The Darker Meaning Behind CHANDELIER
The True Meaning Behind CHANDELIER
Sia Chandelier Lyrics Meaning and Analysis
Why Does Sia Hide Her Face?
I'm surprised you didn't mention that the chandelier line can very easily be interpreted as having committed suicide as well
At 2:48 he mentioned her contemplating taking her life.
UA-cam would ban video with suicidal topic
probably because sia herself has already talked about what this song means and she didn't say that.
@@CaseyMeeko only shadow ban tho, so it’s a nice lil gray area :)
It’s meaning represents addiction much more than suicide
She’s forced back to drinking because the verses are supposed to be the same.
Ahhh… bloody genius.
I think you would have a field day if you try to dip your toes of Bjork's discography and how much she held the torch of artpop throughout 3 decades, especially with the release of her new album
Hey, I really appreciate your username.
mid
@@beaualIoevv Bjork is on her way to beat you up just like she beaten up that one journalist in Bangkok
Yup that comment
Yes please. Her discography is very big including songs she helped for other artists.
I was obsessed with Sia. When I first heard her at a car ride with friend, I honestly cried hearing Chandelier for it resonated so much with me. She is a god with how she writes and had to know more of her music. Her track "Soon will be found" was my saving grace in a relationship turned sour. I'm lying if I say Sia did not help me go through my depressing life as a 20 year old back then.
It's like we shared same DNA, plus I love electric bird and Dress in black too!
i always thought it was super clear that it was about drug addiction and suicide and all the struggles Sia sadly has been going through in her youth
I’d love to hear a breakdown of her ‘Elastic Hearts’ music video. It’s garnered controversy but I see that video as much more than one reading, it’s truly fascinating
Can't explain how much this song means to me. Sia might have changed my life
Sia is a voice of generation. Her poetry is amazing, her voice is soul-touching, she's inspired thousands of us
Too bad she's kind of a terrible person.
@@jacehackworth6413 she is the best person on this planet
@@taj____ I guess you never heard of the movie she made.
have you heard of the movie she’s made yet
@@taj____ as an autistic woman, I would recommend against that opinion.
With the suicidal aspect, I find myself wondering if 'swing from the chandelier' has more of a 'at the end of a rope' meaning to it...I'm one of those strange people who listen to the lyrics rather than just bop to the song, and caught the dark side of the song, but got a chill at the revelation about suicidal feelings. I may never hear that song again without seeing the noose in my mind, now...
I love these lyrics breakdowns, it gives new meaning to songs i have heard a lot already. I would love more of this!
I remember when I discovered Sia through Zero 7. My friend introduced me to Zero 7 on their debut album where Sia did vocals on a few tracks and I was blown away by voice. I followed her career since 2001 and starting with her third album I bought every single one that followed.
Chandelier is basically a more radio-friendly (but also more subtle) version of Regina Spektor's Buildings. It's also about alcoholism, it's just as meaningfully repetitive, and it has a similarly ambiguous ending.
Or Magical Doctor which is about Drug addiction
I’m always listening to the lyrics very very dark….. and relatable
I felt the true meaning of the song when I first heard it. As I struggle with suicidal taughts myself it felt really close to home.
06:25
I just had to pause the video to recover from this.
My god, it has been a long time since I've felt like this listening to someone sing
Damn, another banger from you, i always love your videos even if i do not know the artist you are talking about, i have discovered artists through your videos. Keep up the great work.
Ik that this isn't the main point of the video but the editing is chef kiss
I'd also like to add that this song is used in the Broadway version of moulin rouge to express Satine's situation. Perfect song choice imo
Sia have to realize that her greatness shines like a diamond. No matter how much she hides it 🥰🥰🥰🥰 i love her
I always wonder why SIA hasn't transformed into a icon now such as how The Weeknd transformed from just an artist into a global icon, like SIA already has gimmick (Black & white wig) & paired with her vocals she could've been a legend
She is a legend tho
I'd love to see a video on the band OK Go, and how they have fallen into the (frankly unique) situation of their music videos being more memorable and/or iconic and/or influential then the actual music they make.
Totally disagree
@@CaseyMeeko How so? I think with their early work on the "A Million Ways"/"Here It Goes Again" videos they showed how the internet and especially UA-cam could be utilized by bands. There bigger productions like "This Too Shall Pass" and "Needing/Getting" were some of the most popular videos of their years. The video for "Upside Down Inside Out" was the first to be film in zero gravity, getting them their second Grammy nod. Their videos have been used to demonstrate/inspire science in kids around the world. It's usually an event went a music video of their's gets released.
Honestly, with how complex of a person SIA is, even with her duplicitous intentions with her work and stuff (seriously, I lost a LOT of respect for her after the whole MUSIC movie controversy and what came out with it), her music always seems endlessly fascinating in some way. Even before her fall from Grace, she seemed like someone who you’d want to know more about in some way.
Wait, what controversy was Sia involved in? What happened in it?
