i found a hard body for mine , its actually a smaller body , and it looks like a mud truck , the wheelbase was perfect , no mods at all ,and it has a full bed , and the hinge mechanism fitted perfectly , a couple of magnets and the body stays on perfect
I swapped on an 1:20 AMT GMC Sonoma. Took a bit of work and I was going to keep the battery under the hood but I wanted the body to sit low. I used the original front bumper and bracket, cut down to fit in the model bumper slot and then 3D printed a bracket for the bed to score into so the body was removable without pins. Battery is velcroed to the bed at this time.
The revell 79 chevy stepside fits the deadbolt short wheelbase pretty well and I managed a full interior. I did need to print a lot of custom parts tho. Still have paint and lights wiring left.
@@eduardsklyanin8541 whatever you say bud. They dont have different wheelbases. The deadbolt is short in the front but longer in the rear and vice versa. each rig will have the axles sit in the same position coming in at 133mm for all of the models. Look it up.
The Land Rover 101 was a cab over. They were originally made for the military then sold onto the public once they stopped using them. Loving the build so far.
Lovin these SCX24's. Got one about a year ago, now have 3 and only one is kinda stock lol. Good fun, very capable, easily take anywhere, little crawlers. Thanks for this build series, it's awesome to see what people can do with these trucks. Some are truly 🔥
I also adapted the '92 Hilux but I left the chassis stock so I could go back to the Deadbolt body if I wanted. I installed the dashboard and driver's seat. But I had to trim the centre console and floor out to accomodate the battery. Looks great! Not sure about performance though, it's pretty top heavy. I may need BRASS!!!
That’s crazy I bought that same body a few months back. I decided to change my custom built c10 into a cabover, but then I saw the Land Rover kit and couldn’t resist. But a coe rover? That’s pretty awesome! Your microshark build is what got me into scx24’s and watching your channel.
This will be the first build off that I have started watching as they are produced rather than binge watching previous years. I have a 3D printer now, so looking forward to see how you solve mounting the static model parts on the chassis. I will try to catch the live stream tonight.
This is TOTALLY AWESOME! Honestly from the thumb nail it kinds looked like a Jeep FC. I love your creativity and imagination on these projects. I bought the same cage to make a Truggy version but now you have me looking at other options. 😁👍
That is so cool looking! I love the cab over mods. I have 2 70s GMC Sierra hard body trucks from Revell, and they are PERFECT for the SCX24. I had to trim out the engine compartment, but it works really well on this rig, and would highly recommend that hardbody to anyone looking for a good looking truck for their first SCX24 hardbody
Wow, I didn't even think of using a model kit for something like this! I'm sure it's been done before, but I am a huge fan of the Nissan Hardbody. Together with that cage, I think it would look killer!! Thanks for the ideas!
Fun ideas, I like the shirt. Perhaps Scale Builders Guild and Berm Peak Express can do a build-off in 2022? I learned about Seth and his channels when he was injured and had to entertain himself, diving straight into scale crawlers, too compensate for the lack of all terrain bicycles. It's a great cross-over too, off-road cycling and rc cralwing, so interesting! In the mean time, I am very much looking forward to more 2021 SBG and Harley Designs build-off, so thank you as always.
Okay you hit it out of the park with this one. Such a cool idea and look for such a tiny build. As you have in the past you have awed me with your talent sir. good on ya
The 1/20 scale Toyota 4x4 model kit fits the deadbolt almost perfectly. I shortened the bed, cut and flared the fenders slightly, heated it up and shoved pieces of gravel and scraped it with rocks to give it realistic scale dents, scrapes and gouges, put some holes in it and painted it to have rust and fading paint, I even managed to get most of the interior in it (dashboard, steering wheel, seats) but had to cut a “tunnel” through the center of the dash and the seats to fit my battery and wires. And just for shits and giggles I got cocky with it and made a really small hood latch that when I pull it, the hood pops open. I was going to try to fit some sort of winch set up under the hood but not sure how I am going to achieve that with the limited space that I have so I may just make an engine bay for it and basically cut the motor in half. Oh and it’s got working headlights, tail lights and marker lights, and not the bright bluish white headlights that come with it, custom harness.
I really like the static body on this build with the bed cage added there will not be another like it and I’m sure with your skills it’ll come out looking bad ass
This was a very cool video and I loved the idea that you went with modifying a 1:24 scale model kit to use on your project! I especially love that ECX Barrage Rear Cage you went with to finish it out!
I like the static model body conversions. But I'm old. I remember when models were $7. Now they're so expensive, I just can't spend all that, just to throw most of it away
COE is an epic choice here. Ive been looking at different static models for a couple weeks now for my scx24, and most everytime I come back to the thought of printing my own body, then promptly remembering the eternity in blender it would take to make a forza game model printable. Then I go back to looking at static models and the cycle repeats itself. I really like the idea of a Pajero or Landcruiser body as there seem to be some good Hasegawa, Aeoshima, and Tamiya options there. Id love to build a Jimny too though...
