- Welcome to the largest farm consignment auction on the East Coast! (at least that's how the Whitney Point Spring consignment auction is advertised). I spend a day showing you around a farm consignment auction, looking at the interesting equipment for sale, and explaining how auctions work. I even buy what I was looking for at the end of the day!
Note:
-We do not offer farm tours
-We do not ship our farm's products

Thanks for bringing us along to the auction. Very interesting, the auctioneer starts high to catch some greenhorn who has never been to an auction before.
@@eltsennestle998 but had he waited just a tiny bit more, the sweet spot could be sweeter !
That tumbler you were pointing at that you were trying to figure out what it does, pretty sure it's for screening rocks out of soil...you take a big old scoop of dirt you want to screen, the tumbler spins and releases dirt through the sieve, and the rocks are retained inside the tumbler, then you go dump them in your fencerow. I haven't seen one just like that, but I've seen similar type doodads. That one there actually looks like a pretty nice design.
Thanks for taking me along
@Hello Alan how are you doing
Auctions have their own culture. I've seen newbies get taken to the cleaners because they were unfamiliar with how to bid. My advice is to go to a few auctions before you buy anything. They are great entertainment.
Yep, set your limit on an item and stick to it.
@@allenjohnson94 and know what things are worth before you bid. I've seen people who paid more for a used item than it cost to buy it brand new.
@@thewayidoit8895 you do have to consider all those things in
@@thewayidoit8895 but you don't get any warranty.
Yes ,auctioneers can play you. I've been tricked into bidding higher than I needed to.
Pete is a great knowledgeable person. My son Zach and i were able to meet him at this auction. My son follows all his videos and was estatic to meet him and chat for a few. Made his day and to go-to school and tell his story thanks Pete.
Hi Steve, it was nice meeting you and your son. He is a real go-getter! You should be proud.
Thank you for this, Pete. It was a real joy. I have to tell you I had to stop the video about halfway through and shed a few tears for my grandpap who took me to a lot of auctions over the years. He died a while back, but you never know when an old C tractor a threshing machine might make you miss a loved one. Thanks for that.
I absolutely love farm auctions, yours was pretty big,my wife don’t like it when I go,I end up telling her, honey, look what followed me home! There just so much fun for me.
I love these videos. My grandfather was a farmer through the great depression and by the time he retired, his operation was worth millions. When I was a kid, you'd walk around the farm and find all sorts of re-used materials. You'd even find entire buckets of old used rusty nails where he'd pry them out when a fence was being replaced. I could see him out at a farm auction like this, looking for deals.
Way back when we bought our first farm we used to frequent farm auctions but you get to a point where you really don't need anything else, except maybe having your own auction to get rid of the stuff you don't need anymore 😁
Yes, but what ever you do, don't mention this idea to my wife! 😀
Thanks for taking us along I sure do miss going to auctions with my dad he never really bought much but loved to talk to other farmers captive audience I guess lol
That was very interesting. As a city dweller, all this stuff is like "alien technology." Pretty cool. Your video was great.
My experience lately at farm auctions - The bargains are few and far between. Better off keeping an eagle eye out on Craigslist or Facebook market place. Find a deal and be first to show up with cash in hand. Sellers appreciate a serious buyer. 💵
I've only been to 2 in 10yrs I haven't seen the deals and it seems like a waste of a day. The prices were crazy high compared to CL or FB prices.
I agree!
I haven't been in 5 yrs, but seems to me cl & fb is higher than giraffe vagina.
Seems like auctions use to be hit & miss.
GREAT deals all day , then next month things literaly go for more than new!
There used to be auctioneers locally that could sell glasses to blind people. They could whip up a crowd to pay way more than something was worth....
I've gone to farm auctions for a decade and had never seen anything like 2021 prices. Pretty sure it was a result of stimulus checks.
Thanks for taking us along.
Thanks for brining me along. I’ve never seen an auction like that before. I’ve been to many livestock auctions and estate sales. This was something else!
