    I've had a lot of very cheap R/C cars over the last 40 years from companies like New Bright, etc. and I've never taken a deep dive into the hobby before but now that I have children I'm looking into this as a hobby that I can do with my boys as they grow and teach them to save their allowance money up to buy upgrades and to just have some fun with Dad! I've been doing a lot of research so far and it seems like the Axial SCX24 would be the best place for us to start, I'm gravitating more towards the 1:10 scale stuff but the smaller 1:24 scale stuff looks really fun and cool too! I'm thinking that the best thing to start with and I'm a Noob to this (but I do work on real Hot Rods, 4x4 Trucks and Jeeps too!) but I have to agree with you that you made the best choice to get the center of gravity and the weight down lower, I liked the upgrades you chose, maybe even the brass diff covers as well, next I think I would go with the aluminum suspension kit, and/or weighted wheel and tire kits, and since you now have stronger, heavier axles go with larger tires, then maybe upgrades to the servos due to all the added weight, then I think I would handle the cosmetics like the body swap and the details like adding more lights, etc. I just Subbed BTW!

    Already spent it, reefs 99 with DSM servo mount, sidewinder micro 2, gamy rc motor mount and little cheap eBay 1408 outrunner. Brass, wide axle kit w/ Brass, stretched with C-10 front links on the deadbolt 145mm now. Cut some generic dollar store soldiers head off to replace helmet. Eliminated light bar with a tree sprag that was laying around. Mod 19 rock sliders to mount new electronics on. Running on 3s 450mah battery. Hot racing shocks with softest springs set as droop essentially mounted shocks on drastic angle to the chassis for droop. Rc4wd breaker wheels with scramblers. Treal Overdrive front diff gears. Obviously moved over to an SR215 and driving with DX5c. Stinger front bumper from Thingiverse! Oh and that’s just 1 of the 4 scx24s I have. I also have what I refer to as the Stroker Betty because it’s number “383”!

    Here's a tip for anyone building a SCX24, use the shorter wheels and tires from a RGT/Barrage/CR24 and a 1/20 scale body, not 1/24 or 1/25. This ends up looking dam near dead on like a 1:1 scale rig on 38s. Iirc the Lindberg "Big 1/20 Scale" Ford Explorer Sport even fits the Deadbolt wheelbase perfect 👍 Yes, the shorter tires effect performance, but if scale looks are what your after I think this is as close to true to scale as you can get on a SCX24

    I have four SCX24's. The front axles are not typically a point of failure unless you're a terrible driver. IMO, unless you're trying to go wider, they're a waste of money in a budget build-off like this. Put that money into a stronger servo or wheels/tires. The brass knuckles are a good part.

    I have 4 all modified differently. A deadbolt that I turned into a bouncer style buggy with true 4WS, double barrel shocks, stretched with rear links on the front and rear lots of brass, and Furitech speed control. A C10 back halved with MOFO RC flatbed and double barrel shocks and lots of brass. A C10 with MOFO RC Truggy kit that I left the bed side’s and tailgate and rear trailing arms, gutted front axle, hot racing internal spring shock, a fast motor, and a bigger battery 2WD Pre runner style. And a C10 that I beefed up the suspension with hot racing oil shocks to pull the triple axle gooseneck trailer I built to haul the rest.

    Furitek ESC, hands down the best upgrade you can do to the 24. Throw in a aftermarket rx and radio for even better resolution and slow speed capability, though the stock esc used as the rx will still work.
    Almost forgot, get the bluetooth module too so you can tune that increased capability.

    I have 5 SCX24's, at least one of each, except the Betty. I just picked up the 1993 Ford F150 clear body that I am going to put on one of the C-10 chassis'. One thing to give a heads up that I have found out to add body clearance, move the shocks off the towers and they will bolt directly on to the frame so you are not having to do major trimming to the Jeep and C-10 bodies when you increase tire size.