O sure be all creative with great artistic skills. Go ahead and give it your best. You know Josh is going to put a big #3 sticker on the side of his Betty and everyone will vote for him.
I picked up the cage as well...lol its held on by e6000 right now on my deadbolt...ordered the barrage body to try and make a mini trail honcho can't wait for the next video
If anyone else put this forward as an idea I would say they were nuts but I think you got the skills to buy the bills to pull this off. Don't let that cutting blade get away on you now. 👍👍
I used a diecast ford 1/24. It was tricky getting it on but it works. I was going to go with a humvee body but when i went back to the store it was gone.
I didn't get into the SCX24 when it came out and I lost my RC squad when I moved just before COVID so I didn't get into a new group after I moved. I am working on finishing a hard body for me Enduro builder kit.
When/If you move on to wheels and tires, the Injora ones on Amazon are fantastic and very affordable. The tires that look like mini hyraxes perform great and the beadlocks assemble easily and look decent. Sub $30 for a set of 4 wheels and tires.
Just so you know they make a double barrel kinetic shocks for the 24 scale crawlers, that expand s the flex dramatically. Keep up the great work love your videos. Thanks again
That's really cool. When the scx24 came out I was really hoping they would stick to a true 1/24 scale. Think of all the bodies and mods that would have already existed, just waiting to be added. All well. You've got some mad skills!
love the use of the 1:24th rover. I also used a 1:24th scale model (an f100 ford) onto my proline ambush, its a 1:25th scale crawler and it looks SO scale
What a cool odd duck truck. I think it’s a great overland oddity and I’m looking forward to seeing future videos. I am excited to work with styrene in the future.
So glad y’all are doin this series 👍 and it looks like you changed the light you weren’t happy with lol. But if josh vacuum forms a mini Lloyd body, he wins by default
It sort of reminds me of a LR forward control 101 only the front is flat unlike this one that has a little poking out at the front. Looks great though.
I dig the COE Rover. I've got the 1:20 Hilux you mentioned on a Proline Ambush chassis. It would've been much easier on the SCX24 but at least I've got leaf springs! My SCX24 is pretty much a micro comp rig, wouldn't dream of hindering the performance with a hard body.
I have a square body Chevy I'm workin on, its the orange snowplower static model, got it from hobby lobby, still figuring out how and what I'm gonna actually do with it, so short term did a quick strip and repaint of the original deadbolt body.
Nice idea, it looks great! A little like land rover's 101 forward control only less ugly :P The 101 had a PTO shaft at the rear that could drive the wheels of a towed trailer making a very capable off road vehicle indeed.
I of course put the yoter 92 4x4 pickup from AMT of my first scx24. Doved the bed on it as a quick toss on. I have a Nissan hardbody in the cabinet I believe for the next attempt.
Currently on my bench... 18th scale (Toy RC) buggy width-chopped frame to 1:24th on FTX mini 3.0. The USA1 (de-monster trucked to a Silverado and shortened) on the FTX 2.0. Aaand finally, (messy bench), the 2017 snap Raptor on the SG1802 (55 LEDs!)... Meh, not finally, there's an Orlandoo/WellyRC/diecast and a K989/AMC Challenger there too, lol.
Land Rover made two types of forward control (cab over) the series 2B not too dissimilar to the modified kit body your building and the FC101 military gun tractor (very square) pics of both type are on the web, interesting bit of film trivia the fc101 was used as a base for the taxi’s in the Stallone version of Judge Dredd
I got a revell unimog U 1300 L 2t military 1/24 scale, that I’m putting on a 1/24 scale chassis. It’s not the scx24 but basically the same. It’s coming along very well
There is actually some very similar land rover cab overs... One being the land rover 101 and one being these odd fire engine/ambulance ones... Search land rover series forward Control fire engine and u should find them 👍🏻👍🏻
Your artistry is only exceeded by your madness. I love it.
Very close looking to Land Rover forward control. Looks fantastic 👍
My word Matt. You never cease to amaze me. I’d love to see some content on how to chopped that body. You are great at what you do.
I'll definitely go over that. Maybe this coming Tuesday as some bonus content!
i found a hard body for mine , its actually a smaller body , and it looks like a mud truck , the wheelbase was perfect , no mods at all ,and it has a full bed , and the hinge mechanism fitted perfectly , a couple of magnets and the body stays on perfect
With your modeling skills, this is like bringing a gun to a knife fight. Josh doesn’t stand a chance.
I swapped on an 1:20 AMT GMC Sonoma. Took a bit of work and I was going to keep the battery under the hood but I wanted the body to sit low. Totally love it. King of Unimogish. I’d expect nothing less from you👍🏼👍🏼
The revell 79 chevy stepside fits the deadbolt short wheelbase pretty well and I managed a full interior. I did need to print a lot of custom parts tho. Still have paint and lights wiring left.
All scx24 have the same wheelbase just a heads up. The link sizes just vary but ends up being the same wheelbase besides like maybe 2mm or so.
Let's see some video on here of it! I'm subscribed in anticipation 😳
@@markus8834 the deadbolt has shorter links and shorter driveshaft included with it for the rear, so no the wheelbase isn't the same.
@@ricklewis950 I don't really post vids but I'll try, still in the middle of painting it when I have time.
@@eduardsklyanin8541 whatever you say bud. They dont have different wheelbases. The deadbolt is short in the front but longer in the rear and vice versa. each rig will have the axles sit in the same position coming in at 133mm for all of the models. Look it up.

