I have to admit, "I am the night, tyrant of the shade/I am the spite, I am the pain repaid" is honestly one of the best summaries of Batman's entire character I've ever seen, easily up there with the famous "I'm the vengeance, I am the night!".
"I am NOT a failure! ...I am vengeance! I am the night! I AM BATMAN!" was one of the DCAU's best moments period. (Up there for me with Batman talking down Ace, and Terry finally getting the Batman theme song.)
I just realized how fitting calling Batman a tyrant of the shade is. Not only is he a cruel ruler of the shade, but in ancient Greece a tyrant was someone who seized power without having a right to it. In the same way the shade doesn't rightfully belong to Batman, but he took it, and he rules it with an iron fist. Well played Gav. Well played.
I love how these songs have throwbacks to older songs but the old lyrics have new important meanings. The "Check my head, I guess the joke's on me" line means SO much to this game, it's almost as if Gav knew the plot of this game when he wrote Mind of the Bat. Now THAT is good writing.
1:01 This might be the best description of batman for me, more than justice he brings pain that he can't never fully transfer into all the criminals that could wear the face of Joe Chill
"Check my head I guess the joke's one me, I'm not laughing at the irony" killed me. I love when you do stuff like that from previous songs, like in the DAI one.
NinetyNineNo All of Riddler's 'main' riddles in the storyline are Batmobile based puzzles and races, inter-spaced with co-op sequences between Batman and Catwoman
"I am the spite. I am the pain _repaid._ " Holy shit that gives me chills, that's the best description of Batman ever. I've listened to this 20 times in the last week, I love it
Ludvig Holm Thank you. Writing choruses is the hardest part of songwriting for me. It's very difficult to balance the fine line between memorable/catchy and cheezey/throwaway
miracleofsound Given the rate at which these are released, I can barely imagine the deluge of music you'd put out if you ever threw quality control (with all the delay it creates) away. My head would probably explode if such a thing happened, and I take comfort from the fact that it won't. You're arguably my favorite person on the internet, and certainly my favorite musician.
miracleofsound Now, I've always found the choruses the easiest part of the song, and the narrative hard. Which is strange, since I can write stories no problem. Just needing to form the narrative in rhyme is hard for me, I guess.
Amazing Song, and i think the fact that it Blurs the line between Hero and Villian is Precisely where Batman Dwells, this makes it Utterly perfect for Him!
@@petercoulam1101 In the first game he placed trophies all over the Asylum. Yes, not a crime but in the video tapes it is mentioned that the Riddler often put people in testing chambers which they usually didn't survive in because according to him "They would have survived if they weren't so stupid"
This is awesome. After finishing the story to Arkham Knight, there was nothing else I wanted you to write a song about more, and you have done it better than I could have ever hoped for. When I saw the title, I loved it, and had in my mind what the chorus would be like for one of the most iconic Batman lines of all time, and Gav, you captured it perfectly. I love the subtle bits like your jab at the riddle races which also calls to mind the feeling of rushed anxiety as Batman faces the task of completing all these tasks in one night. I love the little bits referring to the most prevalent part of the story (and twist). They are noticeable if you know the story, but, because this song is what Batman shows to the world, it's not overt, just like how he's trying to contain it so no one else has to know in the game. This is sheer awesomeness Gav- the wait for Level 6 is going to be a tough one :)
The Arkham games have been a tribute to the history of the Batman, giving nods to little things that make the character able to cross generations. Like the Gray Ghost posters in the Clock-tower, & the faithful adaptation of some of the most important elements of the batman mythos, like Killing The Joke. This is a tribute to a tribute & a great one at that, way to raise the bar Gav!
I love this song, it's just pure awesomeness. Also, that moment at about 0:50 when Two-face fires a rocket, batman jumps out of the car and the chorus starts is the most epic thing i've seen in a long time.
Always gotta be that one thing that gets us lurkers out of the woodwork eh? Well for me it's this one. Thanks Gav. I wrote you back when I was writing my bachelor thesis, and you were super nice. Now I'm less than three weeks away from turning in my master's thesis (which happens to be about Batman), in need of a pick-me-up, as proof-reading gets really f'ing boring - and you put out this track. You're a lifesaver. Like, you know... Batman.
Hey Gav! I just wanted to say... This was AMAZING!!! Pure work of art. I especially loved the parts when you make it drop heavily onto a dramatic and epic moment like 0:55 I have seen you do this in Bloodborne song and Dark Souls II song. I highly request you keep making those catchy moments for us dear viewers! Stay awesome dude!
I love how jokers song sound more villainess and upbeat, showing his true character, while batman's song is more heroic and somber, showing how he is a hero, but only does it cause his parents died. EDIT: Why did I write this? What's wrong with me?
Just noticed something cool. The lyrics at 1:50 are from mind of the bat and at around 2:18 it has some of the melody from Rise. I love when you do stuff like that. Also just generally love your music.
This is an unbelievably amazing song, I don't see how there could be a more apt definition for "Miracle of Sound." I have been listening to your songs for about 3 years now (ever since the Commander Shepard song) and I haven't heard a single one I didn't like. I honestly don't get why you don't have more subscribers, you are one of the best and most deserving artists on UA-cam, and one of the best musicians I've heard.
Oh my goodness. The audio is absolutely luscious. I mean, I can actually feel the music all over my ears. It's an experience, truly. Excellent work, to say the least. That new mic of yours was definitely a worthy investment. P.s. Loved the calls back to Mind of the Bat and Rise.
Jennifer Alt Thanks! Yeah the new vocal mic makes quite a difference. It brings out the vocal flaws more too so had to give a better performance than usual haha. The orchestral bits took feckin forever to compose & make but I am happy with the result & feel it was worth it :)
miracleofsound next you should make a ARK survival evolved song, as it is preastoric and we havent heard any jungley music. I think this would be great, like if you also agree, PS. Great song
Just pure awesome, Gav you've outdone every Batman song you've done before! Also I can help but notice that the tune or melody of this song sounds very similar to Rise's. I can't help but think that's intentional.