Thank you for taking us along! I always wanted to go to one, but didn't want to go at it alone. Thank you for explaining what you did :)
They are better with a friend. But they're plenty fun alone too.
My dad use to love auctions. Went to a lot with him & learned a lot from him in the process.
Idk if he talked about getting a number. It's easy, & usually free. But u gotta have one to bid.
Imo-
Get to them a little early so you can get a good look at what u might want to bid on. U can usually "kick tires" & pull on levers or whatever..
You win some & you lose some.
Have fun & good luck.!
Hi Pete. That was a really great video bringing over not only the facts but also the atmosphere of the auction in a very good way. Felt almostcas if I was there myself. Thanks a lot.
Thanks for posting this video. When I was young, my Dad and I often attended farm auctions. Now, my father is gone and there are very few farm auctions taking place. This video took me back and I enjoyed it.
Man thank you for taking the time to show us all that. Much appreciated
Your father is prestige man good bless both of you, enjoyed watching this stuff.
Thanks
Loved this, do it again when you go back!
This video brought back good memories of my dad. I went to many auctions with him when I was a kid.
So awesome you are doing this with your Dad. I miss my Dad everyday. R.I.P. ❤️
I did enjoy the auction! I have not been to one in over a year either. Congratulations on getting the Tedder!! “It ran when it was last parked” Lol, that’s my favorite line I think!!
This man is media trained better than every online professor I’ve ever had
Too bad you haven't had any good online professors! I guess I have been fortunate!
Your dad was a trooper...just enjoyed this video very much
That bucket is common on the pipeline, you get a scoop of dirt and the bucket spins. Dirt falls out and rocks stay in, then you dump the rocks wherever you want. I've only seen them on trackhoes
@@amandar7719 lol it would work, may need a trackhoe at your house though
I bet that was a long day out.
Your efforts are appreciated... :-)
You'll have to show us what you bought in more detail.
So a guy goes to a machinery sale and looks at a manure spreader. He asked the seller about condition. Seller told him he would stand behind it. Bought and took it home and it wouldn't work. He went and jumped the seller who replied, "I told you I would stand behind it, would I do that if it worked? I would be covered in sh*t."
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣I see what you did there
Good one. 🏁

Ben Howell at Stuarts Draft va. has a nice size one several times a year on satderday .
That was interesting. Thanks for taking us along. :)
I was the phone bidder on the other end of the line! Haha. There really was someone there!
I learned a lot today about auctions, thank's
Thank you for that, Pete. Machinery auctions are so similar where ever we live. You could just as well have been in my country, Ireland, at one. You are so right about on line or phone bids. They all may be legit. but there is always that “hmmmm, I wonder”. Sometimes, we loose our sanity at auctions and bid for items we do not really need, or sometimes overpay beyond the value.
I really enjoyed this day out with you. 👏👏👏
Amazing the similarities to auctions here in Scotland, although the implement auction sale at Lanark is still on line only. They even use the same colour of marker pen for lot numbers. Thanks for giving a great overview revealing how thousands of miles don't make much difference in rural ways.
you share a name with one of our extra auctioneers, who helps with this sale every year.
Thanks Pete for taking us along to the auction.
Thank you. Enjoyed the auction.
God bless
Thanks for the video. It brought back memories of when I ran tickets back and forth from the auctioneer truck to the check out. I laughed when you mentioned the smells of an auction.
Thanks for taking us along, got a few tips on how auctions work!
Most auctions sell the JUNK first. Make you suffer thru to the choice JUNK. Make you eat fantastic auction food. Lots of great memories. Really fun when you are a kid.
Excellent video Pete :) to bad couldn't got a couple old tractor and some more implements too buy also! But great information told on video too and glad got one implement peice machinery to take home and fix up!
I just don't care for "Buyers Premium". Good job on explaining the auction 👍👍✌️
BP is nothing but extra auctioneer profit, forced on a captive audience. Hate it. Sleazy.
