FILM DESCRIPTION:
"Grease," said the poster and the Barry Gibb song, "is the word." Transferring its setting from Chicago to sunny California, and adding a dash of disco to the ersatz '50s score, producer Allan Carr and director Randal Kleiser turned this long-running Jim Jacobs-Warren Casey Broadway smash into the biggest blockbuster of 1978. 1950s teens Danny (John Travolta) and Australian transfer Sandy (Olivia Newton-John) spend their "Summer Nights" falling in love, but once fall comes, it's back to Rydell High and its cliques. As one of the bad-boy T-Birds, Danny has to act cool for best pal Kenickie (Jeff Conaway) and their leather-clad mates Sonny (Michael Tucci) and Doody (Barry Pearl, in the role Travolta played on-stage). Despite befriending Frenchy (Didi Conn), one of the rebel Pink Ladies, virginal Sandy is "too pure to be Pink," as the Ladies' leader, Rizzo (Stockard Channing), acidly observes. Declaring their devotion in such ballads as "Hopelessly Devoted to You" and "Sandy," Sandy and Danny split, reconcile, and split again amidst a pep rally, dances, drive-ins, and a drag race, before deciding "You're the One That I Want" at the climactic carnival. With Travolta white-hot from Saturday Night Fever (1977), Grease soundtrack singles climbed the charts and summer movie crowds poured in. With the presence of Joan Blondell, Eve Arden, Sid Caesar, Edd "Kookie" Byrnes, and Frankie Avalon appealing to grown-up memories, Grease became the highest-grossing film of 1978, the highest-grossing movie musical ever, and the third most popular film of the new blockbuster '70s after Star Wars (1977) and Jaws (1975). Its sequel, Grease 2, did not exactly set the world on fire in 1982.

"PUT the BAT DOWN, PUT THE BAT DOWN!"
+BroadwayBaby24601 I always laugh at that part Sid Caesar’s delivery of that line just makes it comedy gold!
+BroadwayBaby24601 That is one of the funniest parts of the movie. RIP Sid Caesar.
BroadwayBaby24601 Lol! Love you coach!
FOUL BALL: SMACK!!That part never gets old.
Followed by "Put the bat down! Put the bat down!"
Jakob Von Pistohlkors
Yep! Did you see his face when after that. Made him look like an idiot.
mcbrideart, right? 😅😂🤣😆😝
I would've too. Lol.
"Put the bat down, PUT THE BAT DOWN!" LOVE THAT PART!
Why do u love that part
@@leonardopoxes7516 It just makes me laugh. Mind you, Sid Caesar makes me laugh in every scene- his speech at the pep rally is even funnier!
RIP Sid Caesar (Coach Calhoun). Died aged 91 in February.
Judging from your comment date, he would have been 100yrs old now.
0:28 that style 😂😂
danny zuko when he sling shot the guys face and said ¨cmon cmon!¨ im dead
This is one of my favorite scenes! I'm extremely disappointed that Grease live didn't include this! No matter how many times I watch this, it never gets old! 😂😂😂😂
Probably just cus it’s one of those things were it wouldn’t work in l ie, cus there’s no guarantees it’ll go right, I mean, what happens if the actor misses the ball when he wasn’t supposed to?!
@@Matt-wb8ni That’s why most live shows suck. I even heard that The Christmas Story live was awful.
Grease live was trash
@@greatestnitemare6626 I agree with you 100 percent! Most live shows suck!
I remember seeing this movie in the summer of 1978, and that SMACK with the catchers mask got a huge laugh in the theater.
Funny bit at 0:40 where danny sling shot into that Guy's face for pissing him off
Liam Temaro, when Danny sling shotted his mask was basically him saying, “You were saying about my swinging...?” Wait a minute...he did that to the wrong guy. The guy SQUATTING was the 1 insulting him.
Hammerschlägen M, oh. LOL!
That's because i was part of the baseball team. They almost out me but i was very slick. Go Warriors. Waiakea High Special Olympics.
pUt tHe bAg dOwN pUt tHe bAt dOwN!

