I loved the idea of Wookiees only being able to talk to each other, so to everyone else it's just two wookiees growling back and forth, meanwhile they're actually just talking shit about everyone

Yea you had to learn languages back in those days. Luckily it helped give people mentor xp so usually it was pretty easy to get someone to teach you. Wookies also had super limited gear options. I was so bummed when I got to end game. They eventually added wookie equivalents for gear I think.
The amount of burner emails I used to get over 100 individual trials of this as a kid is insane - spent so much time on this game despite not being able to buy it

I normally skip or shut up the tutorials in most games but I love the SWG Legends tutorial to the point that I'll make a new character just to go through it, haha :)
I remember that game back when seeing a Jedi in the game was almost as rare as finding a 5 leaf clover.

@@KT559 Yeah i would prefer like a hybrid of all the versions, players can opt into being a jedi/sith but they need to do a lengthy quest and have proper prerequisites, plus you could also be a trader at the same time
My cousin and I used to play this game non stop. We were bounty hunters and if we saw a Jedi we would chase them to their home and just camp out front lol. They hated it

I wanted to get this game as a kid back in 2007-2008. My mom said I might want to by a car some day. Then when I was in high school, they just bought a used car for me and SWG was dead 😭.

So many amazing memories from SWG.
Back in 2003 there were NO mounts in the game. Not even animal mounts. You had to walk everywhere. And the universe was MASSIVE. We used to start huge 50-100 player krayt dragon hunting groups in mos espa. We would lose at least 50% of us on the dangerous hour long walk to the krayts and then the krayts would wipe us all out in seconds LOL. But it was fucking brilliant
And then ya got mounts and someone would T-Pose and the driver in my group would go "all feet and hands inside the vehicle at all times please!".
@@alexanderjohansson2671 lmao the group vehicles were a lot of fun. Especially when JTL came out. The early game is what I miss the most though. When we were all just noobs trying to explore this giant universe and carve out an existence. Jedi were non existent.
Had so many amazing interactions with other players. I saw things players working as tour guides, housing designers, escorts (the kind that would escort crafter characters safely through the wilderness to their harvesters). What agame

Can't wait when Star Citisen comes out, it essentially captures a lot of the magic that this game had, but obviously in a different universe and modern graphical fidelity and features

You should look into Restoration 3. It's a revived Galaxies server before everything was ruined. It's so dope.

This game is unforgettable. Some of the best times of my life I was playing this with my cousins and the close-knit community I was with during it's prime. Never experienced anything like it after that.

Straight up, I always try to describe it to people but it's impossible to explain how special it was. You could do fuckin anything! I spent so much time in this game its unreal.

@@dirtySwingset Yeah that game was epic because of the community, run to cantina get buffs, chat up locals for group, have fun flying to all the objectives to kill and loot animals or enemies. Even Pvp was so amazing, run around covert looking for overt rebels or imperials, ambush them with a group only for the entire town to turn overt and becoming a massive battle.
Just chilling in the catina, start hearing laser noises, check outside and it's full flegded battle with Darth Vader, and you break out the Rancor pets haha
There's so much potential in that game, such a shame no other company has done anything like it. Doesn't even need to be Star Wars, the whole system would work for fantasy type rpgs too.

What an awesome game. Total sandbox, you could do anything. As contrary to what the big shot in charge of development said, I LOVED being Uncle Owen.
For anyone that doesn't get the reference, a big shot that wanted to make major changes to the game to make it more action oriented felt that players wanted more action and less role playing, and he made the infamous quote "No one wants to be Uncle Owen".

I played around 2004-2007-ish, I think. Back just before the NGE, when you still had to grind a bunch of badge achievements to become a Jedi. Gosh this gives me nostalgia.

I’ve had my SWGEmu files since like 2009. I sometimes fire it up to play around and it’s still a ton of fun. I prefer the EMU edition since it’s the Pre-CU version of the game and becoming Jedi is still a huge undertaking. Literally one of the greatest MMO’s in existence.
Does it have space though?
@@DIEGhostfish It doesn’t, unfortunately. The website says that they had to remake the game’s code since Sony didn’t release it, and space is a different code entirely so it was never implemented

@@DIEGhostfish I don’t think so. I’ve been playing long enough to where I kind of accept that ship related stuff isn’t there, so if that’s what you were looking for I definitely think Legends would appeal to you more than EMU, whereas EMU is a much more hands off experience

Many fond memories of stumbling through this game while being far too young to understand how to play it, having come from playing WoW. I think I spent most of my time decorating my home (which I placed in a near-abandoned player settlement with zero activity) with bits of crap that I'd accumulated.

Wow I didn't had this game so bad looking in my memory.
I also played when becoming a Jedi was a very rare thing to happen and you had to do an incredible long story arc.
The idea back then was actually amazing. Everyone played someone non force sensitive and trained in combats and even making furniture as seperate classes. Only the very hardcore people were Jedi and it was actually a spectacle when you saw one.
This game was so incredible, still is. If you like the Mandalorian, you can hunt krayt dragons for pearls (bring friends) and bounty hunt other players =)
This game is *still* incredible! And fortunately, still playable to this day :)
Played this game for years when it was live, still one of the best games I've ever played, so many good memories, and I still play with some of the people the I've met online more than a decade ago.