So cool to see the Clinton tractor sticker on the spreader I live like 10 minutes from there
Stopped going to equipment auctions years ago. The last two that I went to was to buy a trackhoe and a John Deere 4850. Both auctons were to be a absolute auction with the owner of the equipment not to be able to bid against you. I checked out both items before the aucton and talked to the owners of the condition about the equipment. On auction day I was the high bidder until someone came in and the actioneer would always let him bid the item up another 50 to 25 dollars and then work hard at getting me to bid up. Smelling a rat I stopped bidding and left the equipment with the other bidder. While I was walking away the owners walked up to me and asked me if I was willing to buy it for my last bid. I told both of them no, that they could pay for it to be hauled back home to their place. After that I did not wast my time buying equipment at the auction.
If your item your bidding on, is really higher value than your bid, it's not unusual for the auctioneer to have someone bidding for him, then he can store the item till he can sell at a better price, or put it in another auction himself..
Enjoyed this one! Thanks for taking us to the auction.
Fun day at the auction, I love going to them back in Kansas. The estate sales were the best because you could pick up antique items for a little bit of nothing. I loved going to them.
Great video. Good crowd considering the damp weather. Love going to auctions, it's fun watching people bid, how they get caught in the heat of the moment and spend way more than they should. Over the years, got quite a few good deals. Best days are when it is a beautiful sunny day in hay season, most farmers can't come out and bid! LOL. BTW, I am in the hunt for the same type of tedder as you.
love this video, glad you took us along!
Thanks for taking me to the auction. I generally go to this one myself. Been there for stuff in the back row till 9 pm. Fun times there. That G had what looked like Rotavators to me. It would have been rototillers for inrow tilling. You can still buy them. Not sure where anyone around here would use them with all the rocks we grow. Thanks for sharing.
My husband had a friend that took over the family farm in Saskatchewan Canada, farmers love to buy his farm equipment because he took such great care of his, never left them out in the rain and snow like other farmers did.
Nice to see you & dad out and about Pete
What a long day for sure. Thanks for taking us along. Be well.
Very pleasant video. Great description of an auction. They always start real high to whet your appetite.
That old combine was state of the art in the 1950s. As a kid I worked on the farm across the road in the summer and learned all about greasing on a John Deere 12 pull behind combine. We pulled it with a John Deere G. It was a moving dust storm when it was working.
Another aspect to farm life, thanks for sharing Pete. I’ll look forward to seeing that tedder in action.
Thanks Pete. I always enjoy your videos, but this one was super interesting. Looking forward to seeing that tedder in action.
I worked for an auctioneer. The reason for the mixture of different things in the middle is to hold the crowds interest. For example you might be interested in old tractors but another person might be interested in newer tractors or trucks or bailers. By selling a truck, then a old tractor then a manure spreader then another truck the auctioneer keeps everyone in the crowd. If he sold a line of tractors for example one after another, the truck people and the bailing machine/manure spreader people would start walking away. Some of them wouldn't come back. It's all about controlling the crowd and keeping them with the auctioneer.
I've been to a lot of auctions, always a fun time with a little excitement! Glad to see all those people mask free!!
Always a good day at auction with dad there thanks for sharing
"There's nothing like the smell of auction: diesel fuel, cigarettes, burnt hamburgers, and old oil." Well, said, Pete.
We need to patten that smell!!!
Where I live it’s- Ave gas, burnt hamburger, sun block, and dead carp!!!
One of my favorite things in life. Just watching this gives me a cheap hotdog upset stomach.

My father owned one of those potatoe diggers, you can rig up a stone boat with short sides and collect potatoes that way.
Thanks for a great view of a farm auction. Really enjoyed the video.
Had so much fun watching this. Reminded of my dad and I going to the auctions. Eating chili and having a good time. Thanks for sharing!!
One of the best things to do with a rainy day! Gotta love it.
Topic suggestion for your Sunday videos. How to balance family and farm. I know you want to keep your family life at least semi private and your kids are older and in high school but when you were first starting out with younger children and family obligations, plus your previous occupation, the best way to handle even day to day home chores with everything else. Big fan of your channel.