Foul Ball , the helmet smack never gets old. 😂
0:38 to 0:42 was my favorite part out of this scene!!!!!
0:41 is the funniest part.🤣
My favorite scene in the entire movie! 🥰 I'm most impressed with the ump ready to defend himself!💪🏼👊🏾But coach telling Danny to "Put The Bat, DOWN!" will always crack me up! 🤣😂🤣
0:40 LOL
"It's not much of a contact sport" turns into "put the bat down...put the bat DOWN!" LOL!
91 years old ole man. That's quite a stretch. Who doesn't love Grease and all that great talents in it? To you Sid: this buds for u. May u rest in peace after all the years of entertainment.
RIP Comedy Legend SID CAESAR!
Who?
If you Don't Know Who Cid Caesar Is, you Gotta Google the Name..Also....He Is the Coach In Grease.
Ace Wilcox I truly hope you're only about 10 years old, as not only are there eleven typos in your two-sentence reply, your answer proves there is no "comedy legend" named "CID CAESAR". You might try a google search again, or just try looking to the left hand column of other videos and you'll find his name is SID Caesar (short for Sidney), not "CID".
"Also…He is the Coach in Grease."
Ya' think? Isn't that what this video clip shows?
sigh...
Listen, I Honestly didn't mean any disrespect by that reply, I only meant if you didn't know who he was to search him on Google, the misspelling of his name that was all me. I must have typed too fast when I Wrote that. I Apologize for any misunderstanding.
Lol at the end the coach was like: God help me
haha. I still remember Danny pullin back on that guy's mask and SMACK! just love this scene
@0:37 “Not much of a contact sport” 😂
John Travolta was so hott! ;)
starlit956 *was*

