- This week at Project Build Stuff we are restoring a vintage 1953 Delta Bandsaw. I picked up this bandsaw for $50 and it really cleaned up nice. Vintage tools like this are perfect for small shops and those building up their tool collection.

I restored that same model band saw about 1989. The drive shaft on the bottom pulley was in bad shape & so was the cast iron housing. As a teaching project @ my work place machine shop they made a new shaft & milled out the casting & installed needle bearings on both sides & installed gitz (spell) oilers. I still have it & use it a few times a year, works GREAT!
Nice job !!
Just picked up the same model. Glad you are here to show me the ropes of it.
Thanks so much for the video. I'm restoring the exact same model and almost pulled my hair out on reassemble until I found your video
I just got myself one like this today on a auction.Looking forward to using it and selling my ryobi one.Greetings from sunny South Africa.
I am shopping around for a bandsaw and found this... I am just shaking my head, restoration went wonderfully, if only they made them like this still! Beautiful!
Tools like this are out there just gotta keep your eye out and be willing to put in some sweat equity!
This is great. I’ve got one of these in need of restoration. You’ve inspired me.
Go for it!
Nice video. The wood guide was a gem. What is the groove diameter of the drive wheels and what size tire (and from where) did you use. Mine has been handed down in the family since by Grandfather who was in WWI. I have had to free up brearings and relubricate but has been a workhorse for small items. Our big metal bandsaw is about double the size. Thanks.
Nicely done. It was good to see the take down and build up without a lot of talk!
I appreciate that!
Great job on the video and the restoration.
Thanks! I’m very happy with it!
Very NICE! THAT saw was born the same year as my dad!
That’s awesome!!
Great video, thanks!!!
I have the same saw. Bought new by my grandfather in the early 50s. It runs well but has only a 1/4 HP motor, which limits what I can saw. Maybe I should get a bigger motor.
mine has orig motor with 1/3hp.
What size blade does this take?
I just purchased the same model. Any idea what speed and engine size this is rated for?
Did you buy any new parts? It looks like you replaced the tire on one or both wheels. If so, where did you get it?
I did replace the tires, got them in Amazon
@@ProjectBuildStuff Could you post the part numbers of the items you replaced? Thnx
I just picked up one of these for $30 off facebook marketplace. Planning on doing the same! Thanks for the video. If I may, where did you find a 71 3/4" blade & the tire? I'd love to find a low teeth count on the blade. Thanks!
I've ordered 71-3/4" blades from both ebay and amazon recently. $10-1$15 for Olson Blades
I got mine from Amazon
Thank you for providing the measurement I need for a blade.
How much are these band saws worth in good running condition?
I ended up selling this bandsaw for $230
Great restoration and video! Don't make them like they used to, am I right (just turned into my dad there for a second 😂)
Mr. Carter can I have a word with your son!! 😂
Wait, your blade guard was wood too?! I thought some previous owner had just lost the old one.
I'm jealous that yours came with all four cover nuts.
Yeah the wooden blade guard was actually standard. Try looking on eBay for the cover nuts.
0:49 you're using your pliers backwards; look at how the teeth are cut. You don't need to squeeze self locking pliers when you use them in the correct orientation.
Your totally correct, thanks for the heads up!
good job ! TRy using proper tools ?? pliers leave burr marks on thumb screws , and other machine finisned pieces.
This is way overkill on restoring one of these. I have the exact saw and I restored mine to brand new shape without taking every piece apart like this.
