You work, participate in the economy, pay your taxes and fees your whole life, and then you're stabbed in the neck by your own government in your final years. What a shameful disgrace!
Wages have been so low in the face of inflation, austerity , tightening one’s belt, three day week etc, etc that the vast majority especially women of the 1950’s generation could not afford to save or invest for a second pension. The whole work, labour, pay and pension systems were very different then especially in light of the inequality in the female workforce and pay gaps. Personally at one point I was working three jobs and didn’t have a work pension from any of them.
Pensioners also recieve a £10 Chrismas grocery bonus given by George Brown when he was chancellor zillions of years ago, which could buy a full Christmas food basket back in the day. Never has been increased in all these years since. So if Reeves hasn't deducted that from pensioners pockets they may be able tovisit the supermt & buy a box of matches to light a non-existent fire!

The place she was moved to, had graffiti on EVERY internal wall, grease in the lounge where the previous people fixed motorbikes, and loads more. Now they've taken her sodding winter fuel after taxing her basic pension. Of course, as we know, Starmer has done it by design - to fund effing m.p second homes, oh bless.

First they screwwd millions of pensioners by giving them a cost of living increase that took them over the minimum base rate of tax (having kept that base rate as it was). This cost most pensioners affected much more than the increase they got. Then TTK and Co. add insult to injury by taking away their heating allowance. Quoting "Pension Credit" is an insult as TTK has already stated that those on it will not lose their allowance. Those pushed into the higher tax bracket will not be able to claim Pension Credit. Meanwhile they give massive pay rises to those already getting really high salaries like Class 1 train drivers.

Many old folk are too proud to go cap-in-hand to claim Pension Credit. Age U.K. should step in and make sure as many of them get what they are entitled to.
The pension credit scheme is only if you are claiming housing benefit. If you own your home, you can't get pension credit. I used their calculator, and it told me I can't get it as I'm not on housing benefit. So my wife and I worked hard to own our home, and the government told us to sod off.
I was looking forward to getting my first ever winter fuel payment this winter. I hear rumours that they will also consider charging pensioners NI as well... I can't afford to retire, already can't afford to really heat the house properly: this will make things even worse.
If you are over 70 already the chances are you don't have much of a private pension, if any, especially if you worked for small and medium size companies. Lucky ones, as always, are those in the public sector. Thus saving for retirement is a waste of time.

First they screwwd millions of pensioners by giving them a cost of living increase that took them over the minimum base rate of tax (having kept that base rate as it was). This cost most pensioners affected much more than the increase they got. Then TTK and Co. add insult to injury by taking away their heating allowance. Meanwhile they give massive pay rises to those already getting really high salaries like Class 1 train drivers.

But if I lived in Hampstead in 1.5 million pound house with a £100,000+ car and had a 1/4 million pound yacht in South of France but only £12,000 savings and paid nation insurance for a few years then as such a poor person I would get my pension topped up with pension credit and get a winter fuel payment to help keep my house warm in the winter while away on my yacht in the warm med! 😭
@@cadagumedia you should still be able to claim pension credits, it is not tied to a council area.
Unless between you you are getting more than £332.95 per week.
It's worth putting in another claim
Another backfire on them. DWP are sending out letters to pensioners, advising them they could be entitled to Pension Credit - and get the forms filled in quickly. If they do, it could cost the Government £4 billion - which is higher than if they kept the Winter Fuel payment going for all seniors!
Their pension credit scheme is means tested .
Yes, so what? So is working tax credit..If someone doesn't need it why should they get it? It's to top-up pensioner's overall income.
like politicians don’t claim for money they don’t need, joke
Yes and if you are one penny over you have had it.
@@triggersw3350 because they paid into the system for 40 plus years.
@@stuartregan1627 ?? Sorry, not sure what your point is- the waspie women were short changed in a way no other group were.. It could at least have been phased in?
I think the threshold should have been set at the national living wage, thus supporting more pensioners from these cruel cuts .
The thousand pounds Ed Milliband claimed for heating his second home would have paid for three pensioners winter fuel allowance.
You think Farage doesn't make the same or similar claims?
As a pensioner who’s lost this. I will be worse off than my cousin who claims benefit and gets free dental treatment, winter fuel allowance, rental help etc etc etc ….in fact she ends up with far more than me. I paid full NI stamp to. Ensure I’d get a full pension….she paid nothing like the amount, yet she ends up with more….it’s the unfairness that gets to me.
Pension credits was there before but the threshold for pension credits is about £218 and the new pension brought in on 2016 is £221 so the only pensioners who can claim it are the ones who haven’t paid enough NI to get a full pension. Let them try living on £221 a week.
Savings are also capped to be eligible.
Or those born before 1950 who receive less on the 'old' pension.
SO PEOPLE WHO DIDN'T WORK FOR LONG ENOUGH I DID BUT FAIL TO GET P CREDIT BECAUSE I AM 20 P OVER
@JacquelineIthell-t7s you are less than me then I am 55 pence over for claiming pension credit and have to pay dental fees and get nothing towards prescription for glasses peed off to say the least.
But the MP's still get their thousands for energy assistance, why aren't they being means tested?
It will cause tremendous hardship to elderly people. Some people will have to make a decision either heating or eating. It is a absolute disgrace.
The problem is that everyone assumes that all pensioners are on the new state pension. I'm 74 and so get almost £50 a week less than that. I worked all my life mostly in non pensionable jobs so do have a full old state pension but because I have a few pounds from a little private pension do not get any other help.. How is it that someone getting a couple of pounds a month less than me qualifies for top up including not paying council tax which in my case is £180 a month? If you have never worked at all in your life and are on state benefits you get the same support. For working all my life I am penalised and am hundreds of pounds worse off than these people.
You should have prepared when you were younger, mate.
@@brianbell3836 This would have been great had I been in a job that allowed me to save but nearly all my jobs were temporary and as a woman widowed and with children to bring up working in very low paid jobs from 1965 there was no spare money for that.
Winter fuel allowance cut and energy prices to rise by 9% in October. You just couldn’t make it up.
Alex you are gorgeous, you make my day thank you, sweetheart, 😍🥰
We have had Austerity from 2008 and everyone has tightened their belts and services have dwindled and all bills have risen with some of them even doubling but strangely government has grown and pay rises have been annually with out the need to threaten to strike because it is automatically implemented so why don’t government help us in reducing the pressure by cutting the number of M P’s and their staff by say 10% surely this will save millions. Come on we are all in this together.
Austerity started 2010. Osbourne's scheme. Never trust a Tory
If you have a full pension ,you can’t claim pension credit ,millions of pensioners are going to be on a very tight budget 😢
So?
How dare people who have paid into the system ALL THEIR LIVES want a little bit back. It’s just a pity for them that they’ve worked hard all their lives instead of entertaining the country illegally on a rubber dinghy, there’ll be living royalty right now.
Please, please, any pensioner who thinks they may be entitled to pension credit, claim. It’s better to claim and be disallowed than not claim. Friends mum didn’t think she was entitled to, turns out she’s going to get £82 a week, plus the fuel allowance, tv licence etc.
MP'S still get their heating allowance, and can claim for a second home if they have one! Thanks Liebour!!!
Starmer is a traitor.
