Buck sings this song. Lyrics by Patti Smith. This song was originally on Revolution By Night released in 83' 2 years after Fire Of Unknown Origin which featured Burning For You.
The members of the band have such a wide variety and knowledge of music. Along with training and multiple influences of many types of music and people. That’s how they have a different sound from song to song and album to album.
I like that you play the lesser known BOC songs and not the common radio hits. It's a breath of fresh air! BOC was a dominating force in the 70's and 80's. Try out Hot Rails To Hell off of the Tyranny And Mutation album, or Dominance And Submission, ME262, or Flaming Telepaths off of the Secret Treaties album. Pioneers of hard rock/heavy metal!! Oh, and welcome to the wonderful world of epic Buck Dharma guitar solos!
Just saw the mighty BOC in Loveland Colorado in 18, after seeing them a dozen times in my youth. They still are kicking out the jams. Last days of May, Joan Crawford, are 2 other brilliant songs.
great song. thank you for the reaction. my person favorite. "I love the night" was played on a seattle radio station in the 1990's at 1am? every night. I worked swing shift so I would hear it every night on my drive home . I'm sure there are 250k just in the seattle area alone that love that song Millions world wide. Its a good'n for a nice smoke and glance out the window on a stormy night. ;p
Thing is you're completely correct....BOC ARE guys you could completely hang out with. This band began in the early 70's and they are still..to this DAY, performing up and down the east coast, and only a year ago they peformed at a venue in Phoenix AZ. This band has staying power, has been woefully underrated for their entire performance career, and deserve a spot in the Rock n Roll hall of fame. But...I'm biased. I have memories of being a kid raised on Hank Williams songs (which, don't get me wrong, I still love) and by accident discovering that...holy crap, there are other forms of music in the world for me to listen to. And Blue Oyster Cult, which i discovered when I was 13 years old and completely clueless....with its sci fi lyrics and its endless and powerful solos caught me and have me to this day, and I'm pushing 60 now. Thanks for the video and glad you liked it!
BOC are a completely underrated rock band. They made so many good albums and always put on a great live show. I think they wer quite comparable to Pink Floyd. Buck Dharma is as good as David Gilmour quite similar style.
Both guitarist Buck Dharma & rhythm guitarist keyboardist Eric Bloom share lead & backing vocals. In fact, everybody in the band sings lead or backing vocals. Their music changes a lot from album to album.
if you listen to the early studio albums you will hear 5 different band members doing vocals on different songs. these days, 3 of the current members share vocals. The more you listen to them the more you will like them. Many different songs, sometimes the songs are different from beginning to end. the were originally from long island.
As an OG, it makes me feel good that the younger Gen can appreciate rock n roll classics.. you would have loved them live 1976-1978 with their lasers. Saw them twice in ‘77 & ‘79 they started to mellow a bit with their studio work, but they have really good writing, and their timing and riffs are spot on. Your reaction to ‘Dominance & Submission’ was cool… ‘7 Screaming Diz-Busters’ should only be listened from ‘On Your Feet or on Your Knees’ .. I like your intro… ‘Tattoo Vampire’ you’d like
Don (Buck Dharma) Roeser - the lead guitarist - wrote and sang reaper, burning for you, shooting shark, godzilla and others. Eric Bloom - the lead vocalist on most of the lps - sang Astronomy and many of their weirder, heavier songs. Wrote some of their best. The original drummer and bass player - Albert and Joe Bouchard also wrote amazing songs - Astronomy being one of them - and contributed lead vocals as well.
Albert Bouchard was the founding member of BOC, as well as the primary songwriter from 72 to 82. That's not to say EVERYONE did not contribute. They did. Lyrics from Perlman, Moorcock, Meltzer and Patti Smith were the major lyrical contributors.
Yeah, there are only two of the original members performing in this recording, Donald "Buck Dharma" Roeser and Eric Bloom. Since the band's beginning the two of them have taken turns being the lead on vocals for most of the band's catalog.
I have seen BOC 6 or 7 times, last was 10/21. Still rocking at 70. As for understanding BOC that has been a fun journey for fans since the 70's. The Line up has been been changing over the years. But the two main singers, Buck and Eric have been there always. Buck was the singer on shooting shark and Eric is the singer on Astronomy. The 1st 3 albums are pure gold. More hard rocking. But albums like Spectres and Fire of unknown origin are amazing also but they started to lean away from the hard rocking metal sound. Enjoy the trip that is the rabbit hole of Blue Oyster Cult.