    I began following you and Harley Designs some time ago. After a lengthy absence from the RC hobby, I was excited to hear about this build challenge. I was really anticipating this series because I began building an SCX24 Deadbolt from scratch as my reentry back into the hobby. However, after watching both you & Josh’s videos this week, I have a question for you: Is this considered a “budget build” or “budget modification”? I am currently in my initial phase which is building out the chassis. I will pose the same question to Josh on his video in hopes to get a reply from at least one of you guys. Looking forward to the challenge and your videos!

    • @scalebuildersguild
      @scalebuildersguild  3 роки тому +1

      Not sure I understand the question. We name this series the Budget Build-Off, in that we're both building trucks. Not necessarily from scratch, as we usually start with an RTR. I guess a more accurate description would be Budget Upgrade, but that doesn't really roll off the tongue. 😉Thanks for watching!

    • @OgreSupreme
      @OgreSupreme 3 роки тому

      @@scalebuildersguild Yes, I meant from scratch. I guess I'll just need to follow the Deadbolt exploded view in the hopes of getting it right.

    I have2: a c10 with lots of brass and brushless, and a Jeep that is stock with RC4WD tires on stock rims. The c10 was a headache to get to this point, but is a real treat to drive, and finally feels reliable
    The stock jeep is very tippy, but with only a tire upgrade and steel washers will follow any line with careful driving. Throttle control from a Furitek is fantastic, and is a very valuable plug-n-play upgrade for a brushed setup. Jeep might be getting one soon and call that truck good!

My first experiance with a mini RC car was the orgional MiniT and Mini LST trucks. I had to spend an inordinate amount of money getting them to where I was happy with them. On the on road side of thing's I had a really tiny stock car, i think that it must have been 1/24 scale by BSR. I also have a Duratrax 1/18 scale Vendetta touring car. The most rare car of all my mini's is a Splashett edition professional kit version of the SPORTWERKS Recoil 1/14th scale Recoil touring car.It was the equivalent to say an Team Associated TC Team series 1/10th scale touring car. All carbon fiber and aluminum. I guess that I have had a few mini class RC cars. You asked!

    I've just started watching both builds to see which direction you both go. I've got a c10, stock at the moment, got some parts on order.
    Love the look of that yellow buggy, I'll be checking out that link for sure 👍

    I'd buy 3 more, plenty of spare parts when my son starts driving it and breaks it. I can drive with him until he breaks the same par 3 times(or 6 for parts that can switch left to right).

    $50 a week budget build with Injora is what I'm gonna do. First week with $50 you can get upgraded servo, and front and rear aluminum axle housing

    20 bucks vs. 200-300 $ upgraded SCX24, put a video up last weekend. You won't believe which one is more capable. Best 20 bucks upgrade is AS12/6 ESC, better than 100 $ Furitek Komodo/Lizard brushless combo.

    One upgrade I’d recommend is aluminum steering/drag links.

    Love the video and this build off!! It’s a great rig todo a build off with. I have 4 of them and a bunch of custom hardbodies I have made for them. A $400 budget sounds like a crazy number for that little truck but I know I have more then that in one or two 😂. Good Luck to you guys! Looking forward to watching as it goes along 🤙🏼

    I love the small scx24s. I got the C10 because i think it looks best. i added allmost 50 grams without spending any Money but the performance is much better. Yours will be awesome with all that brass. I also changed the shockposition to increase the flex.
    Nice to see the little rigs on your channel and im interessted how you change the look to get it more scale.

    I have two that are heavily modded. My advice is lower the weight by reducing top weight and moving as much weight forward and downward as you can. With some creative solutions this can be done for free. Shick postion body lowering moving the battery etc.Once you have maxed out your free mods then add brass weights. Adding weight helps but you can waste a lot of money on brass parts that add too much weight and do you not favors. Such as brass axle widener weights.

    Kinda Bonkers, I grabbed up a lightly modified scx24 a couple days before I saw yall announce this! For me Its gotta be best of both worlds. Hard body something (liking the looks of the Pajero models at the moment) and a furitek tegu/komodo motor esc setup with an nsdrc servo upgrade! nice lil sanwa micro rx to wrap things up then I might be happy.
