I remember fishing in the Cooper Landing area of Alaska on the sockeye salmon run back in July - 2003. Though at that time I almost exclusively fly fished, I got a Zebco Underspin ultralight rig just for the fun of it. While others in Alaska were fishing this salmon run with heavy, saltwater-type, open-faced spin casting rigs utilizing very heavy lures, I fished some diminutive salmon egg imitations with the Zebco ultralight underspin. These were cast upstream and just maybe 10 - 15 feet offshore towards the shallow, rocky, near-bank portions of the big Cooper Landing river. As the egg imitations (with little lead weights to get them down to the bottom) were making their way downstream towards me, I would occasionally see the ultralight line hesitate a touch (note that the plentiful salmon were in bout 8 - 12 inches deep of water and their backs would sometimes be clear out of the water). Then I gently set the hook. On more than one occasion I got into an 8 - 10 pound sockeye. But I wouldn't pull hard with the Zebco ultralight rig. So as to not let the sockeye know for certain that I'd hooked it, I'd just keep moving bit downstream of the hooked fish and gently, slowly reel in to get it into progressively shallower water until, essentially, the fish, seemingly quite surprised, found itself in 1 or 2 inches of water and no longer capable of swimming. Then I just scooped the fish up, much to the amazement of myself and perhaps even more so to the fellow anglers using all manner of open-face spin gear and heavy treble-hook spoons and such to absolutely no avail. Go Zebco ultralight!

Thanks for sharing your results with both of those reels, it was very informative and I also had the same problem with mine from Bass Pro Shop, is it coincidence maybe? I've missed your video's so I hope you and Bob will be back with more in the near future.

Makes panfising fun which is what it is suppose to be about. I have (2) Zebco micro underspins and love them. Enjoyed your review.

I have the 44 zebco. Works amazing. Catch bass and nice catfish on it. With no problem. Its been sitting back for a while it was my great uncles. Just put a little 3 and 1 in it and it works perfectly. I even put my main reel to the side.

I have the new Zebco 33 gold micro. Great panfish reels. Best trigger spin I've ever used.

I have some that are a couple of couple of decades old . They're good reels for what they are.
I can advise to clean the grease out
while it's new and easy to take apart
and put good quality grease in the
greasy spots and good oil in the oily
spots. I imagine the factory scrimps on whatever gritty grease they use.
Something that stays half full of water during use needs adequate quality grease for longevity

ok I almost soley use trigger spin reals for years now.
all your problems with the bass pro i have had with the zebco micros... the pin pickup mechanism's get junked up.. ALL of 4 of trigger spins needed theirs pin services (zebco gold micro 33 , zebco micro trigger spin 33, mr crappie micro triggerspin, and mr crappie micro spin (or whatever its called)....
you probably got some debris in the bass pro one's mechanism..
you are correct in using 6lb, the zebco pins are tiny and tear up 4lb and smaller.. my diawa 40xd trigger spin has a larger (single) pin with bearing, and I put 4lb on it since it doesnt eat up the line as much. Line does not last on any trigger spin I have used, and these spools are soo tiny that they line memory gets really really bad.. so I only spool up my trigger spins the night before I use them, and I done put alot on them.

The reel not picking up loose line is because all spincasters have pin pickups and when super loose they can’t reach it.
The sticking and stopping is because you start with a loose line on your reel then pack tight line over it when you catch a fish OR just have a heavier lure and like a bait aster the tight line gets into the spool.

That makes a lot of sense, and I've heard about that before - something about the zebco has more pins, or better pins so it picks up better when slack is what people were saying - the reeling down slack thing though - thats a noob mistake, and it only happened with one of his reels. I'm not saying this isn't the case, but why and how? I've heard some of these micro spincasts don't really like certain line too and they'll do that particularly with too heavy of a line.

I've tried quite a few of these style reels for bream fishing, Diawa, Pflueger, Zebco & even Shakespeare, they all have the tendency to do this.

I've had problems with the Zebco gears stripping. It's an orange and gray colored Zebco CRFTS-GWK7. no over numbers.. Stamped made in China. That part is sad if this is a real Zebco.

I shocked out on internet. The moved the manufacturing from USA to China due to lower wages. There goes Zebco. Sad

@@williamsaum3465 Yep they did that back in the 90's. I remember when they did that the quality slowly but surely went downhill. I haven't bought any since then. I did hit ebay and bought some older models that were made in the USA
