Mainline Steam In the West Midlands 2019-2020

  • To cure the boredom of having nothing to video due to the Coronavirus outbreak, I’ve put together some footage from 2019-2020. Bit of a mix of iPhone footage and 4K along with terrible editing. Not mich I could do about that until I get my New computer.
In the video are clips of:
    7029 Clun Castle
    Black 5s 44871 and 45231
    60163 tornado
    45596 Bahamas
    8F 48151
    46100 Royal Scot
With no mainline Steam or heritage railways operating at the moment it would really help by donating a few quid to help in this difficult time. Even if it’s just five pounds (cost of a pint and a packet of crisps) it goes a long way in helping our heritage railways or mainline operators to overcome the knock on effect of the Coronavirus outbreak.
Below is a link for the Severn Valley Railways appeal if anybody would like to donate. www.svr.co.uk/...

These Castle locos ( and Kings) are really beautiful locos probably more so because they haven't got the ugly Walschaerts valve gear on the outside, and for a 4cyl loco they are quite small but they beat all the LMS/LMR locos hands down, thanks so much for the splendid video.

Thank you terry. Looking forward to seeing king Edward 1st return to the mainline soon and hopefully get some more footage of 5043 and 7029

I really love that sound of the steam harmonics on the GWR engines when the regulator is opened. Grew up around steam and have always noticed they do it.

Crouching Hedgehog the GWR sound the best in my opinion.

That's a great comment mate, to be honest now 50 odd years later I've noticed the sound more often and it's certainly a great sound to hear, when I was trainspotting back in the 1950s I never took much notice of that side of the wonderful Kings and Castles.

@@terryashton3541 the GWR locos sound the best. That’s my personal opinion. If you can ever get to old hill to see Clun castle or Earl of Mount Edgcumbe then you won’t regret it. It’ll be 5 minutes of audio that you’ll remember forever. And the sight is equally as good

West Midlands Rail Enthusiast thanks mate. Just a mix of old clips. I know that feeling about being stuck in. A lot of plans for filming have gone out the window so soon as things start getting back to normal I’ll be uploading more.

Thanks for the comment. Glad you enjoyed it. Hopefully when this awful virus has gone away I can get back to enjoying filming steam on the mainline. In the planning stages of a U.K. tour so lots to come once lockdown is over. Stay safe.

Every time I hear that bark from a Castle as they pull away, I always expect to see the chimney disappear skywards🤗
They have the sharpest and loudest I think.

I agree they sound fantastic. The video doesn’t do justice to just how good they sound. If your local to the Midlands then on november 20th this year 5043 is going up the lickey incline in the morning and 7029 on the afternoon. Both trains banked by 9466. The castles will sound a treat on a 1 in 37 climb. Should be a good show. Thanks for the comment 😀

No luck as I’m in South Norfolk.
I was, however, fortunate in seeing Tornado steam out of Diss station on its way to Norwich many moons ago, and that was something.

This was filmed 4-5 years ago. I was new to filming back then and was using an iPhone 6 for a lot of the shots so I can agree that the quality of the footage isn’t the best. I’d invite you to watch some of my newer stuff which is all filmed in 4k and not on a phone. Thanks