@@astraldirectrix she made an awful movie that portrayed people with autism in a real bad way.. It wasn’t really her idea to do but she made it with “autism speaks” who’s known for not treating people with autism right. I was a huge Sia fan from the mid 2000’s so it hurt to see it
@@astraldirectrix exactly what the last poster said. Also, she insisted on casting Maddie Ziegler, that dancer girl who’s in all her videos, as the main character. The problem: Ziegler isn’t autistic. And so many autism rights activists and groups came after SIA for not casting someone on the spectrum for the role, and she lashed OUT at them on Twitter for it. Not to mention, the comfort level of her relationship with Ziegler came into question, as it turns out they had multiple sleepovers at SIA’s place during the pandemic. Yea, not creepy at all…
@@astraldirectrix For me the worst part about the Music movie controversy was not the contents of the movie, but how she reacted to the criticism. She blatantly lied about not knowing how bad Autism Speaks is to save face. It became very clear the movie wasn't made for autistic people, but for her own image and ego. You know what actually, convincing Maddie Ziegler to play the autistic girl was the worst part. Even before the movie came out you could see she had apprehension about playing the part, but Sia kept telling her nobody would have a problem with it.
@@heymistercarter. I mean, but you can't deny that SIA saying that they didn't get the part because they can't act is kinda hilarious. no disrespect tho
Thanks for teaching me to appreciate songs I already liked, even more.
Sia just makes some phenomenal music and a great voice. Elastic Heart has to be her greatest work tho
Check out pre-Chandelier Sia collab with Xtina - You Lost Me, Bound To You, and I Am. from 2010's Bionic. Such gems
If anyone was surprised by this, listen to her piano version of it.
"Drink to get drunk" was a pretty big hint too; we often take it too far in Australia.
You should do Call Me If You Get Lost.
Would love that
For some reason, I didn't just miss the deeper meaning, but I have never even thought if there might be one. I think I like the chorus a little bit more now too.
you always do these a day after I do a deep dive into an artists wikipedia page. just started down the Sia rabbit hole myself
Dude, dude! Who are you? Your Thumbnail is ART! The video production and voice over! Wow!!
Forgot maybe the most important thing, that she has Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, which probably caused the thyroid problems in some way too. It's a massively impactful condition and causes severe pain at times and reasonably bad at all other times, for most people.
Epic, I literally was just watching all newer vids lol
She is the best.
back then, when i did drugs because everything was shit, i listened the song mostly because her adorable voice, and i felt aprechiated by the lyrics
Discovered you today and I love your videos, please do one on Conan Gray ❤
Cool video. If I can give you a writing tip, when you compose your next script, do a search for the word "would." Then get rid of all or most of its usage, and change the verb tense to work.
think of how drazy it is that her demo sounded like that. i mean, not even a serious per-meditated effort. oh so gooooddd
Bro, we need a vid about Call me if you get lost, your videos on Igor and Flower Boy were amazing and I would like to see your review on CMIYGL
I can thank Puddles Pity Party haunting cover for making me aware of the dark meaning of the song, a meaning I've lived many years of my life. Definitely appreciate what I thought was just a catchy party song that much more now...glad Sia got control over her substance use disorder like me.
inspiring
Sia has always has like to remain hidden, the first time I very heard her mentioned was her as the vocalist on DJ Friendly's track "some kind of love song".
As some one who has been listening to Sia for now 2 decades, she's an institution who now sets pop standards with the music she rights for others, she is the modern day Burt Bacharach
I was just wondering, how do you find the vocal only/instrumental only tracks of these songs? also, where do you find such high quality versions? thanks, and I love your vids!
You should do a video about Bjork's artistry
Of my last 10 years of my life, there have been one theme song of Sia every in some relevant moment in my life every 2 to 5 years 😅
Titanium in my 2011
Wild Ones in my 2012
Chandelier in my 2015
Lets Love in my 2020
*sorry for my bad english
I'm a punk and metal fan yet I love this song. The darkness of the lyrics were always clear. It's no big mystery.
I would love if you made a video about the song "Lemon Tree", a song of which i have two theories about.
Nr.1: A man who is hiding from the world and is slowly becoming (or already is) insane or
Nr.2: A man who ignores the outside world with the negativity of the internet.
A relief teacher at school taught us that song and said it was a joke song I didn't think it was I guess I may be right
The first time I heard of Sia is when she recorded a song with NKOTB, same with Gaga 🥰
Epicc
Puddles interpretation of the song also brought people to her.
Did people not think this was anything but a depressing sad girl anthem???
exactly! it was pretty obvious
7 months ago? More SIA PLEASE!
Such a talented song writer, mad voice & an Aussie chick.
If you Could Can you talk about FIN.K.L 's Blue Rain Album and how one of the members was a Party girl and the rest were devout Christians
A great (and unique content from what you usually make) idea could explore how Tyler Childers blew up and re-popularized folk style country music and make anti-nashville profitable again.
Please make a video on *Lord Huron*
Fear before the march of flames
please do a video on björk
You forgot to mention her years and hits with Zero 7.
