Ahh fresh fish pie. I have my memories of eating a freshly made fish pie (and fish cakes) on a coastal holiday in the very, very far north of Scotland (about 120 miles drive from my house so it’s far enough away to count as a 3 day holiday!) in the lounge of a holiday cottage with a slate roof and roaring crackling wood fire whose windows overlook the sea and the bobbing fishing boats on this azure (or slate) bringing your fish in, and when it’s night you can see the bobbing lights and the emerald-ruby-diamond lights of the harbour and lighthouse shimmering out over the sea while you are on the sofa reading a good book with the dog asleep by the fire, the fire whose gentle flames welcome you into the room and then kiss and embrace you into a warm slumber.
After living and working here in Granada, Spain, that sounds idyllic. Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment, I appreciate that. Visit my Website mr-pauls-pantry.com/ For more recipes. Stay safe and keep cooking .
@@MrPaulsPantry Thanks for the reply - it is rather idyllic indeed in the wind-swept far north of Scotland, but Spain is also a piece of heaven to visit (one day I hope to return and see more but given the coronavirus that's about as likely as having a picnic on the rings of Saturn sadly). Will you be featuring some Spanish recipes too, as I'd love to finally learn how to make a proper paella. Either way keep up the good work, and please also stay safe! Regards, David.
I want to go with Davey R to the cottage in Scotland. He must be a writer, what a picture he created. I did try the fish pie and we all loved it. Thanks
Welcome, glad you like them, Just remember, I don't accept claims for having to buy larger clothes!! Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment, I do appreciate that. For more of my recipes go to my website at : mr-pauls-pantry.com/
Hi Mr Paul...I've been looking at all your videos during lockdown..have tried most of them and they turned out perfect..now I'm going for the Fish Pie...thank you
Made this fish pie last week and it was lovely, As a Yorkshire person I also add 2 quartered boiled egg. Making it again today but putting cheese mash on the top. Thank you for sharing. Another great recipe.
This sounds delicious and very doable. I have made several of your recipes and they have all turned out great, so I am definitely going to a try this. Could I use Maizena instead of flour as we have a visitor who is avoiding wheat flour.
Yes you can, but probably use a little less. Mix it with a little cold water to a cream like consistency then add a Little at a time until you get the right thickness. For those who don't know, Maizena is a Spanish brand of Cornflour/starch.
Hi Paul, I just found your videos and they are great, with the fish pie, could I use just one sort of fish ? also can i use frozen fish as that's what I've got.
Yes, absolutely Wendy, that's the beauty of this recipe you can use whatever fish you prefer, also frozen is fine, I let mine thaw overnight in the fridge. Visit my Website mr-pauls-pantry.com/ For more recipes. Stay safe and keep cooking.
This looks delicious! I have tried several of your recipes and they have all been a hit with my family! Thank you so much! In this recipe though, you put the onions in the milk and then removed them. Do we not put them into the casserole before adding the sauce? Thanks in advance!!
Thanks Mr Paul for this recipe, I just have a question… what happened with the onions in the milk? Do you blend them or take them out? This milk is the one you add to the butter and flour? Thanks in advance! :) may God bless you!
Hi, thanks for your message. The full written recipe and method is usually on my website. This is from that page. To Make the Sauce Firstly chop the onion roughly and place in a saucepan with the milk and bring to the boil then turn down the heat to simmer for about 5 minute to let the onion infuse the milk. The onion does not go in the pie Melt 25g Butter on medium heat and stir in the flour until it is evenly mixed, about 1 minute.
No idea Leanne, I only use fresh onions. I avoid using processed food and as I'm not sure of the process used in making onion granules or what's added to them other than onion, I personally won't be using them. Nice one Mr Paul --- (I used leeks instead of onions) -- I do hope you're well x

Great to hear Jane, I hope you enjoy it. For me it's a great winter warmer dish and the beauty of it is you can really use whatever fish is available.

Very nice 👌👌👍👍
I always poach the fish first but, as you say, there isn't really any point as it just gets overcooked.
This is a recipe I'm not familiar with. Thank you. I enjoyed watching.

You infuse the milk with the onion then remove it, using ONLY the milk. Hope this helps.
@@MrPaulsPantry Thank you!!
It looks great but a lot of the lemons seeds went into the pie. I would have picked them out. I don’t want anyone chewing on a lemon pit.
Thanks for your comment Maureen. Visit my Website mr-pauls-pantry.com/ For more recipes. Stay safe and keep cooking.
That was exactly what I thought! I would have got the juice out over a small sieve to catch them.