Thank you👍I enjoyed going to the auction with you 😁😷
You're doing a good job you're living the way I grew up
I love auctions! Thanks for taking us along!
I'm glad you were finally able to upgrade the tedder!!
Awesome guy! I Love watching your content! Reminds me of Jay Leno! LOL 😆!
Thanks for showing us the auction ,
Congratulations on your tedder, nice price, can't wait to see you go through it!
we have been at auctions where the stuff went for more than at the store. we called it auction fever. and yes I've never heard of buyets premium. you're right it doesn't seem right.
Love going to Auctions I go to about 2 a month. You can get a lot of good deals but it's important not to bring home junk.
Good day, good fun, & going home with something You won !!! (At 30mph... Lol). Looking forward to seeing it cleaned up, & working hay

I’ve noticed an auctioneer will normally start the bid where he is actually hoping to end up at $ wise , knowing he has to start much lower to get the bid started
Pete I felt as if I’m by the auction! Love the way you make your videos! Keep going!
Thank you!
Thanks for the look at the auction. Really nice.
I love farm auctions!!
i love that auction,if i hadnt hd to work my real job i would have been there slgging in the mud just to see what stuff was there, and who was buying what.thanks for taking us along,it was a great way to see the event.look forward to seeing you use your new tedder this season.
thanks 4 your time
Nice video. Now I am originally from Chautauqua County, but even i had no idea where you were going for the auction. Googled it and now I know.
Big hello to all you American Farmers from myself in Scotland (Aberdeen Angus Breeder) The best Steak you will ever eat !!
I use to go to farm auctions all the time. Now due to covid am unable to get to them. They are a lot of fun to go to. All the best with your auction buy.
Very interesting. Thanks for the report. I bought my smallholding in North Wales UK at auction in 1997, a great investment!
Awesome video!!! Love the auctions! Glad you got what you went for!!!!
In Western Canada where I live, this auction would have been shut down for lack of distancing and no mask wearing... all auctions are online only going back a year or more.
Very interesting bunch of equipment though.
Wow, where was this? My kinda place/event...not so much the weather, but beggars can't be choosy 😁
Really enjoyed your video.....Farm auctions are always a good time!
I love auctions. So many memories with my grandpa going to them. Learned how to look at equipment with him, and I use that knowledge now growing to fleet.
My personal record for staying at an auction was in Maryville, TN; I was worn out and left at 10 PM - it did not end until after midnight. Tim
Great job Pete👍👍
Thanks for the overview! I’m closing on 30 acres at the end of the week. I’m going from a subdivision to the “farm”. Gonna need some stuff. Been watching auctions for tractor and UTV…this has been helpful.
After some thought, I would have bid on that thresher. Wood construction, hand feed, drag stacker & the bagging chute down below on the side. Such a neat piece that looked to be complete, minus the belts & it went dirt cheap. Thanks for posting it as most other channels just walk past such things. I personally like the true antiques & horse drawn stuff. It's what makes the Amish auctions that much more appealing to me.... though they are getting rather newfangled these days. Regards!
Market/Auction days are really great!
Thanks so much - you have an excellent YT channel - much appreciated. I subscribe and click all the ads for happier days.
Really enjoy the farm equipment auctions and seeing the prices in other areas of the country!
I am never early anymore! I just don’t have time to watch UA-cam like I used to, but I’ll still watch every video! See you tomorrow or Tuesday!
Wow, great video! Thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge. I’ve seen machinery with the motor oil treatment and wondered how it got that way and now I understand. Thanks.
Thanks for your time. You made a nice video out of it.
great video, thanks for taking us along
I started watching your videos and i like them god bless you and your wife as well. Im from Eagle Pass Tx
That huge bucket is for picking stones out from the dirt. It rotates so it is very handy in cleaning a huge stone debry field. Pete, have you thought of making your own manure spreader? Not much engineering needed but it would mean the cost of the raw materials may become a issue?