Back in 2001 when I was going through my first breakup a song came on VH1. It was Destiny by Zero 7 and that's how I discovered Sia. I then rediscovered her when I watched 'Guess who' which featured the song butterflies. Then I tuned into 'Colour the small one'.
If any person listening 'Chandelier ' didn't know what it was about, then I really have to wonder if they even listen to song lyrics or if they just listen to the beat.
I wonder who would listen to this song and think "party song"... dont even have to listen to the lyrics to hear the sadness, the tone of the song is depressing and sad...
All of us “party girls” that misused alcohol probably picked it up a while ago, but still nice to hear her history
"Sia, American Songwriter?" she's definitely Australian and I'll never forget hearing "Breathe Me" for the first time on JJJ. 🤩
She lives in LA
@@TROLLBUSTER12 maybe, but residency =/= citizen
I feel like a video on joyner lucas would be super interested
When is your music coming? Bet you can make some bangers.
Wtf this song came out in 2014?!!! Wow… I cannot believe it’s been 10 years already
wtf i've been having a drug problem for more than a decade😳
We need a twenty one pilots video @Middle 8
I hate to be pedantic but Sia is Australian but you refer to her as American in the text quote around 6:27
Yes we know she was born in Australia but lived in the UK and in America since 2005.
Most of her work in the US.
Sia is great… but I preferred her singing Sophie Barker’s lyrics with Zero 7. That was her peak in my opinion.
I read this as Chandler
Hey if you want to explore a band with interesting lyrics, i highly reccomend TOOL. Their songwriter is amazing!
Sia bravely talking about her experiences trapped in Beyonces basement
Get a life
@@taj____ ?
Love Sia as an artist
12/31/23
Cheap Thrills is darker too
Even more impressively, she did this all while trapped in Beyonce's basement.
..
I THOUGHT IT WAS 123 1233
my guess its the same as breath by sia,
21 pilots?
i already know this song is about alcohol and suicide
The elephant in the room is that you see a video with an 11 year old girl dancing around an abandoned house in a nude bodysuit that meets up with an apparently naked grown ass man. Nothing strange there I guess...
How did you miss the obvious suicide reference of swinging from the chandelier…
My theory is that he missed it on purpose, so that people would leave more comments about it promoting video
@@CaseyMeeko he actually alludes to it as a "cry for help". It's just the word might cause him to be demonetized.
Turns out that her recent fall from grace was as bad as her turbulent era back in early 2010s forcing her to hide her identity during her comeback era
Addicts are stuck on repeat…doesn’t matter the vice…it’s all a cycle.
The darker meaning behind, also known as, the *very clear* lyrics. I'm sorry but this meaning is one hundred percent obvious, from the first read, and English isn't even my native language.
Sia is AUSTRALIAN if you want to go back and edit the mistake
Yes born in Australia by most of her work in UK and US where she became famous.
You know I love Sia but she didn’t write that song! That song was written in 2002 by someone who preferred not to be the spotlight!
I know that You wouldn’t really review this group but it’s worth a shot, so… 88rising or rich Brian?
(You prob won’t do it since it doesn’t fit your vids)
I really wish she never put out Music. Then we could see more videos made about her great music. Someone on her team really should’ve told her NO😫 (love Music the album, but the movie should’ve never existed, very bad taste)
Says you!
@@TROLLBUSTER12 says me, absolutely. Someone with common decency and respect for people who are on the spectrum. That’s what this film lacked, common decency and respect towards people on the spectrum. As big as a fan of Sia’s I am, I can’t defend that and I won’t act as if it wasn’t a bad movie/bad project.
You - to everyone - :
“…love Music the album, but the movie *should’ve never existed* …”
Me - to myself - :
“don’t snap, don’t snap, don’t snap”
Hehehe 🙈
Chris Luv, *Music* the Studio Album was inspired by *Music* the -poorly made- Musical film (its not a soundtrack album). In fact the film’s soundtrack was never released separately chick her discography. Us LGBTQ+ Artists can not afford to be wildly misinformed & fierce advocates at the same time sis. 💔😂🏳️🌈
Mwaaaah💋
Yes bring attention to that ableist
to be fair, you’re definitely correct haha
She is not
Got your attention didn't it..
Yeah bully work from victim 😂
Sia is making million from songwriter not like you Loser 😂
Isn’t this video’s premise flawed. This isn’t unknown or misunderstood, most knew this song for what it is. Did people think this was a happy song? It’s no different than semi-charmed life, or many many many other popular, upbeat yet dark songs.
I agree. It's not the "darker meaning behind", it's "the meaning of".
promosm 🌟
I can’t find it in me to care because I can’t take her seriously.
Well aren't you "special"...
You seem too important to waste your time here.
@@TROLLBUSTER12 Correct. I have a Tier 3 Internet Comment License with a Special Opinion Provision.
She is not an artist you can see everyday doing tiktok posting her life.
She definitely doesn't want any attention just her song. That's what make her so special and different from other pop artist. So different.
I always hated this song… guess this video just gave me a new found appreciation of it
There’s more meaning In suffering than anything other feeling
