It is beings shoved as a wedge plow. The swing wings are being used here. Good video, thanks. Pentrex Video Donner Pass (Over Donner I think is the name with Richard Steinheimer) gives a lot of coverage to these used with the wings out on Donner Pass. Impressive. It is a beautiful video.
Just amazing Locomotives! And it was AWESOME to hear them identify themselves to each other during cold, winter wind! But they only have one thing to say!!!
Actually the plow is on a pair of regular bogies, which have springs. It could probably use a better suspension system, the regular bogies (like the type found on freight cars) have springs on them and might not be as good as they could be for this type of application. Adding resonance dampers would probably help. You can see those on some locomotive bogies.
. The Spreader "shakes" because the Sub. is lighter, jointed rail and not kept to the same standard at main line Subs. If you look closely the units are rocking as well. .
Why does the plow rock side to side so much? Even when theres no snow on the blade, it does it. I thought it was bad track but if you look close, the locomotives seem to be very steady, but the plow is going all over the place.
Why does the yellow plow car rock side to side ,when the two engines pushing it are really steady? if that the snow beating the day lights out of the plow blade on one side or the others making it rock?.. either way, neat video..
"[T]he Midwest was hit with a record-breaking snowstorm/blizzard." It WAS a blizzard for sure, the worst since 1967. Worse than '99 because of factoring in the winds and the size of that behemoth.
John McCall The snow is possibly interfering with the speed depending on how heavy and wet it is. More likely though, as this is an incredibly light train by railroad standards its going to be hard to maintain track speed at any one throttle setting. On a train this light even the lightest power setting is eventually most likely going to get it up to track speed. On the other hand it's also just easier to control speed via the throttle than it is to put breaks on and off. Don't worry, they are designed for this.
Amtrak ran a train on it from Janesville, Wisconsin, to downtown Chicago, Illinois, in the early 2000's, I took it twice into Chicago. I should locate the video of that!
It looks very strange to me. This machine tilts on the left and right and so on. Firstly I thought that the track must be terribly bad, but no; the locomotives go evenly. WTH is wrong with this plough?
I believe the rocking is caused by the uneven resistance on the plow from the snow. It also could be because of the uneven resistance on the plow from the snow. Additionally, there looks like there is high wind, which will also cause it to rock. The combination of these factors make it appear highly unstable and broken.
Trainzguy 2472 No, i do not think it is due to wind. Did you notice that even the finest ends of branches barely move in the wind? ;) There is windy but this is not a storm that would be able to rock so heavy vehicle that bears additional forces of pushing and lifting up loads of snow (thus being extra pressed against the track). It isn't also impossible that one of this car's boggies under certain load and speed starts to sway (to bump alternately the left and the right rail) so that all car dances like a drunkard xD
Best way to plow.Any reason why the wings were not open?We use to have problems with ours, because of the amount of air being drawn out from the main resevoir with the wings and flanger working the same time.
People are stupid enough where it comes to trying to beat the trains across... But when They have a PLOW infront of the train the you know their mental.
Wow, just awesome machinery at work, thanks for sharing.
That snowplow is rocking on the rails.
Going to fast for the condition of the track.
What an awesome angle and an awesome video. Don't get to see that much out here in CA.

Train engineer "Hey haven't we seen that guy before" after the third time "we have definitely seen that guy before"
DAMN !! wish I had knew this a couple of days ago. I would've loved to see in person. Awesome video, thanks.
So, 10 year's on, are you still into trains?
I love the turbo spool as it engages the snow drift
Just amazing Locomotives! And it was AWESOME to hear them identify themselves to each other during cold, winter wind! But they only have one thing to say!!!
Great video. I thought the spreader was going to fall, some rough track there.
The coolest train video I've seen on youtube.
One of the best plow videos I've seen!
For so many years I’ve wondered how they clear snow off the rails. Now I know. Great video! Thank you.
The opening shot is so visually strong.
Awesome. Thanks for this
3:39 I really like that FS 2001 tornado siren you got in the back
the plow rocks from the resistance of the snow but also because through plow is a solid suspension no springs under it.
I know, right.....i was getting seasick, lol

At first I thought there was some rough track, but there was something going on with the plow itself.
Great video
5:59 watch how the spreader operator lifts the plow before the crossing!
Trainzguy2472
Good 👁
At 2:32 you can see the same.
Wow I didn't noticed that
lov how the plow rocks back and forth
Wow, that is an amazing video. Those locomotives are beautiful. Great job. Thanks for sharing.

+greathodgy22 scary rocking to me...i would stay far enough away in case it derails.......
3:37 those are some wobbly ass tracks

One more thing best snow removal video I've seen in a long time
Awesome shots! I wish I could have gotten some footage as well!
Alex
@ 4:24 , He is rocking side to side really bad . Love a good ChooChoo video!
Да нет это дискотека
Ah yes, winter here in Wisconsin. Great video!
This is in Illinois
@@millertime8835 Really? The sign said _Zenda,_ and that's in Wisconsin.
Awesome coverage!!
thanks! looks like a cool job!
great video!
Those two SD's made a great lash-up.
Why does the plow rock back And forth?
Why does the yellow plow car rock side to side ,when the two engines pushing it are really steady? if that the snow beating the day lights out of the plow blade on one side or the others making it rock?.. either way, neat video..
"[T]he Midwest was hit with a record-breaking snowstorm/blizzard."

