Very, very helpful! ! Thank you so much. I was successful with several levered handle locks, and now am having trouble with a Schlage deadbolt. After repinning, the key will not release. I have tried resetting all the top pins (multiple times), and also tried with a different key, without success. The key simply will not release after I replace the pins in the deadbolt cylinder. Any thoughts on what I am doing wrong?

You might have put the cylinder in from the wrong side. Turn it around and try again.

The screw on cap is too loose.Tighten it up.

Can you leave the body on the door, and just use the tool to release only the handle containing the core, rekey it, and put the handle back on?

As someone who has struggled with this I would like to say that Schlage door knobs are the worst. I though I could rekey a Schlage door with my existing Schlage key but no. They want you to use the key the rekeying kit came with. So dumb

I don't have a key that works to turn it 90 degrees so the spring releases the handle, how else can I do that?