Back in the late nineties, my brother was volunteering as an lds missionary, meaning no girls and no games for two years. To keep him go something-something, my brother spent his free time designing a Star Wars themed RPG. He called the game... Galaxies. So when this game was announced, not longer after my bro returned, it felt like a glitch in the Matrix.
Funny story - my main on this server was a jedi, and i had done everything to get him maxed out except get a certain collection item called “sith holocron 4/5 waistpack” (people will remember how rare this fkin thing was), for reference it sold for between 45-60m pretty often because of how rare it was, and i was farming for it constantly so i could finish my build. Then one day a see an announcement that a guy is holding a little event to win one in a week, so im gonna go there fully expecting not to win but it could be fun finding all the items on the list he was gonna give us. The day comes, i show up on time, AND NO ONE ELSE SHOWED UP, dude sounded so sad and just gave it to me lmfao ill never forget that wookie, i still feel bad for him but hey saved me 50m/a year of farming, just by trying to participate in the community lol

I played it again in 2020 and someone tried to get me into some bondage roleplaying. Which wouldn't have been an issue if it wasn't supposed to be set in a different universe.

SWTOR is actually OK, but it's just WoW with a Star Wars skin. A sandbox universe to play in is far more interesting

For some reason my mental image of you has you standing at about 5'3" yet somehow lanky as all hell so watching you make Shortboy here had me in tears.
I remember wanting to play Galaxies for the longest time. When I finally got a computer and internet good enough to play SWG, about a month later the NGE hit. Originally it was an awesome, fully sandbox MMO. All the gear in the game was crafted by players and we formed big hunting parties to get mats and xp for skills.
While your usual content is already great, this is amazing!

Bespin just opened up on the legend server. All new map missions armor and craftables. And don't forget about the Jedi theme park they added. Both of these are exclusive only to the legend server.

This game was an AMAZING experience. So many memories. The one that jumps out is when Restuss becomes a PvP zone. There was a live event where they blew the damn thing up and everyone present automatically had PvP flagged. Was epic. Or your "rite of passage" as an alliance pilot in solo'ing the ISD. Great great times
I played the open beta of this around 2003 before wow was released and I don't remember any of these places. Back then you just started on tatooine without any of that tutorial with han solo or the other lore characters.

I remember my dad bought me Star Wars Galaxies when I was a kid, and I couldn't play that because at one point, at the installer (or right after, I don't remember) it said: "You can't play Star Wars Galaxies if you don't have Empire Divided." or something like that. I'm pretty sure I only had Jump To Lightspeed, which was just an expansion. So sad man, even because at the time you couldn't just go on Amazon and buy Empire Divided as you would do today. I live in Italy, and in order to find even a copy of the base game you needed, you had to go around the country, maybe even cross around the whole Europe and maybe you would never find that. Hahahaha what great memories.. 🤣🤣
One of the best MMO of all time. I played a Creature Handler/Bioengineer and it was the most interesting character I have ever played.

You’re a UA-cam legend. Explore and find multiple fanbases. That’s how legends never get stale
Loved this game. My fondest memories of the game are starting my own town on Tattoine near a Kraft Dragon spawn point, using the nudity mod for my Twi'lek dancer (the mod only affected what you saw, not what other players saw) and having players ask me "Why are you in your underwear?", and of course my Imperial officer character with his own TIE Fighter and "pet" Stormtrooper.
Used to love speeding across the open planets only for a town to materialise right in front of you.
When I played this Jedi was like this mega hard to obtain prestige class that you had to jump through a bunch of hoops to play. I vaguely remember people not being pleased when they changed that

in 2003-04, remember choosing bounty hunter class and travelling the planets to track down the then rare jedi using probe droids ...it was tense but fucking cool when you found them !
OMG! THIS GAME! I forgot all about this...I was a insane pilot, just spent all day fighting nasty rebels. What's funny is I was a menace in space able to out gun almost everyone I meet and this made me rich but on ground I was really low level and like one hit by anything.
It was fascinating how this game worked with all those professions that sometimes never tied to “leveling” your character. You’ll never see something like this ever again sadly
Just started playing on Restoration 3 server. They have JTL available. Just unlocked Master Entertainer, purely funded with credits from killing space pirates.

I got this game for my birthday as a kid but my Dad wouldn't let me run it on our computer... he was always real weird about playing games on it. I spent so much time just reading the box art but after all these years I had completely forgotten about it but now I'm so sad I missed out on this, I would've had so much fun with it!

super niche but i enjoyed playing the other older version that has the super hard to get jedi/sith stuff. Really satisfying grinding up a master martial artist bounty hunter. tried to make a crafter but that grind makes my brain hurt.
Got super addicted to SWG recently, especially on the Legends server. Their work on Bespin is phenomenal.

My favorite part was the space combat. Flying around in the yt1300 that took a month to get the credits to purchase schematics and grinding for resources to build it. Crousing around space fight black sun pirates go from flying to having to run to the turret and then dying when it got too damaged and there was a leak that contaminated the air and killed me, cant remember if it was plasma or what it was lol man good times.