This is not the full original lineup. Just 2 original members here: Eric Bloom- Lead vocals, guitar, keys and Donald "Buck Dharma" Roeser Lead guitar, vocals. Buck sang and wrote Reaper & Burning For You & this song. Each original member has sung lead on occasion. Allen Lanier Keys, Guitar (RIP) and brothers Joe Bouchard (Bass, Vocals) & Albert Bouchard (Drums, Vocals) who have their own thing going called Blue Coupe. They all grew up in Queens, L.I. or upstate. They payed their dues playing the L.I. bar Circuit In the early 70s. I understand they played Stony Brook alot back in the day. From '73 to '76 (Reaper) it was album, tour, album, tour, album, tour. Once they had that success they slowed down a little but they essentially stayed on the road. I saw them NYE 1973 At The Academy Of Music (The Palladium) on 14 st. for the 1st time. They really were famous for their live shows. Many of their songs are completely different (heavier) live not to mention Lazers, Giant Godzilla, Druids on stage playing drums Buck & Bloom rubbing their guitars together during their version of Born To Be Wild. They put the Show in Rock Show. Peace.
@@SightAfterDark You have a chance to see them live too. They are road dogs, always on tour. They must be close to retiring though. The originals started in 1967.
This song was cowritten by Patti Smith, who was dating Allen Lanier during their early years. Buck Dharma and Allen Lanier were born on Long Island kid, Joe and Albert Bouchard are from Watertown, NY, and Eric Bloom was born in NYC.
This band has used up to 4 vocalists. Eric Bloom, Buck Dharma, and the Bouchard brothers sang some lead vocals. The current line up on vocals is Eric, Buck, or Ritchie Castellano .
This band is Buck & Bloom along with Ritchie Castellano (search Band Geeks) from Staten Island guitar ,keys, vocals. Jules Radner (spelling?) on drums and Kasim Sulton (who was in Todd Rudgrens Utopia) on bass
Fun fact Randy Jackson from American idol played bass on the studio recording the BOC bass player was more of a guitar player who played bass and didn't know Slap bass. Also lyrics by Patti Smith
Dang. I never that BOC song before. That was good. Another one I discovered recently and thought was good (not as good as this one) by watching UA-cam reactions is "Cities on Flame with Rock and Roll". I had never heard that one either.
That was from their very first album in 1972. Written and sung by the original drummer Albert Bouchard. Their first line up was their finest in my opinion.
Kind of an obscure BOC tune. Not their first string. But a nice tune. Hard to find anything bad from these legends...but since you are digging into deeper cuts. ETI live .you would be the first reaction folks to do it. And it Rocks hard.
A very hard song to perform live. I still prefer their studio version. This song is challenging. Not as catchy as some of their other hits. But I love it the more I listen to it.
This is not all the original members.....It shows. Should have went with the original Revolutions By Night recording. This sounds so one dimensional and flat.
Props for Randy Jackson, of Journey & American Idol Fame, for his fabulous contribution on bass on the studio version of “Shooting Shark.” 👍🏻
I'm pretty sure it was Randy Jackson, the guitarist from the band Zebra, that played bass on this track in the studio. I may be wrong.
@@dougbazley9715 yes, Randy Jackson did a bass session for “Shooting Shark” studio track on The Revolution By Night album. 👍🏻
Buck sings this song. Lyrics by Patti Smith. This song was originally on Revolution By Night released in 83' 2 years after Fire Of Unknown Origin which featured Burning For You.
Awesome Song
Great musicianship
The members of the band have such a wide variety and knowledge of music. Along with training and multiple influences of many types of music and people. That’s how they have a different sound from song to song and album to album.
About 11 years back, I recall Rudy Sarzo really tearing it up, getting down & funky on this one, with a live, slap bass solo.
Excellent
Yep.. there’s a video of that on UA-cam and it’s freaking incredible - as is this version. Just freaking amazing…

Wow didn't know this recording existed. BOC is one of the greatest hard rock bands ever.
Just saw the mighty BOC in Loveland Colorado in 18, after seeing them a dozen times in my youth. They still are kicking out the jams. Last days of May, Joan Crawford, are 2 other brilliant songs.

buck is way better brother
I agree
They are so underrated
Buck Darma is one of the best
They are so good live...
The original with the saxophone
Of course, this song was released in 1984 - "Astronomy" was released in 1974. Bands can change alot in 10 years.

That’s awesome! Gotta love some slap bass!
And believe it or not, this tune is from their "commercial" era. Get to their black & white era. A different world.
Interesting. Thanks!
'72 to '74 ('75 if you count the live On Your Feet Or On Your Knees).

This is the best version I've ever heard of this song. It's a live version I think. One of my favorite BOC songs. Buck tears it up here!
This is amazing!! Anyone know which year this is or what live album. Buck's voice is so clear
Not sure
The original version is from
The Revolution by Night
But BOC always tears it up
In concert