This scene makes me laugh so much:-)🤣🤣🤣

How I feel during Covid 19 and when someone tells me to wear a mask 😂🤣
0:40 Hahahahahahahaha :D
0:06 "Not that much of a contact sport," he says.
Oh, there's plenty of contact to be had if you get pissed off easily!
RIP Coach Calhoun!
Coach Calhoun rules!
0:39
"It's not that much of a contact sport" - Coach to Danny
*Danny slings the mask in the other dude's face*
"C'mon! C'mon!" - Danny to the other dude
You were saying, Coach? 😂😂😂
Funniest Scene ever!
oh my gawd that was hilarious
When he said, “PUT THE BAT DOWN! PUT THE BAT DOWN!” LMAO! & when he stretched his mask for it to him in the face (we all know why he did that which makes it funnier).
0:38 when u see a pet peeve and get mad lol watch 0:38 to 0:48
The guy he punches in the stomach is mike biehn of terminator
When Danny sling shotted his mask was basically him saying, “You were saying about my swinging...?” Wait a minute...he did that to the wrong guy. The guy SQUATTING was the 1 insulting him.
This movie is great and this movie clip is great to☺
0:40 😂🤣
Lmao when Danny tries sports 😂😂
0:44 Put the bat down, Put The Bat DOWN!
0:40 i remember this scene
him using the guy's own mask to smack him is just such major disrespect, i can't stop laughing
Thumbs up if ur listening to this in 2017
I always get agressive with sports too. Don't take no shit!
Grsese is my. Fourite movies
0:38 😍🥰😘
i don't see why he didn't hit the catcher instead of the umpire i mean the catcher was heckling him while he was batting. Starting shit with umpire wasn't justified
Jose Salazar lol well the umpire triggered Danny by saying "foul ball"; it was funny tho XD
Jose Salazar I always wondered that also, the catcher was the one talking shit to Danny not the umpire. But it still was very hilarious. I would have done the same thing.
R.I.P. Sid Caesar
0:36 Uh Oh I think the catcher is flipping the bird
AWEDDDD that was his thumb
Pulls his hat down then can't see 😁
The first time I watched this I called the coach a maniac because he actually thought Danny a guy with anger issues could play a sport with a literal weapon like he isn’t in a gang 😂
GODDAMN why didn't we just stick in the 50's. To hell with progression, this decade just got it spot on!
to hell with progression?? the civil rights act was in the 60s man
Ma jeunesse
R.i.p. Sid
Qué lindo 😍😍😍😍😍😍
My dad loves baseball!!!!
I think even Coach Calhoun thought the facemask smack was funny!
I don't blame Danny for smackin' that guy with his mask for being a douchebag and insulting him like that.I would've done the same thing and tell him "After School Buddy If Your Brave Enough!" Never let bullies get the best of you, show them what you can do and you'll earn respect.
As in this scene, if one is not a jock at a high school, one shouldn't try to be something one is not.
It IS hilarious when Danny snaps the umpire's mask. 🙂 It works on a comedy level both because of the physicality, and (if we're being honest) the mainstream's unfamiliarity with actual 1950s youth gangs.
Real gangs of the 1950s actually were often quite good at sports and some of them (The Navahos and The Viceroys out of New York, The Rebels out of Chicago) actually started out as baseball or stick ball clubs, but devolved into fighting turf gangs (who actually did shoot at each other with guns, which the Navahos did in 1955) over who has the "right" to use what baseball field. (Seriously, no joke.)
In the Samuel French live play version of "Grease" (the same "cleaned up" script used for the 1972 Broadway version that removed the Chicago references from the script by Jim Jacobs' and Warren Casey's 1971 Kingston Mines Theater play, and available at local libraries or for purchase on sites like Amazon), Sonny, Kenickie, Putzie, and Doody enter the stage with weapons, after the dance, Kenickie with a baseball bat (baseball again) and Sonny with a zip gun, both willing to murder their gang rivals over turf. (Their rivals don't show for a proposed rumble, so they almost end up doing in each other!)
I guess that was a bit too dark for the 1978 movie, and adding Danny's ineptitude with sports made the movie version even more comical, on a kid-friendly level, as opposed to a dark comedy, which was Jim Jacobs' original script (something along the lines of Mel Brooks, which wasn't the direction that Alan Carr, Robert Stigwood, and Randal Kleiser went for the movie version.)
Good! Amo a john travolta desde los 13 creeo q sera mi amor platonico de por vida
Wish I could watch it with out the freaking video buffering!! -_-
I am sad going back and forth with the family
I think Hockey would have been more Danny's sport.
0:40 😄😄😄😄
I always thought that umpire would mess Danny up. Looked way buffer
0:11 rocky balboa? Sylvester Stallone’s? Lol
LMAO
Sid Caesar was awesome !
I love seen Dany cocky
Nice
prime
Cool Cash
The Pitcher in that scene looks like Steven Weber of Wings
Is that the guy from o brother where art thou?
XD funny
Danny don’t take no disrespect
Sid Caesar at his best
That scenery looks like my old high school. Jesus Saves
The pitcher looks like Rob schneider
Let's face it, if one is meant to be good at sports, one will find out during one's grade school years when plays which ever team sport with neighborhood kids. If Danny is not naturally an athlete, that's nothing to be ashamed of.
0:37
the umpire was played by the guy who was Kyle Reese in the terminator.
Michael Biehn?
Who played the pitcher in this scene? Looks like Rob Schneider, but think he was too young to actually be him...
Foul ball 😂
Why was it a foul ball anyway ?
STRIKE!!!!!!
Iv seen grease before
Nicky Irons Who hasn't seen grease???
Does anyone know the name of the umpire and the catcher?
Helllo
Wuu2
Wiyn tell me NOW!
OK my
that first one aint no strike...
its only if you swing right???
Warfare 2017 incorrect
0:42 who is the guy who gets his mask pulled off because I can’t find him anywhere

I actually don’t remember this scene
Galaxy Skyline after sandy tries to get him jealous with an athlete he tries to prove himself by doing sports and he tries quite a few as well.
Tu es bot.
😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😗😙😗😙💎😙😙😶😗😙😶😗😚😶😙🤣😶😀😀😀😀😙😙
I feel like in this day and age the greasers would be replaced by emos and hipsters i.e they're seen as cool even though they don't like sports
