runs 75c non stop and rarely achieves target room temp of 20c unless ambient is above c 8c - not what I paid £6,000 for.....
      Any guidance out there? - All new system, £230pcm for c 17c heating............

      @@davidstuart4915 problem is possibly down to heat loss in your property, why are the rad valves all turned down to half? do you mean the TRV is at half or lock shield side?
      you are telling your boiler to heat flow temp to 75c but the rads are turned down??? open up rads and reduce flow temp to 65-70.

    Isn't the difference between the flow and return suppose to be at about 55c for gases to condense?

    • @tdcattech
      @tdcattech  3 роки тому +1

      As I understand it (only from what I have read online), the boiler will operate at its most efficient when the return temp is 55°C or lower. The difference is not important as your boiler could have a flow temp of 75°C but give up 20°C to the house still giving you an optimum return temp.

    Why have you done this video? All you're doing with this is tempting home owners to mess about with stuff they don't understand!! There are other variables that help us ENGINEERS set the boilers up, the back menu is called "engineer mode" for a reason not "home owner let's press buttons and fuck everything up" mode ... 🤦🏽‍♂️

      This video allowed me to explain to my Vaillant certfified installer that the hot water flow was not where it should be and that there must be something else wrong with the installation or boiler. Before this, I was fobbed off with, "yeah that looks like 8 l/m, thats as good as it gets" Turns out my flow was 5.5 l/m. This video has potentially saved me a couple of grand.