Man, so much of this feels like it would be right at home in the soundtrack to the Nolan movies, and that is a very good thing. Plus the lyrical and musical references to mind of the bat were just perfect. A+. Loving the results that this slower schedule is showing.
I don't know how I missed this song when it came out. This is amazing. I love the musical callbacks to Rise and the use of lyrics from Mind of the Bat. Well done, Gav!
+Kristian Bailey Agreed, I feel like it adds a sense of continuity to the songs, like even if you couldn't see the videos themselves you could tell they followed on from one another just by listening to the lyrics. It's like each song Gav does for a franchise is one link in a larger chain.

This song is amazing and it fits Batman perfectly. It's scary as fuck, dark, menacing and seems evil, just like Batman. And like I don't think "The mind of the Bat" fits Batman, this one is like the ultimate Batman song. Great work, love it.
This exciting, strong and beautiful song deserves first place in Billboard. You managed perfectly convey the darkness, that comes with Batman. I think this is my favorite of your Arkham series-based songs. The orchestra was excellent, the lyrics and vocals were incredible as always. This is truly the song Batman deserves... but... the one it also needs? I dunno, drawing a blank here. As always, intelligent lyrics, heart-pumping chorus and magical throwbacks to "Mind of the Bat", both in melody and in lyrics. Another one of my faves... and I have way too many of yours to count! Dc should look to the Arkham games to make movies. These games have their characters down right. Not a Batman who kills but a Batman who’s lost too much but still fights.
Haunting! I simply adore how elements of each past Batman song of yours factor into this one, and they all fit so well! Thank you for never failing to deliver amazing pieces like this!

you're lyrics are so good they can be appreciated as poetry.
Rest in peace Kevin
Incredible, captures the essence of arkham knight, also love the jab at the riddle race
It's SO epic and beautiful, I can't breathe...
Just noticed this was released on my birthday last year. Thank you for the present Gav
Anyone here after hearing Kevin Conroy died
RIP you legend
Masterful as always!
Keep up the amazing work, Gav!
"This riddles just a race..." That's for sure. My 4 attempts on the cross Gotham race are a testament to that.
Honestly if the Arkham games got a movie series it'd probably be enough to kick marvel out of theaters and give DC the spotlight
Not even. Just ONE Arkhamverse movie, and not even the return of RDJ would bring back Marvel’s box office.
Dc should look to the Arkham games to make movies. These games have their characters down right. Not a Batman who kills but a Batman who’s lost too much but still fights.
All I want is for the fanwar to be destroyed.
Though, an Arkhamverse movie series does sound cool.
We all do, Robert Simon.
I agree
Haunting! I simply adore how elements of each past Batman song of yours factor into this one, and they all fit so well! Thank you for never failing to deliver amazing pieces like this!
I feel like this was made for me. This is perfect. So good I must have trained to this about fifty times. Gets me so pumped. Love it.
I love how you tie in previous songs that came before. You did it for dragon age and you did it here. like others, some instance the music is like rise and mind of the bat with lyrics from mind of the bat put in perfectly. great work man.