Sweet video, just subbed
6:00, if that car barreled through 2 seconds later, can you imagine the damage caused by car getting hit by that plow? Nice video! Thanx fur sharin'!
VilquinProductions Well knowing where that crossing is, that car would have possibly been push into the Legion post or made it into the Fox.
The plow isn't supposed to rock back n forth like that lol.
Thats not normal is it?...
Thats how bad the track surface is lol. My track for cn up in canada is like that sketchy if you dont work for railroad and know its normal lol
Piss poor roadbed
The plow/spreader unit is pretty wobbly. Why is that?
That car at 5:59 had a Death Wish crossing in front of the plow like that!!?
OMG LOVE that horn. Anyone know the airchime configuration? Is it K5H?
Yep. Metra runs almost all K5Hs.
0:41 train horn sounds like a really chill part of a song
This is former MILW Trackage it's running on.
Nice video !
There's a Zenda south of Lake Geneva, WI.
I was waiting for the plow to tip over why is it wobbling so much
There's always some moron that has to try to beat a train at a crossing...
laney50w It's called natural selection
WTF that was crazy
When I saw it, I thought the same thing.
The risks that drivers take at level crossings boggle the mind.😬😩😓🤑
What was that guy thinking. Maybe he was going to fast so he kept on going.
Why does it rock back and forth?
It didn't look like those crossing lights were working.
The "snowplug-driver" knows very well the lines to lift the plug at each road-crossing.
It is a plow . Not plog you bone head
wow it's hard getting snow off rail lines that are so dencely covered in snow
Why does the plow rock so much?
close call at 6:00.
That person was an idiot who just HAD to beat the train. That’s ALWAYS a dangerous gamble that’s not worth taking!
KL5A........I'm loving it
In the Chicago area, this storm was referred to as Snowmageddon.
That is just so damn cool
Well done video!
(o)T(o) late activating at 5:50?
Do the snow plows ever derail.
I'm sure a plow train has derailed, but a WSOR train derailed on this line a few months ago in Spring Grove Illinois.
I hoped they peek them joints . looks like they need some tamping. nice vidio
just curios, why does the plowcar shake so much?
Nice video but car almost got hit by train .where was this nice engins thanks
Why that plow was swinging? Is it because of wind or because of snow mass on its way was not simetric?
Those last two crossings did not come on?
The plow is doing some rocking and rolling on the track is that normal?
Do they still own the plow?
Still good more than a decade later …
It look pretty cold out there.
Tad bit nipply
I noticed it sounded like the engines were constantly revving up and down. Why not stay at steady rpm's?
John McCall The snow is possibly interfering with the speed depending on how heavy and wet it is.

Ну ,я смотрю что штаты это деревня , у нас как то поменьше снега ,да и поезда у нас чаще ездят .
Awesome!!!
BEAST!
You know the guy driving the car at 5:55 shit his pants.....LOL
doesn't Amtrak run this line
+bettyboop65340 if they are don't drink your coffee until you get off the train.......
From Fox Lake south into the city via Rondout IL. This was north of the yard limit @ Fox Lake operated by WSOR.
The Chicago Metra terminates at fox lake, about half a mile behind the last camera shot
Amtrak ran a train on it from Janesville, Wisconsin, to downtown Chicago, Illinois, in the early 2000's, I took it twice into Chicago. I should locate the video of that!

I think that the entire plow car is top heavy and that's why it sways back and forth.
It's doing that intentionally.
That snow plow looks like Charlie Chaplin walking, wobbling back and forth!
Best way to plow.Any reason why the wings were not open?We use to have problems with ours, because of the amount of air being drawn out from the main resevoir with the wings and flanger working the same time.
...if the spreader's a-rockin'...don't come a-knockin'... ;-) ...
+Paradise Road ......she's rockin so hard, she might come off the rails!!!!!!!
Plowing old. Side tracks. Nice
Thumbs Up Liked.
Who's this Jordan Spreader guy and why does he get to drive a train? Kidding - but since I'm an honest guy, that really was my first thought.
I thought it was a spreader that spreads jordans.
@MONTGOMERYSaApBt Thanks. I figured it was that or the wind.
People are stupid enough where it comes to trying to beat the trains across... But when They have a PLOW infront of the train the you know their mental.
Great action 👍. But of cause there's always some a hole that runs their car right in front of the train.
And the company is wondering why the engineers are always calling in seasick
Too close to the tracks. Other than that, great!
TRACKS STILL AINT FIXED!!
Listen up children...grow a pair and go run the rails....not as easy as i looks...but quite possibly the coolest career ever.... TRUE!
Yes
must be blind not to see that train comin' at you
Rock and roll.
Lol thought my track i work on up in canada was bad for crappy surface causing rock n roll 😆 🤣 😂 😹
5:58 OMG.
6:00 steel balls
The siren on pole at 3:38. 2 forms of autism coming together in one video.
Looks like he's about a day late.
5:58 wtf
5:59 I just love stupid drivers who don't stop at activated signals.
I don't see lights flashing at the crossing. Look when train passes, you should see it flashing in the shadows.
I could see the lights flashing, and hear the bell ringing.
@@GoneMudden they're definately flashing
Jealous of your neck of the woods. I miss snow.
That car was pretty close to getting it near the end.