101 forward control!!!! Now that’s cool!!!!!

After Josh's rant over the forward control Jeep body, I am extra excited about you making a COE Land Rover.
Overlanding cabover landrover, say that 3 times fast!!!
I like it, looks awesome.

Super keen on seeing how this comes together!
Dang Matt that's so goofy it's awesome! Can't wait to see it finished.

I’ll take two please! Lol. I love the “good old fashion thinking” you bring to these builds.

that leftover is just enough for some amazon wheel spacers...

Looks like one of those Polar Bear watching Tundra Buggy things.
Did not expect to have that body in my recommended that’s nice
I mounted a Ford Ecoline van body onto my SCX24, It's top heavy and doesn't perform well, but it looks cool and makes me happy.
The Revell 1/24 Ramcharger body looks pretty good 👍 saw a build of one with the fenders majorly cut and the body mounted low, looked like a TTC truck!
Love it, Cab over is brilliant,
that looks like start to an epic camper rig.

Looks awesome already
After seeing that rear end for the ecx it really has me thinking about putting that on the C10 body
Man I love that truck it really looks cool I think I’ll try to thank you
i think it is good choice and much better look for the tired old land rover style body
AMAZING.
You must of done some staring at this one!
That blade is the “antidremmel”
Thanks.

Fully aware! Nothing was done in this way with the series III.
In the 60s there was fire engine called the Carmichael redwing FT6 and it very much resembled the body design.
Love it Matt!
DANG!!! That is killer!!! It will be interesting to see what Hardly did!!!🤣🤣🤣
I think you should save 2 weeks worth of budget and get the Furitek brushless combo!
I got a revell unimog U 1300 L 2t military 1/24 scale, that I’m putting on a 1/24 scale chassis. It’s not the scx24 but basically the same. It’s coming along very well
I used the same one on a Proline Ambush a few years back! Great choice!
Yeah !!! A Defender 110 Bus ! LOVE IT. Now in scale 1/10 ... :o)
Cool build. I’ve got a couple SCX24s, Wrangler for son, and the Betty(Barbara now, had to fix it) for me.
I'm in the process of putting a 1980 toyota pickup model on a losi micro crawler. I think it will look more scale next to my scx24 c10.
I looked at that kit too... looks ripe for 24th scale RC truckificating. (Newly found respect and appreciation for 80's kitch stripes K)

It almost looks like an off road VW Bus :)
That first episode, meh, not much to see. But, that body and roll cage, you got me hook, line and sinker! Can't wait for next week!
08 Jeep Honcho ice patrol fit pretty nice on the deadbolt
You're crazy, you know that, right? But I still like you and I admire the creativity you have :)
Since you already did the axles look at the Mil Stone wheel weights they widen it just a little bit.
Already on the way for a future week, Matt! I have them on the Microshark and it’s a great addition.
