Robin Gibb (Bee Gees) performs at the Redwood Music Festival in Auckland New Zealand 1970. This was during the brief break up of the Bee Gees.
I love the purity of his voice. It's heartbreakingly beautiful.
He was so young. What a beautiful voice.
It's Robin's voice that sends one into another world when he sings.
I WAS THERE IN THE NIGHT, IN THAT CROWD. THAT SONG LEFT ME FEELING SO LOST , ALONE, AND SO FAR FROM HOME IN SCOTLAND. I HAD TRAVELLED TO NEW ZEALAND 2 YRS EARLIER AT 15, ON MY OWN. LESSTHAN A WEEK AFTER THIS, MY WORLD CAVED IN ON TOP OF ME! THE DREAM ALMOST OVER, OF A LIFE IN A NEW WORLD, I WAS IN HOSPITAL 3 DAYS! BUT, LESS THAN 4 WEEKS LATER, I WAS IN A NEW JOB, LEARNING THE DRY CLEANING/PRESSING GAME... AND WONDERING HOW ON EARTH FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST WAS SO REAL AND VIBRANT AND ALIVE IN ME!!! 48 YRS SINCE THIS CONCERT, AND I STILL REMEMBER A CONFUSED ROBIN GIBB PASS BY THE SIDE OF THAT STAGE. AM STILL STANDING TODAY.
Amazing story. Glad you made it. God bless you, brother. Not sure the poet was confused at that point though; maybe his poetry gave you a nudge along the way. Hope we will all meet at His (capital H)feet one great day.
So happy to hear you pushed through that dark place. Robin’s voice is so evocative and will stir deep emotions and even more so if one has been mired is loneliness and uncertainty. I can’t imagine the honor of seeing Robin sing solo and for you, the visual of him up there, alone, tiny and vulnerable with his brothers (I assume this was during the breakup?) resonated with you even more. From one here in the States who has also experienced tragic loss and the deep sadness which accompanies it, I am happy to hear your faith in Christ and personal perseverance pulled you through. I lost my only sibling to suicide and will never get over his decision to check out of life😢 so glad you are still her my friend.

He got hit in the chest during one song and stepped back several feet but kept singing. It just breaks my heart to see this happen to poor sweet Robin already heartsick over the breakup with his brothers. How can people be so mean?
@@fivebluelakes8948 Welp, I saw the footage of the tomato to his head, but I didn't know he was pelted in his chest as well? Poor Robin. No wonder he looked absolutely petrified! Some have speculated that Robin was also Stoned out of his gourd!, but even if he was, So What? Many musicians took drugs back in the day.

What's wrong with the microphone....and with Robin? He looks (& sounds) stoned! To overcome stage fright, probably. He was little more than 19 years old, sensitive & vulnerable as only true ARTISTS are. Going out on his own in front of those junks wasn't exactly the same as being with the band.
I’m not certain, but I believe this concert was a two day event and during his first appearance (the previous day before this one), someone threw a tomato at him, and then a girl jumped onstage and grabbed him. He was whisked off the stage by security and there were concerns of not enough security. The next day Robin decided to appear even though he was frightened after the promoter promised added security. I believe that is why Robin appears so nervous.

@@mybabba Much more tha a tomato - I was there playing drums in the orchestra, there were cans, bottles and all sorts landing on stage and he took off smartly as he had the night before. The security guys were the real culprits as they were were heavy handed when they chucked the girl off the stage which sparked the missile throwing.
Robin was a very sensible artist. Never I see him so nervous. Sheet people!

In those 1970' solo concerts (I've seen one in Germany) the instrumentation was terrible. It ruined his voice, but he himself sounded vocally uncertain. Pity! He never like doing things on his own.
he was uncertain because the crowd the night before was drunk and unruly. It was amazing to me that he had the courage to get back on stage the next day.
Which city was it in Germany? What was he singing? How many songs used for his show? Thank you

Who could not be jealous of Barry? Barry is a masterpiece. The most beautiful man alive and the best singer and songwriter ever. I love how Robin sings but as for me, it would be boring a concert with only Robin , that"s why his solo carrer not succeeded and he asked to return to the band.
