Bear in mind that the upcoming OnePlus 12 should have almost the exact same camera setup as the Open. Think of this almost as a preview for that phone as well!
Great comparison. Jve recently bought an Open, and used to have an S23 Ultra, I much prefer the Oneplus images, lovely and sharp, and very surprising zoom performance. I've been using the 'warm' colour filter quite a lot with the autumn colours,
Thanks for doing a comparison. I've heard nearly every review state "of course it's not going to be anywhere near the S23 Ultra cameras" like it's a given, without testing.
Are you using the night mode for the shot of the guitars in your room. And are you shooting in pro mode or just point and shoot as it makes a big difference.
OnePlus nailed it this year, bringing arguably the best folding phone on the market, cheaper than the others and also having one of the best camera systems on a phone. It's mindblowing because OP hasn't had the best cameras the past years. Shane i would love a video maybe comparing the RAW files and how flexible they can be in Lightroom. I know Samsungs expert raw is pretty good, but I don't know how it will stack up against the Open's RAW+ mode
I love your comparison. You're looking exactly for things that matter in the pictures. 👍👌 One comment about the S23 Ultra's processing: have you guys tried experimenting with the 200mp mode? While the 50mp is closer to the 12mp in many aspects, the 200mp truly gets a different processing. I've started playing a lot with it after seeing some posts on Twitter, not necessarily for the extra resolution, but for the look of the shots. Photos of closer objects have a very natural bokeh, while the part that is in focus is looks both "soft" (not oversharpened ) and detailed. Also, I've noticed that when you turn off the HDR and the adaptive pixel (if you think that the HDR isn't necessary to the photo you're taking), the result seems even cleaner. (And it prevent the processing from trying to brighten the photo at all cost.) Just wanted to share that with you, because I'm really starting to have fun with my S23 Ultra because of that 200mp auto mode, at least as much as with the pro mode. If you're getting tired of the regular photo processing, I swear this mode is much more usable than we think. It just takes a while to get used to the way it behaves.
Please help! Im getting camera lag when trying to take a portrait so my son or cat always comes out blurred unless they're absolutely still. when is this going to get fixed?
I'm an owner of both an s23 ultra and a OP Open, and so far I prefer the OP. I just can't stand the, subjectively, horrible colors and over saturation produced by the s23u, it's so bad that not even in raw pics you can save the end result. Though, to be fair, this come across specially bad on food, not so much on faces or scenery, so your mileage may vary.
Turn off scene optimizer and auto HDR off and set picture softening to medium on Samsung. Also disable auto lens switching. You'll see the big difference.
Kinda seems as if the One Plus Open camera is similar to the Pixel Fold camera when it comes to image processing. Dark areas are dark on both devices but Samsung image processing seems to over lighten dark areas and over saturate colors, which i am ashamed to admit i prefer since i was in the Samsung universe for so long.
Keep in mind that the OnePlus 12 will have the 8Gen 3 chip in it, so it should have even better photo processing than the Open has. The difference will probably be very small, but it should be there. The s24 will obviously also have this chip in it, but I wouldn't really compare the OnePlus 12 to the s24 ultra anyways, it really competes more with the s24 Plus.
Very slightly from what I've seen. The LYT-808 is designed for traditional phones, while the LYT-T808 is designed for folding phones. Bear in mind OnePlus themselves stated that "have the same excellent imaging capabilities and are the world's leading mobile image sensors."
@@shanecraigtech yep! That's why I'm watching, wanted to get a gauge of how the 12 is going to perform. Hopefully the sensor has better stabilization and 8 gen 3 allows some better processing. I think overall the 12 will be very competitive and for the first time since the Open, not the reason someone should skip a OnePlus!

Yes he said that in the video
I like that there is a foldable that competes with flagship candybar phones.

Great review, I have both phones and have been impressed with the results from the open compared to the ultra.
Where had you gotten this s23 ultra case

Watching this on my OnePlus Open. I really love its cameras . Only the selfie sucks
Good thing it folds so you can use the main camera for selfies as well.

Has anyonr seen .dng (raw) photos (public share) taken with Open. I would like to test those raws with my RAW editor.
For me I feel like OnePlus is held back by software and fold is hardware.

Same here but I prefer the opposite.

Auto lens switching is off, in my experience the other things you're talking about don't make me like the photos more. Usually less.

Slightly different sensor, 808 vs T808, so probaby better stabilization on the 12

i want the one plus open :)
Coming from iPhone 14, I now have the One+ Open, and the iPhone took way better pics
My 14 pro max always did bad in low lighting the zoom isn't as good either but the video was the shit
It will be nice to get rid of the yellow tint and high contrast of the Samsung camera. 0+O
The oneplus 12 will have the new snapdrsgon 8 gen 3 tho
S23 ultra is the mist overrated camera on the market. Not sure why anyone likes it
Fold 4 and fold 5 camera is also not good
Just got rid of my S23 Ultra...
