"Grease," said the poster and the Barry Gibb song, "is the word." Transferring its setting from Chicago to sunny California, and adding a dash of disco to the ersatz '50s score, producer Allan Carr and director Randal Kleiser turned this long-running Jim Jacobs-Warren Casey Broadway smash into the biggest blockbuster of 1978. 1950s teens Danny (John Travolta) and Australian transfer Sandy (Olivia Newton-John) spend their "Summer Nights" falling in love, but once fall comes, it's back to Rydell High and its cliques. As one of the bad-boy T-Birds, Danny has to act cool for best pal Kenickie (Jeff Conaway) and their leather-clad mates Sonny (Michael Tucci) and Doody (Barry Pearl, in the role Travolta played on-stage). Despite befriending Frenchy (Didi Conn), one of the rebel Pink Ladies, virginal Sandy is "too pure to be Pink," as the Ladies' leader, Rizzo (Stockard Channing), acidly observes. Declaring their devotion in such ballads as "Hopelessly Devoted to You" and "Sandy," Sandy and Danny split, reconcile, and split again amidst a pep rally, dances, drive-ins, and a drag race, before deciding "You're the One That I Want" at the climactic carnival. With Travolta white-hot from Saturday Night Fever (1977), Grease soundtrack singles climbed the charts and summer movie crowds poured in. With the presence of Joan Blondell, Eve Arden, Sid Caesar, Edd "Kookie" Byrnes, and Frankie Avalon appealing to grown-up memories, Grease became the highest-grossing film of 1978, the highest-grossing movie musical ever, and the third most popular film of the new blockbuster '70s after Star Wars (1977) and Jaws (1975). Its sequel, Grease 2, did not exactly set the world on fire in 1982.

When I was younger (around 8-10) , I never understood this scene. In fact, when she says ‘I skipped a period’ and Kenickie says ‘I heard you got knocked up’ I thought she had skipped a class at school and got beat up.

Ive watched this movie so many times and this scene always gets to me. If she was pregnant, Kenickie was definetly the father. But she doesn't want to tie him down nor make him feel obligated to be with her. It also doesnt help that they had a fight/broke up in the diner scene. He inadvertantly hurts her by telling her he takes care of his 'mistakes'. That implies an obligation to be with her only because of the kid. Kenickie is also implied to have been a virgin so imagine how he feels when the first girl he's been with tells him that the kid isnt his. The 'thanks a lot kid' sounds like he's relieved but you can see that he's hurt and being sarcastic. So much damage done in only a couple of seconds.

I saw a comment about how Kenickie was actually the father and Rizzo was just lying that it was another dude to keep them both safe and I think it actually can be possible. In There are worse things I could do, Rizzo is seen watching Kenickie from afar and she sings a line, “but to cry in front of you, that is the worse thing I could do.” I saw a website that said that the line meant that rizzo is saying that her crying to the father is the worse thing that she could ever do, because she feels guilty by crying, making him stay and ruining his life. Also after she sings that part she looks back to Kenickie driving away, probably because she doesn’t want him to worry about the kid and his freedom. Im not one to make theories, but I thought it was kinda interesting.

I was surprised she put so much stock into it but I guess everybody’s different. Most high school girls don’t have regular periods especially when they first start. It’s pretty Young to have regular periods. So it’s normal to skip while the body is adjusting. But I guess if she’s older and she’s never satisfied. Before it would be concerning. I loved the Bathroom Scene especially the girls smoking cigarettes, that was so forbidden in the 1950's with Teenage Girls. Can you imagine how cool it was to be an Extra in this Movie and proudly show your kids that you were in some small way part of Cinematic History.

Back in the 50's and 60's it was an urban legend that aspirin mixed into Coke would drug you, so she knew what he was trying to do.

Her song "there's worse things I could do" is REALLY EMOTIONAL. Its the last that really explains Rizzo's emotions "but to cry in front of you is the worst thing I could do".......She wont ask for help or advise but at least Kenickle, father or not/spite hurt, would not abandon her.

The line about Vince Fontaine almost putting Aspirin in Marty's Coke at The Dance was very dangerous. Aspirin's are made from Acid as was Coke. Something bad could have happened to her. If anything it was an early version of The Date Rape Drug. Also keep in mind that what Vince Fontaine did was similar to what the Late Bob Horn did in Philadelphia who was the "Original" Host of Bob Horn's Bandstand before it became "American Bandstand".
It took my years to realize what she meant. It wasn't until I was watching with captions that I was like "Oh."

This movie is a Classic. Don't you notice that while Guys go into the Toilet to release their Body Waste & Fluids, Girls go in there and spend more time in there. IE Doing their Hair, Makeup, Gossip, Stand In Line, Exchange Tel Numbers. I remember a Male Friend of mine asking "Why do you guys spend so much time in the Toilet!" I just laughed when he asked.

The best thing about this Storyline is that she discovered "What Goes Around Comes Around". She was mean to Sandy and remember how Leo The Scorpion said "I'll Give You 25 Cents For The Whole Car, Including Your Chick!" The Car is cheap and so is she. Now she knows how it feels when people talk smack about her. Remember how she gave Patty Simcox a hard time and then Patty comes out with her Friends and she says "That's The One I Was Telling You About".

Alright...a few things need to be cleared up. She isn't cheap--Kenickie was actually her first lover. Teasing Sandy about her "Sandra Dee" persona wasn't nice, but the other girls joined in so if Rizzo is to take heat for that, her friends are just as culpable (plus, to be fair, even Sandy thought of herself as a "Sandra Dee" and decided to make a big change. The song may have lasted for only a minute, but she literally thinks/sings: 'Say goodbye to Sandra Dee')
When it comes to Leo, he was just trying to get Kenickie's goat by saying that. He was from a rival gang/posse/crew--they tend to insult each other and do far worse. Earlier in the movie, Kenickie asked if they 'wanted to rumble' and even pulled out a knife. As for Patty...I think she called Patty 'the bad seed" of their high school, ripped the paper she gave her and nudged her off the bench because she finds her to be fake. There are, after all, girls like that--seemingly perky and friendly but turn around and talk crap about you, which is exactly what Patty did. After all, she didn't know that Betty did any of those things, and I doubt it occurred to her that she purposefully pushed her off the bench. Believe me, people like Patty are poisonous in their own way--she didn't know anything about the situation and she was feeding a rumor, letting it grow bigger and bigger--blatantly, no less. Like the song "The Backstabbers."
Throughout the movie, it shows that, if anything, Rizzo is a realist/cynic that has her own defense mechanism, hence the last line of her song "There are worst things I could do."
When Rizzo sings "I could flirt with all the guys.." and then ends with "then refuse to see it through", I always thought she was referring to Patty and girls like her.
