"I agree with Dillon. Ugh, I feel dirty now." Me too. Kinda like un-hearing Dutch's flatulations. I still dry-puke a little bit at the thought - thanks Dutch!
Lagavulin is another "marmite" whisky, like all the Islay heavy peat scotches the smoke polarises opinion, when I worked in a bar I was the "Whisky guy" when customers asked about what to try, and just getting them to smell any Islays would always elicit one of 2 reactions, either a recoil in horror at the intense iodine salty aroma or a deeper inhale and a joyous expression at finding their whisky of choice. Contrasting it with Jamesons or Yamazaki would get the opposite reactions from the two types. I am with Dutch in that you have to be in the mood for such a powerful dram.
Great review! This is a great whiskey. Problem is the price of $90. At $60 this is a no brainer. But at $90 I can get Laphroaig Cask Strength, Ardbeg Cory or Oggy.
Don't know if you're a Costco member or have a friend who is. It's been $70 at their L.A. stores for over a year now. Inventories have been solid but are starting to show depletion.
Glad to see another islay on the show, hope there are more to come! Have to agree with the rest of the comments though, I agree with Dillon. Pricing is very different in my area though. Controlled state it's $99, on the shelf everywhere, but $99
This bottle was my gateway to the whiskey world. I followed Ron Swanson's recommendations, tried it and was blown away. Before that I had no idea that whiskey is so much more than just a booze to get you wasted, and never understood why some bottles are much more expensive than the others. Laga 16 in my local store is 60 eur, fair price. Always have one in my bar. Fun Fact: in the episode where Ron Swanson was shot in a head, he holds the bottle of North Port 20. That distillery was demolished in mid 90's and now last bottles are circulating among collectors for insane prices.
You are funny guys, LAGAVULIN 16 is $99 in almost all controlled states Liquor Stores, that is why I never buy it. Basically, I can Pay $20 more and get the distillers edition, which is better, also there are good alternatives that are half the price not necessarily as aged. Next scotch episode, you guys really really really (yes 3 reallys) need to do Aberlour lineup or just the 16 or 12, which are phenomenal
Good review guys. I've had the Ardbeg Oogie, and the Laphroig 10 but not this one. This is next on my list. Haven't quite put down the $83 for it here but now I plan to. It is obviously a classic. Cheers guys!
This is the perfect drink to get u into peat and smokey scotch. I believe this has the best balance between peat, smoke, and sweet. Ardbeg and laphroig is good with peat, but not as balanced.
Last winter at the Costco in Kona they had this for < $50. In Seattle area this is high $90s before our insane liquor tax. I'm still kicking my self 10 months later that I bought only one bottle. Stupid! Stupid! Stupid! (as I hit my head against the wall).
This was my entry to peated scotch. It's classy, delicious and it's amazing. This is a beautiful expression that I keep coming back to and understandably so! It's worth the price I pay locally in Vancouver. It's worth well above 83 IMO. Dillon is right on. I'd give this particular expression a 90. I never experienced Lag 16 as intensely peated compared to many other peated scotch expressions. Terrific finish! Outstanding! This is a scotch for a serious scotch enthusiast! It should command attention! Thanks for the terrific video. Cheers.
Should try the Port Charlotte 10, just has a better mouth feel & finish in my opinion. Although I agree with Dillon that this is a classic & wasn’t worth the 77.
In the year 2023, the lowest I can find this around me is $104. Tried it for the first time the other day. I get the hype, not sure if I will buy it at that price again.
Laga 16 is easy 90+...... Dillon is correct on this one........ come on man.... BUT, you are either a Scotch guy/gal... or not.... if Jameson is your drink of choice... I doubt any Scotch will hit you like a big smile.
I will never ever understand the love of peated whiskey. It is vile and disgusting. I cannot understand the affection of wanting to drink smoked meats or fruits. I have been drinking whiskey for years and am no novice. But these types of whiskies and yes I have had this one, are just not appealing. Again simply vile to my taste
Dillion is the only one who knows what he is doing.
Completely agree with Dillon. Laga was my gateway scotch.
A score of 77 or 82 is a crime. I am with Dillon.
I can't believe I'm going to say this... I agree with Dillon. Ugh, I feel dirty now. Lag16 is the quintessential Islay Scotch.

OK, after catching the ending outtakes, and I gotta say Dutch - Dillon bests you at one thing. There - I finally said something nice about Dillon.
I also agree with Dillon! I am just bummed I cannot get this for $75 anymore. I am only finding it at $90 here in Minneapolis.

I wanted to be the first commenter....😔. GREAT REVIEW GUYS!!
wow I was rewatching so many vids from you guys while waiting for a new one that I didnt realize this new video played next! Ty for the vid
He’s right, it’s not in the “diamond club” but it should be a mid to high gold
No more to say but agreeing with Dillon's review and score.
How much better representation of an Islay can you get?? Dillon is right on.

Welcome back! I find your reviews entertaining and informative. Good to see you back with a broader scope.
This one got me into scotch. It’s a Diamond in my book.

This one and Laphroaig 10 brought me to scotch world! Cheers! Having Kilchoman Loch Gorm 2019 with Epic Habano in Lancero!

Thankfully, Costco still has it in stock for $65 right now. This review reminded me to go stock up. Headed there now. Lol.

My all time favourite.

I get for $67 at NEX. Classic Legend. enough said.
I have Lagavulin 16 at a definitive 94 and nothing or no one can change my mind.
Wildcard Jules strikes again!! I will now get a glass of this so I can dip my toe into nextadult drinking.

One of my favorites. $65 all day at Costco.
"Dillon" Im bringing the Peat! priceless! Bahahahaha
Classic indeed!
I agree with Dillon
I’m usually with Dutch most of the time. But I’m with Dillon on this.
$55? This is now about $98 at total wine here in the future.
Have you had the Nick Offerman edition?
Your neon intro reads "Lagavulen" instead of "Lagavulin". Other than that Thumbs-up.
We need a better editor. Good catch!
You have made me want a bottle.
Looks like this is one of the reviews that desperately needs a revisit. Especially for the 2023 value
Seriously guys i think peated whisky is not ur thing . Just drink ur bourbon if u can’t appreciate a good scotch . 77 ??? Seriously ??? Fck that .
80s? 70s? Pls do a head2head with the other Islay entry-levels and you will see that Dhillon knows his 💩. This is classic stuff
I'm with Dillon on this one

Wow 77????
92 to me.
Definitely taste as if you liquefied a old used Band-Aid
Lagavulen 😂 😂 😂
